At the risk of coming off turgid
I offer this tale esoteric
Hoping it’s not found insipid
Nor causes one to be apoplectic
But rather received with alacrity
Without the need for paroxysm
My word there’ll be no chicanery
And avoidance of anachronism
Far from being sesquipedalian
Nor need for any razzmatazz
The tale of the slubberdegullion
Who thought himself full with pizzazz
Though being so supercilious
His affect stirred only dudgeon
Any good was so very fugacious
From this untoward tatterdemalion
Yet still he persisted a mumpsimus
If you will, and worse a panjandrum
So aggravating and rumbustious
Redeeming qualities not a modicum
An unquestioned snollygoster
Given to being quite vagary
An ill-reputed hugger-mugger
And a voice of such cacophony
But I see that you are insouciant
And consider my warning malarkey
Since you wish to be recalcitrant
My apologies for being persnickety
I end my tale of the rapscallion
Without further ado or rigmarole
Avoiding becoming ultracrepidarian
I have met my supererogatory parole

THE NOW CONTINUUM
Now might linger forever, or be a mere instant
Yet an end to the present may look ever distant
It fights for survival about which it is so insistent
But it may struggle to be defined as a continuum
As from the past, the future is anxious to come
So try relishing this moment, however transient
When or if, the world in our mind ceases to spin
All sorts of adjustments to time must then begin
And a reset requires more than a password or pin
Maybe now is an old concept that has had its day
It can be redefined with some disregard, anyway
But do not shrug it off, as might some insouciant
The idea of now does maintain its certain appeal
But to academics, it still must prove that it’s real
It needs clear thought, but also how it might feel
There will always be time to ask the question why
When the past has passed, and the future is nigh
Acceptance of a theory could be quite sufficient

In the laundry room are bags
And boxes from the past,
Filled with photos, books and papers
That I have amassed.
Today I went through one such bag
And in a tied-up stack
Were the wedding cards we’d gotten
Over forty-nine years back.
I read each one and there were names
I did not recognize,
Plus notes from students in my class,
Which came as a surprise.
Another cool discovery -
A work I’d been assigned,
Describing speakers in a course
And how they’d tapped my mind.
The hand-writ ten page paper,
Which I shared and read aloud,
Was insightful and insouciant
And made me feel quite proud.
It’s nice to get a little glimpse
(And more so as you age)
Of a younger you and how you were
At such a different stage.

How could I not love the level to which you live life perfect, so insouciant
You would walk beside me in heavy rain, with no umbrella; to contentment
We are both happy with our makeup, souls binded in water so succulent
A combination of an unlikely myriad, to which we equally compliment
Each other in a way that no one else would find the same contentment
You are simply a convivial representative for my life's failed acknowledgment
I hope you find this to be your own; a beautiful milestone of combined sentiment

A dark blue midnight awning has its portrait,
etched by a a starlit silver lustrous galaxy,
silhouette of black lace frilled clouds,
in somber quietude adrift beneath a vibrant pearl,
amber moon whose gleaming radiance bemused awhile,
at the stark underbelly of flickering candles,
that the urban nocturne spellbound revel in perchance,
sleep pattern held captive by ethereal bliss,
angelic dreams wrapped in opal tincture,
what optic relishes await at early first light,
a colourfast dawn unveils it’s bronze bespoke banner,
heaven bound yellow flare insouciant whim,
red orange burst sky a stirring presage,
for wingspan flight of stone gray plume creature,
natural world usher whose gold throat cadence,
rouses wonderment among the persimmon trees,
tapping into human yearning for awestruck omen,
Kashmir bright velvet hue azimuth a scant gem,
yet sapphire orb twinkles close or distant lure
might embolden dull minds with ardent spark

Creature from the black lagoon or God juxtaposing
something wild just in time for me to cross its path
peacock’s crossed the line
tail feathers insouciant
on my side of road
replaced the turkey vultures
that previously unnerved

i don't care if the stars shine tonight
even less the current phase of the moon
and this restaurant could be anywhere
i would not care
you should have understood all of this
because i never looked at the menu
when i ordered
and as the waitress disappeared
into the din of a dining humanity
i was hoping in my depths
what would you notice most
i never took my eyes
away from you
while the universe is insouciant of centers
i found mine
each time creme brulee comes into my life
i live in this moment

Can it possibly be
She never took me seriously
Insouciant to the last
The farewell lightning-fast
A grenade takes ten counts to unload
A stick of dynamite awaits its wick to explode
But faster than a hummingbird beats its wings
A whirlwind tore through my heartstrings
Gone in a trice, the curtains barely fluttered
Out the window, nor hint nor reflection
On the street, neither indication, nor allusion ~
How to end an affair that escapes its conclusion

Cider, you,me…in front of an insouciant fire.
Cinnamon cider swirling in cloissone cups.
Life, a perfect sunset in your amber-chocolate eyes, I dearly sought.
Later, to our bed, to peacefully retire.
The calico cat’s tail wound about our feet.
The tartan blanket embellished us in beauty.
Creating wedding plans, a pleasurable duty.
In graciousness, that we so blessed did meet.!

it happened every fourth
sitting in the crowd
listening to their escaping excitement
a sky ablaze in pyrotechnics
some Pollock at last set free
from its boring existence
looking at you lost in it all
a face i know so well
finding myself amidst this mayhem
unable to deflect my gaze
from you
as the cacophony holds
delights fill your face
i am waiting patiently
for that moment
when you look down at me
that Duchenne smile emerges
life has a no deeper meaning
then when the depth and breadth
of your heart says in a smile
i am in love with you
we are destiny dancing across galaxies
a love only a universe could hold
a quantum entanglement insouciant
of space and time, infinity dissipated in ecstasy
that is the part i miss so much
that adorable quizzical look
explain that to me again

I constantly search for it
but it's enigmatical elusive,
hidden in a Mona Lisa smile.
Should I arm myself against self inflicted pains?
Camouflage my feelings with insouciant emotions?
For all my cirrhosis equivocal endeavors,
I manage only to forge a jealous rift,
until fragile truths bring sullen tears.
For God is love, and love is truth.
Had I misused it?
Is that why I can't find it now?
Yet they say that love is beautiful.
Where does true beauty lie?
All I find is veiled secrets,
thinly disguised behind mirthful masks
frivolously worn on carefree Valentine days.
Should in dire despair give up?

Teacher
I, as a student, was an insouciant soul before meeting you,
But you, as a teacher, came into my life to perfect my hue.
Can't say that life, before meeting you, was purposeful,
But you, my teacher, made even my mistakes fruitful!
I knew from the very start that you're kind,
But I feel blessed, for a rare soul, I have find.
You made me understand the world is often illusive,
And you taught me to succeed and to find myself exclusive.
The piece of advice you gave me was, even if the world is abrasive,
With your dreams, you have to be cohesive.
At last, I can say one thing for sure,
No matter what my problem is, you always have a cure.

How blissful it is to live in the abyss.
Unaware, insouciant of the world around,
Tormented are the empaths in the desensitized world,
Who are to their earthly senses bound.
