came the first world war
then disease and depression
followed by more war
science fiction books
reigned stories of future times
of rule by machines
good bad indifferent
like the day the earth stood still
with gort put in charge
nazi fascist thoughts
military robots rule
sheesh...just thought of that
stan sand
I bought an interocitor and put it in my phone
Now I'm getting messages from galaxies unknown
Klaatu said Gort is broken down and waiting for some parts
From beyond the outer limits, not found on any charts
The Borg said they'll assimilate, 'tis futile to resist
The Thing said it would vegetate upon my groc'ry list
Teenagers from outer space we're in the Twilight Zone
The Blob said it could split in half to make itself a clone
The Robinsons still lost in space, forevermore to roam
Outer space invading soon, and ET phoning home
Arrakis said the planet Earth must meet the Guild's demands
Or Dune would send its giant worms to eat Saharan sands
For fear we'll be invaded and my body snatched away
And all the dreadful thoughts I've had, it's time for me to say
I've put my cosmic calls on hold because, for what it's worth,
I'm getting all the flack I need from good old planet Earth.
Klaatu And Gort Together Forever
Alien translation -"Klaatu barada nikto” or “I died. Repair me. Do not retaliate.”
(I said this to my robot Gort)
(From the film: The Day The Earth Stood Still
Film writer: Edmund North)
I guess it worked as here we are
At least in memory
Do they still take diamonds as currency?
Is this New Jersey or some 1951 film?
And does Gort still stand by our saucer with his glowing red eye?
I used to stop time and the Earth on a dime
Machinery and things would cease
It seems like so much has changed
Color is part of life
And everything’s strange
I seem to remember, “The Day The Earth Stood Still.”
Does it still run?
It used to be black and white
The film that is…if I’m right
Klaatu and Gort don’t come from France
As some have suggested
But from the minds of man or alien planet
Here to protect us
Poem by: Earl Schumacker

Klaatu was an alien who came from a planet near a distant star.
To deliver a message to the people of the earth, he came far.
Klaatu’s home was far beyond the orbit of our moon.
The time of the year happened to be in the summer month of June.
His spaceship landed in the middle of the capital city of Washington.
A gadget Klaatu carried was mistakenly believed to be a stun gun.
One of the soldiers hastily shot the alien in the arm.
Gort the robot appeared to pull his master away from harm.
Klaatu lived incognito among the people of DC.
Do you want to know what happened? Watch the movie.
Based on the 1951 film “The Day the Earth Stood Still”
the sky is crystal blue
Lake Michigan the same
down the Eagle flew
to catch his game
he dropped his fish dinner
upon the riverbank
sea gulls flocked near the winner
for any scrap he did not take
as we gort a closer look
he was spooked and flew away
he perched upon the knotty Jackpine
and watched us play
well, it's happened!!!
they're nearly here...
galactic travels
of many a year....
death rays for nasty soupers
who speak with nasty word
fantastic treats for others
the nice guys, or so I've heard
either way, it should be cool
when saucers land
from way beyond the moon
I'm kind'a anxious somehow,
not sure why....
just hope they get here pretty soon..
Gort,! Klatu....Mirada....Niktoe!.....
wonder if they got
that model robot?
or the far more friendlier Robby....
whose lights and gears click,
whose top-heavy build
makes him sort'a wobbly
oh, well, don't matter much,
cause either way
that will not be a boring day!!
