Winter Whispers, Stupid Songs

The morning slaps me awake 
with a frozen windscreen,
keys in hand, scraping frost like
I’m chiselling through someone else’s mistakes.
My breath hangs in the air,
a ghost of myself
mocking the effort.

The cold flirts cruelly with my cheeks,
leaving them raw,
only for the radiator’s blast
to burn them out of spite.
The heating bill waits in the wings,

birdie on a painted slat
he flutters into a rush
of spring leaves
as if he were diving into a cold pool

Put the Heating On Its Freezing In Here

Aren't you cold

It's absolutely freezing in here

Put the heating on for a while

Haha what do I look like a millionaire

Go on put it on and watch the meter

Lord, please turn the heat down up there

Waking up shivering under my duvet,

Had an appointment so that was okay

The house is cold, the woman is old.  No food in the cupboard.  What can she do?
Off to the shop, it's warmer outside.  No place to escape to.

What can she do.  Why have to choose.  A choice between eating and heating.

Pension doesn't go far.  She worked all her adult
