Infinitive Poems

Premium MemberThe noise was christened as silence listened

"No one dare
Disturb the sound of silence"
Quote taken from the Sounds of Silence by Paul Simon.

Echoes of a lingering quiet time,
When no one hears the bells that chime.
Through the abyss I feel myself falling.
My voice cant be heard, although I am calling.
Silence has deserted me so it would seem.
There are no pins dropping in my dream.
Is this the day they freed the noise?
Dulcet sounds that bring everlasting joys,
Words uttered loud and clear,
Though I implore, she will not hear.
My song is old, bordering on archaic.
Like shattered glass that forms a mosaic,
I need to suppress it and turn it all around,
Stifle the silence and bottle the sound.
The silence is definitive, no volume switch to turn.
The sound infinitive and audibly I yearn.
Into my muted dreams she often sneaks.
Its louder than words when silence speaks.
Its like gold that glistens,
When silence listens.

RODDENBERRY

RODDENBERRY

Now part of science fiction lore
In a Sixties’ take, one may find
To boldly go, is a split infinitive
Never featured in any derivative
Discovery, into the female mind
Where no man has gone before

His scripts maintain a firm focus
Or did, until he passed in ‘91
But even now, his Foundation
With creativity and imagination
Continues work that has begun
With no StarTrek hocus-pocus

So much change

Where Saffron grew
is a Nursing home now
the demolished past
haunts us again

Where lovers once strode the fields
is a motorway now
Past love, knew no bounds
With faith in each other
and infinitive love
we walk the freckled way
The Ghosts speak softly
They have been recalled today

Could Be Stronger

The heart wants to love,
 Yet, we hate.
   In the face of chaos,
It steps up to the plate.

   The heart wants to understand
 Yet, we are confused.
It keeps on pumping in spite of
 Being abused.

   The heart wants equality
 Yet, we dominate one another.
   Some are secure,
 Others tend to smother.

   The heart wants peace
 Yet, we fight.
   Some see it in black,
 Others in white.

   The heart wants to give
 Yet, we are greedy.
   Most need space,
 Others to needy.

   The heart wants to heal
 Yet, we destroy.
A war was fought over a woman,
Her name was Helen of Troy.

   The heart wants to care
 Yet, we are insensitive.
   Time keeps on ticking,
 It is infinitive.

   The heart can't take the
 Break no longer.
   If only the heart,
 Could be stronger.

When I Am Gone

When I am gone, and from this world have flown,
I would admonish you to not forget
That I have loved and cherished you, my own,
And even after death shall love you yet.

But I’ve no wish to burden you with pain—
Not for one month, one day, one second’s time—
Insisting you remember would be vain,
And causing you such grief, a selfish crime.

While memory can help one to endure,
Distressing recollection can be worse;
Remembering, in some, effects a cure--
In others it’s essentially a curse.

Thus knowing this, my love, I won’t resent
Forgetting me, so long as you’re content.

 October 2, 2019

Please note: though the second line includes what appears to be that old grammatical bugbear, a split infinitive, I could argue that the word "not" is not a modifier, but part of a compound verb "to not forget", ie. to remember; also, its position makes it not only a stressed syllable but also much more emphatic.

You Affect Me

Like sad music
Can move me to tears
A cello’s deep
Hauntingly beautiful sound
Plays my soul with its resonance

Like a majestic sunrise over the ocean
Infinitive water and sky and fire
That brings enigmatic joy to my heart
The hope in endless new beginnings
The absolute awe of nature

You affect me
You connect to that deep place in my soul
In a way that no one else ever has.

Pronoun Hoedown

Grammar Series
PRONOUN HOEDOWN

Grab your partner he or she
I'll choose you and you choose me

We'll go left if you go right
They'll keep going all through the night

In this here hoedown we use pronouns
We'll all git around with no names down

I don't know your moniker you don't know mine
We'll stay anonymous and have a good time

You've got no partner, you're on the shelf
Just test your reflex and dance with yourself

I’ll teach you how to do-si-do
Then maybe we’ll go for a yo! ho! ho!

Well dang ma britches, mighty fine
You split your infinitive an I split mine

Up on the stand they're a' pickin and grinnin
Down on the floor them's men and they's wimmin

They said they were going out to gaze at a star
But when they came back he gave a big yeee haaa!

Up in the hay loft where the lamp light flickers*
I lost ma heart an she lost her parasol

Without proper nouns we can do no harm
What's done in the barn will stay on the farm

An exercise in the use of pronouns - 32 instances

The Bare Infinitive

THE BARE INFINITIVE

Look: up above the stratosphere
Outside the earth's protective veneer
Beyond planets stars and galaxy
Past even faintest nebulae

Far from the pull of gravity
Free of Dark Matter's hidden vector
In existential cavity
Untied to any spacial sector

All human weakness risen above
In solitary freedom primitive
Beyond the bonds of hate or love
There sits the Bare Infinitive

No cares nor problems, fears nor pains
But there's one question that remains
From Liberty did he take a blessed kiss?
Or to false seductive promise succumb
Is he in sublime unfettered bliss?
Or formless, endless tedium

Life,Undefinable Definitive

Life! sweetest of everything below the sky
The bitterness of which is worse than gall
Peaceful as the stared heavens without clouds
More troubled than the tempestuous oceans
Serenely silenced as the breeze on high
Louder than the pandemonium of a lunatic ball
Harder than a mountain of diamond stout

Life! fresher than a bed of newly fallen snow
Withered like a month old ungerminated-apple-seed
Brighter than the sunshine at it's highest peak
Darker than the enraged and starless African- Night
Hotter than an Axe burnt to redness glow
As cold as the Dog's running nose of pee
With Infinitive vastness of immeasurable round peak
And so tiny as to be in the heart of no pint

     Life! undesirable neccessity
     Man comes
     Man lives
     Man leaves
But life will continue to be!

What If

What if…

The Oost, behind cloud belt, stretches
like a damp horse blanket
not forever, in the infinitive, it does not exist
As there are no limits
For argument's sake let us say there is a border
what would it consist of, surely not?
The shattering of the famous glass ceiling, broken
glass on an expensive coiffeur and the hairdresser cried.
It could be an elastic material that if you cut, it opens
the whole universe will collapse like a balloon
at a New Year party or a used condom leisurely thrown
on the floor picked up by the dog that ran outside
thinking it was a marrow bone.
Curiosity and knowledge are of great value, but there
are moments when ignorance is blissful

Name My Sayings - What's In a Name

A list of names this contest needs
But what to pick to serve this deed?
I'll use the census - names top ten
And express my wisdom - pseudo zen

Surprised by sudden traffic jam
Essential for your brakes to slam

Shake up nitro just a taj
Oh no earned my Darwin badge

When let down by dear heartthrob
'erts a lot, so have a sob

Reported UFO not cosmic
Ha! Elastic frisbee con trick

Punctuation, spelling, grammar
Your language wood and nails and hammer

I know what's best - I break your will
I am your boss - now take your pill

Beware of other's dark agenda
Video the truth offender

Here's a scheme to make you rich
'ard resist my conman's pitch

When drinking up a mug of char
Less is more and near is far

A flute, two drums and three banjos
Ephemeral - pluck, bang and blow

My names are split, word sin definitive
Yet just as sound as split infinitive
My English slang and lingua pidgin
Yet sage enough for fake religion!

Entry for "what's in a name" contest

Attempted Humor

She said she prefers humor
In a man. I am no Shakespeare
But I know how to conjugate
With knack and with wit, even
The occasional split infinitive:
To gamely gabble as she giggles.

Where is the fun in that? Better
To impress her with some slapstick
Skit, or razor sharp sarcastically
Spoken iambic limerick about
How good her big "bits" are, yes
My own form of comical flattery!

She is craving for it, the absence of
My despair (also known as tragedy).

The Reverie

"I flow in the reverie and
collide with ashore.
I scatter in infinitive drops and
connecting myself for flow.
I vaporise myself
to touch the cosmic heights.
With huge discharge of lighting
I create thundering clouds.
I'm from the womb
of mother Earth.
Which always convene me
to come on her lap.
I'm grateful to get her
great affection.
So, with the drops of rain
I come to make her evergreen again."______Durgesh Verma

Herzlichen Gluckwunsch Zum Geburtstag

With the gaiety of geisha girl
Like the antics of tilapia´s tail -
Left, right; left, right; left, right...

Omo o, eeipe e dagba
Omo o, eeipe e dagba o
Kekere jojolo la bi tiwa
Omo o , eeipe e dagba o

Holler, holler in our gorgeous lace
Chesting out our priceless jewel
Adoring Lord for his infinitive grace
His love is deeper than any well.

Omo o, eeipe e dagba ...

He has caused us to dance today
Our joy is full, our art is fun
March 17 he has granted our merry day -
The day Princess Amogemola was born.

Omo o, eeipe e dagba...

Ways may be rough, life may be tough
Still we shall exalt His holy name
Who has given us reasons to laugh
Whose gift to us is now a dame.

Omo o, eeipe e dagba...

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag our baby girl
With you life is good and well.

Omo o, eeipe e dagba...

Clarity; what is it?
Perfection of mind
Beauty all around
Infinitive endless time

Purity; what is it?
A breath of fresh air
Clear water we drink
Warmth the suns glare

Perfection; what is it?
Shallowness within
Judgement from others
Weakness of sin

Innocence; what is it?
Smiling beautiful child
Vultures of society
Ruins the beguiled

Lost; where am I?
Identity of soul
Perplexed confusion
Strength and control
