The stars have descended a little lower, to keep us —
My kinsmen and I —company on this night watch
On a newly roused African night.
We filch a little bit of the effulgence of the waking moon,
Reluctant, with the invasion of jealous clouds, their plumes
Fragile with inconsistency.
We rely on the luminescence of each other’s eyes and the trust
In our hearts
Tinder, broken by flying flickers of fireflies,
Shine through the breath of darkness, dis-virgining the chunky yolk
Of secrets and the clout of night, so corvine.
Every breath keeps us warm and frightens the monsters lurking
Around the lean corridors of the enchanted thresholds.
The heavens stare downward —witnesses to a stifling explosion of
Will; so are the crepitating crickets and cicadas —in prayers they
Egg us on, and through borrowed liturgy of nocturnal canticles.
The heartbeats in us make silenced music —loud only by the essence of
Gaiety and humming drums lightly tapped by ancestral fingers,
Helping to warm our hearts and will in the face of the severest darkness
Made lighter by the glows of slow-running lights — the broad painting of
Dawn.

It’s raining cats and dogs
Do you know why
Us young kids shout
Devil is beating his wife
What crazy superstitions
We had in North Carolina
A woman’s intuition
Was powerfully finer
Step on a crack
Break your mother’s back
Why would you do that
It’d make her very sad
My muse has had a few
Forgive my inconsistency
The more writing I do
The less my muse screams
It’s thundering and lightning
God’s moving His furniture
Must be so elegant exciting
Watching the world turning Sir
Last night I had sweet dreams
The sandman was nice to me
A lullaby the angels sing
Soft as their fluffy white wings

They do not see me,
only numbers,
a mind wrapped in accolades,
a vessel of knowledge,
but never a soul.
What I do beyond the classroom
is dust in the wind,
unnoticed, unworthy,
a shadow cast by my own intellect.
My mind,
a magnet for praise,
a curse to myself.
neglect my suffering,
worship my GPA.
Scorn my exhaustion,
demand I excel.
Work. Work. Work. Work.
Run faster, push harder,
outshine the one behind,
outdo the one ahead.
Break the cycle.
Be first.
Full ride, perfect score,
rewrite the past in brighter ink.
Don’t be her. Be better.
Don’t compare. But compare.
Lead, but follow.
Stand out, but fit in.
A never-ending tug-of-war,
and when the rope snaps,
I stand alone.
Dangling between purpose and place,
the misplaced piece in a puzzle
that never had a space for me.
In a world of patterns,
I am the outlier, the inconsistency,
the contradiction wrapped in expectation.
My mind—a battlefield,
truth and acceptance at war,
the lines blurred,
the victor unknown.
All I know is that each battle
leaves me emptier
than the last.

Consistency is key isn't it not?
Then why does it feel like a chore rather than a reward?
Nobody gives you a road map on life
So why are there so many pressures from wrong to right?
Inconsistency has been a part of my whole life
Whether I knew it or not
But that's the thing
Little girls and little boys are constantly told
How to act
How to be
How to become just the thing their parents need
But never how to be free
Free from limitations of themselves and this 'such cruel world' they're preached about
"This world is a dangerous place"
Then show me what to do
Instead of putting all these things in my head of what I should want to do
Show me how to be cautious but true to myself
Because you've never done that now
Oh I'm so sorry if this feels like too much to ask
But I'm tired of not knowing who I want to be, who I could be, who I will always be
The real me
Regardless of you or this world
I'm done
For the first time in my life, I want to be me
Eccentric, silly, fun-loving me

Truth be told I’m afraid of your love
For you are deep as blue ocean
As vast as night skies above
Your eyes like magical potions
Chocolate pools waiting for my drool
And I can drown in them as a fool
I guess I feel like a kite in a fight with wind
Being approached by your passion
Which is like a teal tornado
How can what looks so scary be calming
I desire all of you even your storm
Your kisses and richness of magnetic charm
Your anger and even your inconsistency
Seem to charm my pink panties off me
I’m gonna go out on a limb
And say you got me roses for trim
Maybe it was more maybe less
Confess you feel something too I guess
What if this is just a fling
And I never learn anything
And what if I’m everything you need
And you’re everything for me

Inconsistency leads to so many questions
Will I ever receive an honest confession?
Secret stalking seems to be one of your obsessions
Why am I treated like one of your possessions?
Affection you portray, I’ll met with my rejection
Is your belief based on love my secret election
Are thoughts in my mind guided in that direction
Feelings by design for closer inspection
When I mention my dreams you seem to snicker
And a polite introjection pulls a certain trigger
Untitled our story still remains
As I burn this ink into this page
Soaking past pages in the sea
Watching them sink while shyness flees
To one day destroy your demon and mine
Draw me closer as two hearts entwine
Under the sweet warmth of a new dawn sun
As our souls intertwine there is no reason to run
Our opalescent lives have just begun
Burning to our core there is now fire in our eyes
Let the cleansing rain fall from the skies
Like a Phoenix we will rise in recital
Sing a song I don’t want to title
(My rewrite of a poem called Jinxed)

Draw me closer as two hearts become one.
Under sweet warmth of a new dawn's sun.
As our souls entwine there is no reason to run.
Our opalescent lives have just begun.
Burning to our core there is now fire in our eyes.
Let the cleansing rain gently fall from the skies.
Like a Phoenix we will rise in recital, sing a song I didn't want to title.
But, doubts in my mind begin to trigger, when I mention my dreams, you seem to snig*Er
Is your belief based on love being factual?
Affection you portray, is it even natural?
Inconsistency leads to so many questions, why am I treated like one of your possessions?
Secret stalking, seems one of your obsessions.
Will I ever receive any honest confessions?
Untitled our story remains, as I burn the ink, soak past pages in the sea, watching them sink.
As your control of my heart begins to shrink, finally I destroy the demons of your jinx.

Yes, I have called you callous
Garish and imperious
An inconvenient glare
Cracking apart the shadows of my sleep
The insistent inconsistency
Of the besieging and retreating heat
In your smoke stained fingers
Your blistering love peeling
My patience, my humor and
The back of my neck
Yet also, I have watched
My windows grow more golden
In the bask of your benevolence
Pouring your glory into
Precisely trimmed squares
On my kitchen floor
Your manes of wheaten hills
Crowning the coming harvest
With luxurious grain
So I will forgive
Your sultry swagger
Your stifling autocracy
As these dog days close in
For you are also
The best excuse
For ice cream

Adam: A Man – First to come, Last to know
Eve: A Woman – Innocent Temptation, Supple Adamant, Persistent Inconsistency
The Serpent: Being in and of the Human Condition, The Serpent appears, as is his wont, at our want and always in appropriate guise
Act 0, Scene –III : The Mind of Everyman
There lurks within the recesses of the human psyche the price we pay for the Gift of Awareness – Doubt. Before Doubt lies – The Serpent (an artifact of awareness) – shifting, undulating, appealing and repulsive, guarding Doubt, concealing, yet by its very presence … confirming Doubt’s existence.
THE SERPENT
Fundamental - Primal - Want
Slipping, Sliding, Slow, Savant
Turning back upon Himself
Insinuating with His stealth
His vulgar touch
His sensuous feel
His warm embrace
His dark appeal
The innate joy with which He takes
The innocence of one mistake
And when He’s done
You’re all alone
The warmth is gone
You’re on your own
You look around … but then you find
The Serpent’s there
Inside your mind

Are you one who's adept at dream creation?
Or, do you play a role in the dream's formation?
Can you switch tracks at any given station?
When you dream, are you able to retell the theme?
I like dreaming and believe that they have real meaning*.
But the older I get, I recall less in dreams, it seems.
Some themes I can piece together, but only occasionally.
There's a great disconnect with noted inconsistency.
Can you create, delete, or dismiss your own content?
If deemed uninteresting, can you avoid certain events?
I don't let it bother me, because it beats having nightmares.

It is
filled with happiness,
an unusual light
as transparencies
illuminate the
drastic actions
that must
be taken
to live in
the throes
of faithfulness
as you take
steps to pester
the solid walls
of inconsistency
that form
everyday glances
into the realm
of truth
that is constructed
with the dreams
of persistence

I thought
by the rhetorical words of poems
I will ornate you,
But you wanted the rainbow colored moon
I thought
by the passionate pages of full poem
I will make hearty hut for you,
But you wanted a floating palace with pink clouds
I thought
I will make divine dresses for you
by the intoxicated lines of rhythmic poems,
But you wanted to wear the mermaid dress
Within your life's insinuation
I didn't find any harmony
I wrote poems for you
But now insects are building nests
in the old books of poems
My eyes sought you on your coming path
But now both sights becomes blind
I sang loudly for your rapturous meeting with me
But now vocal cords of my voice are torn
I waited for long time for your slight visiting
But now I'm under the unaided tomb
Oh, to me you didn't come
So, I didn't make any chum

Without the preamble of you
Or the story of we
This is the reality after the show
The stage after the cast calls
The lines within the gory scenes
The truth after defenses
This is it
This is it?
This vast place of insufficiency
This palace built on inconsistency
Empty talk and woozy promises
Desperate lies and hungry wishes
This pain in the truth
The truth that I too let this charade stand
I said march on to the band
So brethren this is it.
Join me to loathe it
