Grammar Series PRONOUN HOEDOWN Grab your partner he or she I'll choose you and you choose me We'll go left if you go right They'll keep going all through the night In this here hoedown we use pronouns We'll all git around with no names down I don't know your moniker you don't know mine We'll stay anonymous and have a good time You've got no partner, you're on the shelf Just test your reflex and dance with yourself I’ll teach you how to do-si-do Then maybe we’ll go for a yo! ho! ho! Well dang ma britches, mighty fine You split your infinitive an I split mine Up on the stand they're a' pickin and grinnin Down on the floor them's men and they's wimmin They said they were going out to gaze at a star But when they came back he gave a big yeee haaa! Up in the hay loft where the lamp light flickers* I lost ma heart an she lost her parasol Without proper nouns we can do no harm What's done in the barn will stay on the farm An exercise in the use of pronouns - 32 instances *This verse attributed to the great Ronnie Barker
