Groggily Poems

Night Beats

a
dark limo
picks up my
still undressed
shadow

the driver is
known to me
as a frequent stranger

we are going to a gym
where some time later

i hang upside down
on inversion cables

blood full of head
a trishaw picks me up
takes me
far away

to where I can be better seen

that dream-hole
is occupied
by a blond barmaid
who likes my occasional presence

the bedroom is
coming groggily back to itself

a police dog shakes my thoughts
together we enter that
interrogation room
where crime
runs after its conscience

if I can keep my hands off myself
i won’t have to lay on my back
thinking of
you know who

Premium MemberNew Moorings

Daddy, there are new moorings, come see!
There are shiny pontoon chains and cables,
braided ropes and colorful pennants.
The anchors and piles and buoys all new!

He arose groggily and without ambition
but allowed the boy to lead him to the quay
wherein he saw indeed, new moorings!
His heart quickened.

Badly needed, as the old were worn,
tattered, and so dangerous that ships
stayed their distance from this port
and steered further up the coast.

Work had dried with the rotted ropes,
his hope was lost to the receding waves.
Until today, when new moorings
renewed a deep faith that saves.

Premium MemberThe Lure of the Desert

If you have never felt the lure of the desert,
you cannot understand why people like me
prefer to be surrounded by sandy dunes.
An inexplicable lure, that acts like a drug.....
Until I was kidnapped by four senile Bedouins.
There was nothing senile about their guns.
Courteously I was led into their tent
built near a small oasis. I was fed, sort of.
And then the entertainment began.

From behind the curtains, someone strummed
a melody of eastern music, eerie and mysterious,
but still unpleasant to my ears.
Two men performed a sword dance.
Then a lovely female dancer took the stage.
In the dim light, the air was smoky with hookahs,
she stood in the middle of the tent,
The music climbed slowly in a crescendo,
her dance matched the rhythm, slow to fast.
I wonder why she did not interest me.
I was more concerned about the weapons
Aimed idly at me. Someone handed me a drink,
like nectar. I drank and drank and drank.

The end came, abruptly.
I woke up groggily,
and was sent to the nearest town.
The senile Bedouin smiled:
"The desert has its beauty, my friend.
But be careful. You can get lost."
Still, the lure of the desert will always beckon.

Premium MemberMichel Boo Bay's Muse Committee

Upon the lavendar glossamer wings of charcoal’s dusted dew and happy elf magic, the joy muse brigade was super alive today.

The crazy-alive giggly sodalite-loving numphs created music in the right-brain crevices, enforcing his sense of play.

Dreaming desperate deeply, masterpieces within reach, issued a dramatic hush from Mystro Michael Known as Michael Boo-bay.

Staying groggily cognizant, productive muse, Crystal Quartz, leapt into full hypnotic mode and gave him a very productive day.

Dawn Moments

Dawn Moments...!

I groggily awoke and a small pot of coffee i brew
I sat outside and watched how the day slowly grew
it was dark at first , and the grass is wet with dew
then dawn approached dressed in dark grayish hue
and little by little it changed to silver and a hint of blue
the moon lit the sky smirking like a secret....only he knew
the feathery creatures sang and from tree to tree they flew
between the clouds , the sun awoke and teased its way through
and the colors around me changed to something altogether new
now i can see purple, red, yellow, orange and lots of blue
I felt very serene, and a smile on my face widely grew
and I thanked God for the beautiful picture for us he drew

Comatose

Comatose: inspired by Insomniac by Maya Angelou, for Joann’s Copycat contest

There are some morns when
Sleep conquers,
Heavy and masterful.
And all the tricks
That I groggily try
To shake it from my head
Are futile as raising the dead,
And much less hopeful.

At Slumber's Border

adrift in the blurred border
 of hypnotic slumber, forgetting,
   remembering, dozing off and away,

then, just like one jolted up
from a dream, or a diver gasping
hard, surging up and out of a stream,

         he groggily fumbles about
his bed worried, but with her warmth
across his chest, he smiles, sighs,

             eternally grateful to high heavens
for this true treasure he has been
so undeservedly blessed to keep !
