The Bare Infinitive

THE BARE INFINITIVE Look: up above the stratosphere Outside the earth's protective veneer Beyond planets stars and galaxy Past even faintest nebulae Far from the pull of gravity Free of Dark Matter's hidden vector In existential cavity Untied to any spacial sector All human weakness risen above In solitary freedom primitive Beyond the bonds of hate or love There sits the Bare Infinitive No cares nor problems, fears nor pains But there's one question that remains From Liberty did he take a blessed kiss? Or to false seductive promise succumb Is he in sublime unfettered bliss? Or formless, endless tedium

I enjoyed your poem, and especially the creative rhymes. I love seeing words like "vector" in a poem :) Congrats on your win, Geoffrey.

A very clever poem and good questions. Personally, I think the "bare infinitive" would be in "formless, endless tedium" without his partner, "tense".

I think you have hit on a good point there, Carole. Without the finite, including tense there would be no narrative, nothing to make one want to turn the page.

A well posed riddle dear Geoffrey, the answer is in 'infinity' and lesson is to stay neutral in the 'Infinitive' and not be constricted by the conditioning or constraints society...Very cleverly written - I hope I've interpreted your meaning correctly...Maria

Thank you Maria.I was posing more questions than answers, one of which is: if all problems, challenges and goals with opposition (i.e. Games in essence) were removed (as, in heaven?) could we exist in a state of bliss, or would we be 'bored out of our minds'. As a corollary, should we be glad of problems, difficulties, challenges and possibility of loss?

I'm not sure what I am or where, but I still think about it and surmise; but I don't think I believe the big chicken theory.
