Many used to tell me it's time to drop off
that's 'cause my initials say I am a DAG
This nickname occurred when these initials
were engraved on a gladstone bag
In days of yore
these comments made me glum
Because a dag is the poo that is found
sticking to the wool surrounding a sheep's bum
DAG can also mean a humorous man
can crack a joke to bring about a smile
That's me that's what I do now
I'm also modest. I do it all with style
If you are feeling rather blue
feeling rather sad feeling rather glum
Just be a happy Dag and not the one
that's sticking to a woolly bum
I wonder, do you miss me?
Although I wouldn't ask
The times we're not together
For me are quite the task
There's longing that's inside me
I never let it show
It rises from its slumber
The moment that you go
Your presence I desire
Your company I crave
Take me with you Bluebird
My heart you did engrave
your initials
are the letters
I sneak into my textbooks
let slip in the middle of conversations
say over and over until they sound like
different letters
write on the back of my novels
I play with in my head
bounce them around like they were tiny balls
happy, sad, angry, frustrated; bounce them everywhere
and this does not mean
I still pine for you
it does not mean
I cry at night thinking of you
and it does not mean
I am in love with you
I merely love your initials
they're magical letters
they keep me alive
I only love your initials
do not mistake my poetry
for my love
for it is so much more than that
much more than you and I
and still so pretty, so concise
like your initials

I remember carving a heart with our initials
in the trunk of this old oak tree
we used to sit under and dream
After all of the years
the bark has grown over
and our initials are no longer visible
Running my fingers over the area
I look back on those dreams
and it feels as if it were just yesterday
I often wonder about you,
are you happy, do you ever
think of us and this old tree
"They are still there" I hear as I turn
to see you smiling at me just the way I remember
"The bark has only grown
over to keep them safe,
they will be there forever"
(I guess that answers my question)
"Hi, how have you been, it's been a long time.
I've missed you"

If I stopped writing poems. where would I be
Would not be able to enjoy their company
Or read over and over and then once more;
Now all of my poems people will ignore.
God in His finest hour gave me the ability
To express my love for Him and humility
High on mountain to or beside restless sea
Writing while sitting beneath a tall oak tree.
Each of my poems will take care of me
Bring me relief by setting my soul free
My soul for attention now does starve
Their initials on a tree did start to carve.

Like a grand tree with engraving without
so to is your love scripted within my heart
Time has shown no mercy for each day
my heart reminds me of the loss
There seems no cure for love which is lost
just endless days and nights of remembrance
How can a love with such perfection and devotion
leave someone so devastated and void of feeling
A life which was once filled with happiness and
endless colors of beauty has now diminished
into a sepia canvass shadowed with remorse
A smile which came as natural as a breath
is now a labored endeavor at best
If loving you has left me to this shattered existence
then let me love no more...
She carved our initials in a heart
To last for all of time
With razor blades of pain
For all the world to see
She later X’d it out.
It wouldn't have hurt so much
Except, the heart she used
Happened to belong to me.
