[Not strictly limericks as syllable count is out,
But hey… be a rebel… ignore the rules!]

I met the young lady from flat forty-five
I told her, “Your beauty makes me feel alive.”
She said, “My name’s Lexi.”
Her voice was SO sexy
My heart beat as though it was in overdrive
She took no persuading to give me a kiss
And then she said, “I bet you want more than this.”
My ardour was stirred
A lot more occurred
And my whole life became an ocean of bliss
The feelings we nurtured in flat forty-five
Instilled in me romance that surely would thrive
She patted my sleeve
And said, “You should leave,
My next client is about due to arrive.”
Downhearted, I made my way down to the street
I felt worse than Bonaparte when he was beat
Until she called down,
“Don’t go off with a frown,
Podiatrists, like me, just do people’s feet”
Well that tipped the scales and put wind in my sails
I rushed up those stairs like a steam train on rails
And soon, side by side
I got me a bride
I also got soft feet with manicured nails
If I never had to leave your side?
I would forever be consumed by the
desire to write .
He wandered into the kitchen in a grumpy mood, so blue
Which lasted two seconds when he saw the friendly hue
Of twenty-one month old Derrick and grinning doggie too
No one could stay grouchy looking at smiles of these two
Their natural smiles lit up the kitchen in every direction.
Grandpa felt loved, and cherished, they exuded perfection.
He put Derrick on his lap for a second, but then had a recollection
At this age, he would rather maneuver, and eat some confection.
So he gave the child a sucker, and watched him and the dog play.
It turned into the most delightful ever Happy New Year’s Eve Day.
He remembered having these kinds of smiles, as he heard the boy say
Gammpa which truly and utterly made his grouchy day go away!
green as foliage’s in the sun;
Beauties are forever.
resplendent as the constellation
of stars,
Sunshine's are gems, rare;
of creatures divinely clayed.
hues of gold,
scents of tulips.
the charm, of a river nymph
fleshed-up in the graces of
heaven - Sublime.
angels are known and felt before
the tick of one second;
You are one,
a flower with the big heart
and though few the times together,
your peacocks are largely pronounced as the
fascination of your name – NGOZI
Glow.
Rise.
And twice the span of
four decades and five,
Fly in wings swifter than the eagles
for your stars have a thousand lights.
* Ngozi is an Igbo name that means "blessing".
(In praise of 'Ngozi Ochei; a beauty at 45, and still counting)

impressive palm print
fills the bulk of the forest
forty-five foot oak
leaving me warm memories
heavenly haven for crows
Love's cornerstone set
Forty-five years together
Dear wife of my youth
Our sons, their wives, our lives full
May love's embrace continue
~ to the moon and back ~
crutches compel my
Divine woman to think first
then to take a step
I'm set apart from them so I
decided to set the standard, and it
just might be the same reason I'm
having trouble handling it, so I ask
myself does she really have to be
damn near perfect when it's clear
you got flaws, emotions that go up
and down like a seesaw and
promises you're sure to break like
laws. So I segregated me from them
like Jim Crow, my expectations are
high but still I hang my head low, if
I don't make good on what I say
then obviously it was all for show,
my vision is tainted I'll gladly admit
it, looks like my past speaks to my
present so I'm still a victim of my
own sickness, I should take my own
advice right, and admit when I'm
wrong but what I long for seems so
outta reach and even tho God made
that covenant with man he still
deemed it necessary to fill that void
we were feeling with a female, that
one that makes us get back on the
right track when it's obvious by our
lonesome our train de rails when we
try to do it on our own, looks like I
should be the one privileged to be in
her presence because with all my
issues I know in her arms is where I
can say there's no place like home
