Premium MemberCritterature: A Prickly Situation

Old joke: How do porkypines mate? Very carefully.

The porcupine's a modest
And mostly solitary beast,
Akin to capybara and to beaver,
Though in size he is the least.
He rarely gets invited
To a bar-b-que or feast,
But long as he's not on the menu,
He doesn't mind it in the least.

He'll never write his memoirs,
Although of stories there's no lack,
But penmanship's beyond him,
He just doesn't have the knack.
And though he ports around a vast array
Of sharpened quills upon his back,
There's not one that's fit for writing
In all the clicking, clacking pack.

When "she" sends forth her pheromones,
And "he" rises to the bait,
Safe sex is uppermost in mind
As he advances to the plate.
His approach must be well-timed, precise,
Lest she shish-kabob her mate.
If it's not done right the first time…
There won't be a second date.

Ye old West signposts, green with needle-spurs:
Santa Rita prickly pear, pancake prickly,
plenteous buckets and sunset pink occurs.

It’s mountain time to sip some wine dearly
as the cacti shadows wax in the desert
and the elephant head’s fading quickly.

Breakfast in the stucco casa like dessert -
a dutch baby with segmented mandarin fruit.
Golden Retriever’s friendly and the striped cat’s curt.

Kabob sidles through crack - cat’s bedroom route,
lies on the visitor’s quilt - comfortably cute.

Stick Up

I don't wish to sound an alarm
But ladies are losing their charm
My thingamabob
Appears shish kabob
And they aim to skewer the farm!

Baking, broiling, blindingly bright, blistering sun,

Super scorching, sweltering, sizzling sand

The kabob that is my body skewered, searing

Deceptively blue skies devoid of any deliverance

No cavalry of clouds coming to convey compassion

Rising balloon-like bubbles of hot air

Causing distant objects to ripple and dance

Shimmering in the atmospheric boil

Falling to my knees, I detect in the distance

Glimmering patches of blue and green—Mirage!

A maniacal mime of molten mockery

Deriding my dreadful demise

Maybe I Need a Sweet Change

maybe i need a sweet change
driving down an avenue
looking at all new things
digging cherry flavored scenes
chicken kabob feeling
taco salad nature
wish for peppercorn ranch waterfall
i will even take a drizzle

maybe i need a sweet change
driving on an island
looking at candy houses
wanting their twin sisters
clam chowder serenity
grilled scallops soothing my mind
wish for sweet buttered cornbread
how i long the sound of a simple sizzle

To Winkin’
Blinkin’
and of course nod.
In terms of
symmetry
prose and
shish kabob.
The tricks and twirls
and polar light;
the flip and flare and star
of kiddy sleepless night
can rip and roar
and rankle up
a juicy fight,
in the twinkle of an eye.
Forget wit and woe
and places to and fro and
things obscure in fuzzy
wuzzy lights to
swing and sway in
wrinkled tights
or sit boldly still
daring you to
a contest of will
hanging in a drop
of drool falling from
yon wounded whipporwill.
Will he will or will he won’t, or
do the thing we don’t?
I see again in terms
of symmetry you see.
But mostly for the rhyme
I hear inside the room
just made for me
in terms of speech and
in the song of my
sweet cooing babe.

I See Faces

I see faces,

sober races-

covalent bases,

upon crazes,

upon laces.

I say hi that I know her,

get by on some glow worms,

grow guys in the sojourns-
holy as the phone burns...

High tech would have a job,

but the buying neck would have a slob,

so why get robbed at the kabob
when the higher rent is only as true as a mob?

'Cause there is no escaping the jobs-
slamming of doors or weighing of the stops,

you've gotta be a bob,

make sure you've got friends to cast off.

drat de drought,
shis-kabob...

Skewers

Skewers

Explaining the irony of
the wonderful choice of your gift
of Skewers

For our wedding
has escaped description
for far too long.

And they are quite long.
The skewers, silver,
balanced, stainless, and
uncommonly sharp.

The handles satisfy,
even before they
plunge into unsuspecting
vegetables or seasoned, marinated
limp deserving flesh.

We love the skewers
and employ them far too
rarely. There are so
many meats deserving to be
Stuck!

Of course, a divorce lawyer getting married,
the second time, is
another kabob of
delicious irony, to the gift of
Skewers.

And forget not the
spicy rub! A rub!
Something applied with care,
with conditions and expectations
Skewers and a Rub!

There is, of course, no
correlation, I know.
Though I skewer people for
a living and rub many the
wrong way,

Skewers and a rub for
a divorce lawyer,
at his second wedding
Is just too perfect a gift.
Thank you; for the
skewers and the rub.
