Gregory
You made yesterdays news, invoking fears
You were found on the streets
Discarded and left to die alone
Thrown away like a piece of garbage with little thought
An inconvenience, as you struggled for your life
So many questions and no answers….
Your thoughts were dark and twisted and not appropriate
You did not fit the mould
Opportunities wasted as you oared against the current
The river washed you out and you choked to breathe
Your thoughts were numbed by substances
Chemicals that took away your sanity
Robbed you of your family and your home
Left your mother with a broken heart and tortured soul, struggling with forgiveness
Your father fought his own demons just long enough to remember your life
And then fall back into the abyss and darkness and forgottenness
Your friends cried as they thought of you.
Their scarred faces and souls with their big crosses around their necks
Their tattooed and tattered young zombie bodies
With their vacant eyes that bore too much pain to contain
Thin and remorseful souls
with the tears that fell down their cheeks like rain
They loved you, you were a good friend!
It was said you would give the shirt off your back for a friend
Your first love wondered how she could have helped?
Your grandfather has lived too long to see this day
One more funeral in his 88 years
A reminder of his son of 17 that was also discarded.
Your brother tried to honour and play his guitar that you gave him
Tears were shed
Beautiful memories shared and kind words spoken
A life too young
Fell beneath the caverns of a broken world
Aunts write poetry to make sense of it all, desperately writing to keep your memory alive
Unspoken grief all around with nowhere to go
One more forgotten victim of an epidemic
Bi-polar they said
Addicted they said
As they sat in their offices high above the streets away from it all
Making policies to keep you safe.
Safe injection sights to shoot poison to your veins
And kitchens with large pots of soup to sustain you until your imminent death
The great unravelling of a generation
You were loved by many
You were a beautiful soul, a good friend, son, brother, cousin
A beautiful child with big brown eyes and so much promise
Gregory always remembered
Rest peacefully sweet soul…

Sappho Translations VIII

Sappho Translations VIII by Michael R. Burch

Sappho, fragment 68
translation by Michael R. Burch

That was then, this is now!
In those days my maidenhead was in full bloom,
then you …

Sappho, fragment 135
translation by Michael R. Burch

Golden Persuasion, Aphrodite's daughter,
how you deceive mortals!

Sappho, fragment 88
translation by Michael R. Burch

Why, Procne,
delicate swallow, daughter of Pandion,
why do you weary me with tales of woe?

Sappho, fragment 15
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Cypris, may she find you a harsh mistress,
Doricha, the sl-t!
Put an end to her bragging,
nor let her boast that she fooled him twice,
my brother's embezzler!

Sappho, fragment 7
translation by Michael R. Burch

Doricha commands arrogantly,
like young men.

Sappho, fragment 148
translation by Michael R. Burch

A vagabond friendship,
a public blessing …
repent Rhodopis!

Sappho, fragment 138
translation by Michael R. Burch

The beautiful courtesan Rhodopis,
lies here entombed, more fair
than when she walked with white lilies
plaited in her dark hair,
but now she's as withered as they:
whose dust is more gray?

Sappho, fragment 5
translation by Michael R. Burch

Revered Nereids, divine sea-daughters, please grant that my brother may return unharmed,
his heart's desires all fulfilled,
and may he show his sister more honor than in his indifferent past …
But you, O august Kypris, please keep him from unbearable dooms!

Sappho, fragment 95
translation by Michael R. Burch

Lord Hermes, you guide spirits to their final destination.
Now guide me, for I am despondent and wish only to die,
to see the lotus-lined shores of Acheron.

Sappho, fragment 150
translation by Michael R. Burch

1.
Cleis, daughter, don't cry!
Mourning is unbecoming a poet's household.

2.
For those who serve the Muses,
mourning is unbecoming.

Sappho, fragment 56
translation by Michael R. Burch

Erinna, will any woman
born under the sun
ever match your art?

Sappho, fragment 135
translation by Michael R. Burch

Erinna, why does darkwinged Procne, King Pandion's daughter, beckon?

Dope Rhymes To Share With Society By Big Mwv

done near got clipped yet even tripped

reaching my destiny backed by George Foreman

Word on the streets is we got to stay clean burning the rubbers in fresh magazines
this is a brand new invention so get me at no blessed convention
should i put salt in your teeth or maybe added sugar
is it any wonder you got too much time on our hands

let the reader understand you can't keep sticking it to the man
we built this city on rap control trying to add up what's left in Death Row
clouds of funk between the satin sheets one has sprung a leak
trying to make dope rhyme to share with society
the raps are stuck in side of me living for my legacy
blast from the past now its the hour of decision

peeps in the street trying to spring a new leaf with the hip hop scene
people can break you or take you fake you or make you
got to bust a sweet beat just to make it on through
see we are tired you see in our blinded society
folks with a spoon up their nose with a rubber hose
don't you know we all want to be a wanna be gangster
with stereo or caper
but ya'll can be what you want to be even work on that degree

blasting out tracks as sugar is sweet so sweet like honey nothing a bit phony
got your body kit Camary living in the hood you see
the peddles in the front while to true pussy's in the back
working too hard can give any man a heart attack
bullets flying but I'm still surviving paid in full and I'm not lying
fresh beats to end for never again will i have to pan handle in the alley
Cause soon & very soon I'll be going back to Cali

Premium Member Packing and Unpacking Pain

Pack his suitcase,
say goodbye.
Tears don't even
reach my eye

"Come back safely.
Do take care."
Then he's gone, and
I'm left there

Give a smile, and
don't complain
What's the use?
Just bear the pain

Hours of empty,
voiceless time!
Countless trips
should be a crime.

Time to clean, for
he'll be back.
All I've left
is paltry snack.

Home a while then
off again
It's his job
to save from sin

Pack his suitcase,
then unpack.
There's no way
to get time back

Special times just
gone amiss.
Rushed goodbyes,
and hurried kiss

Weeks and months,
yes, years go by.
Getting old,
and soon I'll die

When I'm gone
I'll be at rest
No pack/unpack
No empty nest

Let another
stay behind;
someone else
he's sure to find,

but I know that
she'll complain.
He won't go
to keep her sane

I hope one day
he'll come to see
what he did
was cruel to me

Lonely days that
merged to nights.
Sighs and tears...
It was not right

Too late he'll know
he broke my heart.
Those trips he took?
That time apart?

Broke me, killed me,
stole my life
"Work is second!
First is wife!"

The simple truth
he could not see.
Now there's nothing
Left of me.

Eileen Manassian

In way of explanation: both my husband and I work for our church organisation, and he has a leadership role which necessitates travel to the countries in the Middle East and North Africa. He has to travel. It's part of his job description, but it doesn't make it any easier for me, especially since I work full time and am a caregiver to my 88 year old dad who had alzhiemers. If we want to get retirement benefits, we need to keep working for the organisation, so... there is that. I'm just tired of it.. that's all. I've been alone so many times...depression sets in before he travels and while he's away. It's been this way for years. I read him the poem today :(. He knows I'm posting it. To be fair... he's cut down on some of it because of my mental health. There is a spouse allowance for travel, but the timing doesn't coincide with my teaching scedule and I can't leave dad anyway. This is just a angst filled reflection on how it feels to be lonely.

Premium Member Spring Bloom Tulips of Perfect Love

Many years have since passed

Upon the years of gold

Bond between us we did hold

Around my neck I clasp a strand

carved, yellowed with age spring bloom tulips

               Perfect love

  Grandma used to wear

stood out with her dark brown hair

    like no other

I try to hide tears of times we shared

Each bead is unique, varying in size

       Not much,

            yet

I get to hold what brings me peace

I don't know if you can see her in me

I feel her warmth of tender love

She's in my heart

               Perfect love

The reason that I seem so far away

Somewhere laced in time I disappear

In the warmth of her tender love

"MARRY ME" -- The Sweethearts Valentine Candy

I write with passion in every line,
A poet bleeding words, in black and white

Elegant, like a fine glass of red wine.
I SIT!
I LAY!
I LOOK INTO YOUR KNIGHTLY EYES!
Pearly paper I unwrap the magazine
I switch the lights to read
Gently I kiss you on the cheek
Tonight my diary reads, LOVE

I walked away, bathing for the night
A beautiful purple Amethyst diary on the nightstand.

The unthinkable; -O' you opened to read

Page 1 - 50 dramatic, and set
You skipped on over to the day we met.

Page 88
Once I was lost in the twilight
Then I magically found a box of invisible light
There you stood like a diamond ring;
Suddenly my heart began to sing
Your love was more than the beauty that spawned from your soul
Fair and cold like winter blues
January stars following my every move
I treasure every moment we spend like my mother’s cameo
I lifted our memories and time framed them like yesterday
A vintage picture, no one can erase or take away.

Page 55
You skipped back and, opened a page that spoke about my broken dreams.

Page 66
Smeared cobalt words in every line (CRYING)

Page 77
Sapphire Glamour of fancy words
Phrased that I finally found my amulet
He will protect me with unspeakable powers.

Page 99
Moonstone & Opal = 4ever
My white shiny Pearl, listen to me whatever

SLAMMING the diary shut!!
A piece of paper fell, and you bent over to pick it up.

Your heart skips ---- (when you read your name)

Dear Diary!
The roads ahead are full of bumps and screams.
I will continue to open every door until I find my dreams.
My sweetest love, soon will come,
May he never dares to change me like the seasons.
My sweetest love, soon will come
Together well enjoy life and respect its reasons.
A sexy man!!
Will come and intrude the glossary of my life!
My sweetest love, soon will come
One day to make me his wife
Today I will write and smile about love

Page 111
I have no shame in asking the man who stops
By to sneak a peek and read my diary once a week
Will You MARRY ME????

The Man In the Iran Mosque

Afghan Afghan wearing an Afghan

      leg lifted high

            a pissious 88 salute

          and drenching thirsty

                                    cactus masses

                             with needle arms

                        these masses

                                    drooling acids

                                         crass bands

                                 of bandit masses

and the temperature over 140 degrees

            erect hands

              linger longingly

pining for more

                opiated oblivion

                opinions like onions

          like reefer smoke weaving

      inhalation-pant-breathing

                 half assed flags

                    and children try on roles

                                        like play clothes

                        orphan, mourner,

                                    time traveller

            instant age

               in the era of youth

        exfoliators for sporeous pores

-swapping wives instead of recipes now

-foot taps not door raps in bathrooms now

-teachers teach sex ed with homework now

            a world strong enough

     to school us weekly

            as we are fed weakly

we murder it

   by not living Taliban-tech levels

but being regurgitated

Romans we

       eating to excess

       drinking more

       sexing children

       losing mores

we will circle coriolis

    bring enemies in among us

         and embrace

    this pieceful islam of Religion

 and die

            one by one

                as a people

            who refused a Good God

will never take a violent god

           and obssessed

     with libertine dash liberty

will die

       one

         by

        one

stoned, jaw dropping walldrops,

            like head drops

                in soccer stadiums

smile

            this is your life
