Today I feel iambic! I would say
of all the meters, I like it the best.
An iamb starts with some soft sound to say
then ev'ry second syllable is stressed.
Trochees likewise, alternate their stresses;
even-numbered syllables are muted.
Nowhere near as popular (my guess is) -
Trochee fans, though, fervently dispute it.
Feet are the units of meter - such fun!
Dactyls have syllables STRESSED/, un-/, and un-.
"T'was the Night Before Christmas" is in Anapest:
that's a foot with three syllables: un-/, un-/, and
STRESSED.
The meter is the pattern of the beats within a line
"Iambic" and "Heptameter" describe this line just fine.
Anapestic Tetrameter: four anapests;
and the best part of THIS lecture series? No tests!
Trimeter has three feet
Tetrameter has just four feet
Pentameter adds one foot, making five
Hexameter adds one: six feet in this beehive
Heptameter has seven feet, but now it's getting late;
and so I'll close with this (you may have guessed):
Octameter has eight!

Skipping 'cross the village square
Smiling like the noonday sun
Maidens gather everywhere
Errands finished, workday done
Dresses billow in the breeze
Laughing eyes, flirtatious smiles
Skirts uplifted past their knees
Practicing their female wiles
Woke up with a grunt and moan
Glad was I the sun still shone
Got back on the cursed phone
Banker's business: contracts, loans
Timepiece now won't move at all
Maidens gone ~ my tears, they fall

Something touched me long ago in black-and-white old movies
The sight of someone sitting down, and just before she ate
Folding hands and saying Grace, the food warm on her plate
It never left me, truth be told, and with each passing year
When I think back to simpler times, I'm always moved to tears

Woebegone
Full fifty years ago, late summer, we had planted you...
two tiny, wispy saplings that would grow and grace our lawn.
But mother nature came...lashed her tornado to undue
your beauty with a monstrous hack that leaves us woebegone.

A Second in Court
A déjà vu to centuries past is just a quantum peak
to glimpse the courtly, avant-garde in session to critique
Baroque and Renaissance displays, pointing as they speak,
admiring slight anomaly that makes some art unique.
With ennui they gave no ear to a dilettante’s entreat
knowing only, it’s the king and queen’s élan you have to meet.
A cacophony of tongues gossiped outcomes so discreet,
stood waiting for the bona fide applause, “Oh magnifique!”
Royal people had carte blanche to make artists great or weak
sometimes not ever finding those with natural technique.

I live next to a window where the sun shines down on me.
Oh, how I worship its life-giving, everlasting glow!
Each day I try to bend down further so my blooms can be
close to the glass and warmth of rays. But, soon before I know,
I'm turned around to face the room where precious light is low.
Now I must work so hard each day to seek the sun for sure;
begin my driven task of rising up again, endure
the plight of struggling, turning, twisting, for I am resolved
to standing tall again, then leaning in, more sun procure.
But, 'they' seem pleased my upright beauty, for a while, is solved!

The River
Where are you heading, rolling river, as you move along?
Where did you start your winding journey centuries ago?
What daring tales lay hidden in your soothing, rippling song?
What deep, dark secrets do you hold in mysteries below
as you now drift entrapped in nature's never-ending flow?

Personal Memories - Three Generations
Three generations in between them now so kindly lie;
sweet great granddaughter and great grand-papa can now belie
those years. She reads to him, and he so tenderly sits by...
two children now, they share these moments that now clarify
the bond of one on one where young and old does not apply.

A child's sky
Subtle emotions in heart,
till he grows up real smart,
Tears scroll down the chubby cheek,
for a toy meagre and meek!
Steals eye to slip out of house,
dad's anger is tough to douse,
The joy of winning marbles,
soon withers with growing barbels!
Mom is after for the meals,
not eating, puts her on heels,
Annoyance that ends in love,
Countless blessings from above!
Courage and zeal see no dearth,
angel gets heaven on earth,
Holy soul knows no deceit,
a child's sky has winsome fleets !!

He stands in a few distance,
His winning frame charms my eyes:
Lanky shape with flat tommy,
A broad chest seems full with brawn,
A dark spectacle that wins,
His hair style lauds his barber;
Today I have met my dream;
I will not let him slip off,
Now I will hunt my sweet one:
So I flirt and blink my eyes ,
No I have not done enough;
I wave to hunt my target,
My wave still misses his heart;
I cat walk and wind my waist,
Still my love will never yield,
I move to love of my heart;
Hello,I pat him in shoulder,
The guy falls flat on the floor,
In pain I ganash my teeth:
My man is a big puppet.

Wanderings of soul
Couldn't see the colour of the sky,
Nor the birds, their flight so high,
The greens were lost in twilight,
Didn't you see tears in my eyes ?
My stray soul that still wanders,
Passion swamps mind that ponders,
Parallel walk yet no greet,
Will the two banks ever meet ?
Vibrant dreams await fulfil,
Desires in heart deep instil,
Quell pain of eternity,
Do I live infinity ?
Till wrinkles on skin appear,
Emotions to mind will steer,
Till rainbow in sky will fade,
Can I beat my weary jade ?
Wanderings of soul will end,
Love if you could just pretend,
Your lie would be worth a price,
Can't you see tears in my eyes ?

Death, You Do Not Win
The world has been unkind to me
yet there's no where, no where to flee.
I'll sit and take it if I must
for all return to earthly dust.
To cry will do no worldly good.
Defy with spirit, as I should.
A loss that cannot be replaced
yet life must once again be faced.
So here I sit and wonder how
to stop the gloom which eats me now.
Can it be slain with greater love
or only healed by God above?
Once, anger always worked for me
but now, this time decides to flee.
Yet I seek not its quick return
true folly that my Soul shall spurn!
