Fig Leaf

With false intent, they should have cried.
First attempt at mendacity.
A fig leaf to cover their hide,
told half-truths with audacity.

Did they make mistakes as they sewed?
Were they thinking up excuses,
just like Peter ‘fore the cock crowed?
All sin would lead to Christ’s bruises.

Adam and Eve, Martha and Steve -
all of mankind, we miss the mark.
Poor naked souls, a crafty weave -
alone as Eden waxes dark.

In order to save them from doubt,
clothed them with wool of lamb - his best.
For when God made his rounds, called out,
they were ashamed, hardly dressed.

What a beautiful poem of faith Kim with so many amazing lines of vibrant creativity - "clothed them with wool of lamb," "poor naked souls," " a fig leaf to cover their hide." You have beautifully blended Eden to Resurrection in the metaphor of the fig leaf. Everything flows together! Congratulations on your win!

How can a little fig leaf cover what evidently it couldn't and why is it so significant , why not a small twig of a fig tree. Glad God finally dressed them with the wool of a lamb. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer. Happy Easter Monday Kim my friend.

This poetry appeals to me. I've always been curious about the fig leaf mythology. It appears to be completely bizarre to me!! Those seem to have been several really massive leaves!!

In Eden they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. God required a sacrifice until the great “I Am” became perfect sacrifice. Jesus died and rose again so we, by trusting him, can be reunited with our perfect God. Happy Easter!

And look at us now! Torn jeans and plunging necklines. Who gives a fig?! :)

God allowed them to feel their shame as they sewed clothes for themselves. They had no idea what covering was needed. I wonder if their first clothing will be in a museum ;)
