Initials

Initials

I remember carving a heart with our initials
in the trunk of this old oak tree
we used to sit under and dream

After all of the years
the bark has grown over
and our initials are no longer visible

Running my fingers over the area
I look back on those dreams
and it feels as if it were just yesterday

I often wonder about you,
are you happy, do you ever
think of us and this old tree

"They are still there" I hear as I turn 
to see you smiling at me just the way I remember
"The bark has only grown 
over to keep them safe, 
they will be there forever"

(I guess that answers my question)
"Hi, how have you been, it's been a long time. 
I've missed you"

sometimes going back in memories and reliving the better times makes us smile from within.... so cool to think of how the initials would look many years later... faded or deeper, guess it depends on the original depth of them... nice poem! Enjoyed this one! :) hugs

I do believe..every now and then She'll think of you.and those initials carved in the trunk in a sweet nostalgic way...We always think of all the ones we loved before at times...and at times some people are more precious than others...A favourite..I have asoft spor for tree trunks and love...Everyone has his her own memory.

I love this, Chris! When I went to a school reunion, a guy that I knew talked to me and gave me a hug. (Not the same feelings as i'm married) but I thought how I would have died for that hug back in school...lol (I was very shy back then but you would never guess that today!)
