Ships sail from ports of every distant land,
to enter the deep waters of the sea or ocean;
and my ship will battle another storm before dawn,
when the waves batter on the front deck...
I'm a modern day navigator,
and unlikely Vasco da Gama or Columbus,
who used an ancient compass
to direct their long course;
I use advanced technology, having more
time to admire a starry sky so celestial...
relying on their accuracy so incredible
and steering skills for a safe arrival.
And more beautiful serenity seems to the adventurous eye
when sunrise sets this bold one aglow,
and with a chiseled face, so attentive and ruddy, I deem
something real and inevitable by looking above;
will nebulous skies and misty horizons...
prevent me from discovering new places?
And will my diminishing courage outlast any tempest,
which approaches with loud gusts to disrupt my rest?
I grapple the certainty of a possible surprise,
but I despair not...until with scrutinizing eyes,
I spot the gleaming light-house coming into view;
and I'll be staring in the nocturnal navy blue:
while my ship is anchored at the nearest port,
to make all hear the elation of my worth...
November
Cool winds turn cold as the winds stir from the north
The sun, the life giving star, heats the tropics so far to the south
Its warmth a distant memory to the lands that it deserted
Long forgotten greens of summer turn into the color of a raging fire
The fire dies and leafs that lived in the summer sun die and fall to the ground
The white silky clouds turn black and heavy carrying moisture from the open waters
The mighty lakes of the north turn violent under the fading yellow sun
Fighting the winds and the certainty of the fingers of the north freezing them
Rain turns to ice storm and them into the snow that children love
Mother Nature makes her changes as the speed of life slows
Baby animals, now grown, leave their family to explore their new world
Some settle down for a sleep that will protect for the three months of bitter cold
Others travel to the lands of their ancestors where the climate never changes
No one tells them to make such a journey
It is just the cycle of life that protects them and their young
But all the ice, the snow and the suffering will end
For it is November and November is a month of change
The changes will last until the spring when live starts anew
The ice and snow will melt and food will be plentiful
Green with once again color the trees, grass and shrubs
The animals who were babies in the fall return with babies of their own
The lakes thaw and calm in the spring’s gentle breezes
Life will return to normal at least until the winds of November return
But, at least for now, that is a world away in another time
And it is no longer remembered
No matter how far we travel into the universe
No matter how many worlds we conquer
Or marvelous civilizations we encounter
No matter how many creatures we dissect
How far into the past we probe
No matter how many words we write, or read
There is always one step further; one more word to pen
One more iota of information to uncover.
Our storehouses of knowledge
Do not help us survive
Though we hope they will;
For we must believe we will continue.
It all depends upon
One more grain of knowledge
A puzzle with the answer we all desire
Then will we be forever.
Not as a race entire,
Not through works of art
Not from words of wisdom,
Conquest or slaughter,
But the egoistic Self,
The person, the arrogant mind;
What matters if there is or is not a god?
The query is merely: Will I be forever.
That there is life beyond life
Is the dream, the hope,
Of blind misbegotten certainty.
Are we not like a drop of water
That quenched a thirst for knowledge
Then evaporated, but still exists?
Please do not suppose "We are not."
When no more doubt remains
Then shall humanity crumple
And fade from the universe
No longer possessed
Of the undivine quest
No longer needing to persist in this land
When another, we insist, so surely waits.
For now, the starships search outer realms
The pen transcribes the mind
While seldom do we stop to reflect how
If ever the destination is at hand
We will have lost all purpose.

An earnest poem from my youth, tossed in a file box and stored away lo these many decades.
My hopes
Whisper joy
Through my soul
Inspiring me to believe
In the wonder of anticipation
The possibilities, the aspirations
Wishes and dreams, second chances
My prayers
Echo softly inside
Where they’re secreted
Abiding their time, their light
Falling gentle on the petitions
Litanies reminding me to believe
The eternal peace stirs up revelations
My believing
Reflects all the mercy, grace
In hues of glorious rays, suggestions
Brought to life on the heart who awakens
Intimacy, inspiration, imagination – serenity
Fulfillment and satisfaction that only breathe
Faith more alive, more sure, than any certainty
My silence
Is met with answering
Songs and psalms, creativities
Encouraging and uplifting, soothing
Each fear, each liquid tone of desperation
Moaning deeply of mystery, profound secrets
Naked clandestine images erased by the quiet, the hush
My light
Rains through darkness
Dread, despair, depression
Pouring out love that is stirred
To life by the fires burning passions
His image emblazoned on my spirit, my faith
Reminding me that His love is a marvelous life in itself
HIS LOVE
Is the reason
I know hope, peace, freedom
From the darkness, the sin, the desolation
The cruelty of doubts so loud they stifle the joy
The dancing elation that charms my spirit with the promise
Love so warm, so wise, so wonderful – it can only abide in the heart
Where love like this is the part that assures me…
His LOVE is forever, eternal, all encompassing
Love like this is beyond description…
Love like HIS makes me richer than the wealthiest
Love like this is more than endless, more than intimate
Love like HIS is the only love I’ll ever need…
It is more than LOVE – it is the LIGHT of GOD’S SON!
It is PURE, PERFECT, PENETRATING – LOVE!

Within these white walls of wellness and weakness
lie labyrinths of life changing lies
Needless needles nip like nuisance nettles
Scary scans scrupulously scrutinize
Doctors dressed in drab garbs declare dreadful news
making moody me feel all the more miserable
Circumstances circle with cyst-like certainty
Persistent problems promote psychological pandemonium
Yearnings of yesterday yell and yammer for youthfulness
Lost in listlessness, I lament in laboured longing

Against entertaining doubts of deceiving falsity…
Now, we learn from Him, serving Him well through faith’s authority.

Living in timeplace where you are
Degree of the certainty
Isn’t that far
Now you perceive world around you
Out of Plato’s cave
Don’t let these bound you
Stop being slave
But neither become master
However you may object
This isn’t a huge disaster
People have right to reject
Integrable systems suggest
Health is about digest
Electrical engineering
Resistance to change protest
What is this circuit that makes
Life of the people so bound
Sense and point awakes
Each day is another round
Each person has own feelings
They can’t feel the emptiness
These are orange peelings

To keep us satisfied in His grace with delight
With faith that clings to His Word along prayer-plight.

By His admonition protecting us from sorrows
To teach us become wise in overcoming foes
With faith that glows through His blessing-flows.

By His compassion healing our guilt’s ailment-soreness
To forgive us of our confessed sinfulness and selfishness
With faith that cleaves to His graciousness.

By His protection securing us under His reign
To make us hide in His care midst hopelessness-strain
With faith that encloses us around His provisions’ gain.

For our testimony, by faith, to shine bright
According to His Word that serves as our light
To transform us with His empowering might.
God gives us a lamp toward obeying His authority
For our lives, by faith, to bear fruits of obedient sincerity
According to His instruction that declares His certainty
To strengthen us against stubbornness that causes anxiety.
God gives us a lamp toward seeking first His righteousness
For our soul, by faith, to esteem always His holiness
According to His sanctification that purifies our filthiness
To cleanse us along His forgiveness.
God gives us a lamp toward staying in His compassion
For our heart, by faith, to remain in His revival’s persuasion
According to His love that grips us against hateful perversion
To keep us joyful and peaceful along heavenly vision.
God gives us a lamp toward following His leadership
For our submission, by faith, to His lordship
According to His command that upholds our stewardship
To bless us in our worship along His divine partnership.
God gives us a lamp toward character-building
For our attitudes, by faith, to glow in His guiding
According to His truth that rears us through His molding
To guard in His service along His upholding.
God gives us a lamp toward marching to victory
For our conviction, by faith, to win over sin-misery
According to His wisdom that governs us for His glory
To secure us continually as we proclaim His Gospel story.
