Trump and his fig leaf of tariff

To trump, MAGA dreams depend on tariff,
The math adds up or not, nor yet what if,
A tree’s just tree to him,
Minutiae, mental gym
To him, more than enough is mere fig leaf.

Note: It’s just beyond Trump to understand that if high tariffs make it tough for the exporters, it also makes it so for the importers and the domestic consumers to whom they add to costs and inflation which is already on the rise. Yet, his focus is on the added revenue, not on the truth that this revenue would not enable domestic production and employment, American costs being too high.

Beneath the Leaves

Beneath the warm sun, we wander
through the tangled branches
my grandfather's hands gentle,
like the tree itself, rooted and wise

He points to a ripe fig,
its skin a the color of a jewel.
I reach, as he coaches me
ripe and unripe

Conversation is exchanged
his grumbly Italian voice echos
like a simple song on the summer day

He tells stories under the shade,
of times coming and going
and I listen, hands sticky with nectar
learning from his words

In this small act
the picking, the talking
we find a moment, fleeting and eternal,
a harvest of memory and love

Premium MemberI Don't Give a Fig

To say you would unblock someone if they can be civil
is a crock of BS that I'd categorize as narcissistic drivel.
It's just another veiled shovel full, meant as a dig
but it's quite clear that some people don't give a fig!

Oh, the impudence of one who has an arrogant nature.
The petulance of one without disciplined nomenclature.

Florida's Fig Leaves

A principal had to resign
For an art teacher chose to assign
What a parent called ****
And she needed to warn
Those in charge it was way out of line.

Thought the students, eleven and twelve,
Into classical works were to delve,
Michelangelo’s art
Showed a male body part
That the protester wanted to shelve.

Now the David is known far and wide
And most viewers can take it in stride,
But in Florida’s schools
They play by different rules
So some crazy taboos are applied.

To that mother who thinks she protects
Her near-teen, maybe what she expects
Is that viewing a nude
Will make someone unglued,
Certain books having likewise effects.

Premium MemberThe Moreton Bay Fig

It still stands,
old wounds scabbed in gum,
the moreton bay fig
that I climbed as a child
and stabbed
to harvest
the white bleed
of its hurt.

High in its branches
I cut my initials
in the soft bark
to claim the highest climb.
It was the tallest tree
in my childhood.

A lifetime on
it arches its shade
over of the waste
from a building site.
A barbed wire fence
keeps children out.

I look up
into its wide reach
and wonder
if it still remembers me
now that my initials
have healed
to a scarred anonymity.

Premium MemberNothing But Fig Leaves

They say Adam and Eve pranced around wearing nothing
But fig leafs and the biggest grins the world has ever seen
Imagine NO FREAKING RULES!!!
All they had to worry about were those thorny bushes
And the occasional lightning bolt accompanied by a loud booming voice
Reminding Adam, “You owe me big time for this one, my friend!”
Caine and Abel along with seven other offsprings
Were the result of a lot of hanky panky
Do you blame him??? He was the luckiest dude EVER!!!
My question is, how did they keep those fig leafs in place
Scotch Tape? Elmer's Glue? Velcro?
Also why did they need those damn things to begin with
There wasn't another living soul to be seen
Imagine today, if we walked around naked as a jaybird
The population of the world would soar from 7 billion
To well over 20 billion in a matter of nine months counting twins
I'm not saying we couldn't carry on as usual with our daily routine
But perhaps the routine would be interrupted now and then
I have a suggestion for future generations if this becomes a problem
Think of Drew Carey nude!

Premium MemberFig Tree's Canopy

Under fig tree's cool
Leafy umbrella's vacuum....
Privacy prevails

My thoughts turn to Jesus when
He knew Nathanael was there

After picking a few figs on July 28th, when I walked inside the fig bush/tree's canopy a coolness and peace settled over me.

Ficus fracas
Benjamina
What a little prig!

Time to chop
you mallaprop;
Can’t produce a fig!

Righteous ficus
Carica
never be discountin’

Grabbed that little
benjie snot, and
drowned him
in the fountain.

Fig Leaf

           Thick Fig leaf deep green
     Flowers of plant hardly seen.
     Just as love hidden
        inside your fake refusal.
Fruit of love at stalk of leaf.

Fig Leaf

Hid from the world,
None of this they must see,
Concealed from my friends,
This to them may be strange,
Cloaked from my home,
Phantom I may seem to be,
Caught in a web of perplexities,
I fight to be freed,
Entangled in a replayed contest,
I persevere to conquer,
Edged in by opposing forces,
I push against the barriers,
Though none of this I can comprehend,
I'm unperturbed like a river at dawn.

With false intent, they should have cried.
First attempt at mendacity.
A fig leaf to cover their hide,
told half-truths with audacity.

Did they make mistakes as they sewed?
Were they thinking up excuses,
just like Peter ‘fore the cock crowed?
All sin would lead to Christ’s bruises.

Adam and Eve, Martha and Steve -
all of mankind, we miss the mark.
Poor naked souls, a crafty weave -
alone as Eden waxes dark.

In order to save them from doubt,
clothed them with wool of lamb - his best.
For when God made his rounds, called out,
they were ashamed, hardly dressed.
