I plead guilty
Of saying,
My grandchild is
The most beautiful
The most wonderful
The most intelligent,
It shows, it is so evident,
Absolutely so loving,
Character and nature so giving,
Makes friends instantly
And acts independently,
And so much fun,
Takes my hand
To help build sandcastles
In the sea sand,
Likes to share,
Tells you if she feels you are wrong,
That is not fair,
And how old is this little wonder,
Who is not even afraid
Of an intense storm
With lightning and thunder,
Two years and 8 months,
Who converses so sensibly,
And comprehensibly,
I am not exaggerating,
Such a wise little mind
Who is also so truly kind,
Who tells me I am not pronouncing
“Absolutely,” Correctly

It is ab-so lut-ely yiayia, she says,
And I beam at you with pride
You are so little, yet mature
Everyday we love you more and more,
And one day when our time is up,
I hope no time too soon,
When you look up and
See a full bright moon,
And lots of glittering stars,
It’s Yiayia and pappou ,
Sending you hugs
And love galore.

YIAYIA AND PAPPOU ARE THE GREEK WORDS FOR – GRANNY AND GRANDPA

Premium MemberEmma and Deacon

Emma, Empress of Unicorn Empire,
esprit de corps of elementary school,
expeditious at exaggerating expression,
eagerly extending empathy of enormous embrace,
endless enthusiasm, exuberant existence.

Deacon, Duke of derring-do,
diligently, doggedly daily to delightful displays
of dauntless daredevil, destruction,
determined gamer, droll demeanor,
dearly dedicated to devouring desserts,
Dad's double, diplomat of Dreamland.

The leaf that never turned green

Do I call it an unhealthy obsession?
The insanity of my restless mind?
A picture-perfect story, unsuited for the frame

But would it be too much to ask for?
To record every laugh of yours
To capture every fleeing second of your frame
To hear your voice on an endless loop,
To love you a little more and then again a little more in a cycle untill I'm a fallen leaf
Would that be too much to ask for?

A picture-perfect story when I don't even have a picture
To hold onto you forever?
I never knew if this would happen, If it would end on good terms, Or if it would ever truly begin.

Your eyes-serendipity etched in my life- You're ineffable, beyond words for this world.
And yet, I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said it so.

I won't ask why it ended like this.
I won't ask why it never began.
Maybe, in another universe, The threads connected as they should

But here, i lost the golden string that was destined to bind us.
Would it be too much to ask, to manifest a dream when there's nothing left to weave?

I'd still ask for a little more
To hold onto those moments, to stay just a little longer with you.
Would that be too much to ask for?

The sky and the ocean

The sky and the ocean
The light and the darkness
The sun and the moon
The pink and the blue
My paintings,

Everything came true
When I realised
They were all YOU...

Premium MemberIs September 2024 Unusually Hot

I had a feeling this was an unusually hot September.
I said this to a few people.
They pooh-poohed my idea.

Most said they could remember lots of warm Septembers.
But this warm? I asked them.
ninety-one degrees on September 17th in Kansas?

Most of them do not live in Kansas,
but they live in the Midwest.
They insisted I was exaggerating the hotness of 2024.

I finally consulted a weather tracking system.
This system stated that this is the hottest September
in one hundred and seventy-four years.

Do I feel validated?
Not really.
But I know that I am not crazy now.

Premium MemberThis Question Does Not Compute

Let's see... how do I feel today
Pretty much the same as yesterday except one day older
Guess that's the least anyone can expect
Wonder if an enormous amount of money just plopped in my lap
Would that make any kind of a significant difference
Sure would like to give that a shot
Perhaps I'll buy a ticket for the next ten million dollar lotto
To know how it feels when they call up and say
“You are our grand prize winner!
After the government grabs it's share
We will be sending you a cheque for $136.50!
As part of the rules of the contest
You'll be required to make a televised statement
Excitably explaining how this win has changed your life!”
WOWSERS! I'm underwhelmed
Been wearing these same old holey beat up jeans
For nigh onto ten years now
You won't believe how much this means to me...
Don't know how I'll ever begin to thank you!
I apologise if this sounds a bit cynical
But where did the other $9,999,863.50 go
This reply came back...
“Sorry this question does not compute!”

(I'm exaggerating a wee bit, of course!)

Premium Memberhe dazzled my eyes out

I had heard of cute clowns, but this was ridiculous.
Mom said, “prepare me to dazzle your eyes out.”
I had laughed, thinking she was exaggerating.
Then he walked in, and he was the epitome of cute.

Ringlets of soft caramel hair framed a darling face.
He was not garish or cheap like other clowns.
He was refined, handsome, respectably adorable.
I said. “You dazzled my eyes out” and she smiled.

Unheard-Cries-Of-A-Troubled-Soul

Why do I feel Myself just sinking
With nothing and no one to hold on to
Slowly, yet, I am on solid ground
Do not think it ironic
It’s quite plausible

Only I am not sinking,
Not literally anyway
Just emotionally, psychologically, spiritually
There’s nothing of Me left

No, I am not crazy!
No, I am not delusional
No, I am not over-exaggerating
No, I am not under the influence!
Listen to me.

I did not vanish into thin air
I did not explode into tiny pieces
I am not invisible
Yes, you can still see Me
You can still hear Me!

But can you?
Is it Me you see?
Is it Me you hear?
Or is it the illusion of My body, My voice,
Struggling to exist, in agony, but perhaps with a little hope
The hope of a new dawn

Perhaps it will be better today than it was the centuries before
That hope is all I have left
All I have not to let go
But perhaps that too will fade.

I plead you save your laughter for a more dramatic act
Kick me not to the curb
Do not be ignorant of my suffering
And later have the boldness to say
“If only we knew”
At the place I will rest

LISTEN TO ME!

Premium MemberHappy Dreams Be To Ye

exaggerating the injury
in as it so appeared
perhaps attention seeking
or maybe just playfulness
but be that as it may
by feeding that thought
creating an imaginary bubble
we made real the unreal
and then lived through it

thus we are both the cause
as also the effect
and the awareness
that experiences creation

let’s then make our dreams
blissful and sublime

Exaggeration

Exaggerating
When you always speak
Bad about Africa
From morning to night
Forgeting  that it is the credle
Of humanity
Which means
Where all the races
Originate.
Or the grand mother of all the nations.
Insulting your grand mother daily
Does not erase the traces.

Just a Human

The gray sky is exaggerating the darkness in my mind
I see faces laughing at me, all day and all night
Maybe I overthink or maybe I am right
Both instances haunt me, hunt me and hurt me
It's always an atrocious sight
You tell to perform
But I don't know what to do
I am just a girl
Not a clown in the circus, not a lion in the zoo
It's been done before you say
A legacy of the ages
We were also tortured, so we do the same
Hunters like to kill, for long we served as bait
Now it's our chance and we deserve to shout a shrill melody wrapped up in mind numbing grace
Your voice excels my song
Your moves ruin my dance
And you say you also bothered with this all
And you are just a human
The another person I know
Suffered the same
But she smiles when she talks to me
Her voice is sweet like the summer rain
What happened to me was wrong and I will never do the same
I understand as a human
Playing with people's heart is not a game

Both leave me pondering
One is truly a human
And one is just a human

Premium MemberA Bit of Hokay Pokay

Methinks I'm overdoing these pep talks
You people must be tired and bored
I hereby announce, going back to the sillies
Worry not, it's off my own accord

A niche that's always been my cup of tea
Poetry that includes lots of humour
Get quite a kick out of making folks laugh
Losing my smile's just a rumour

So here we go, are you ready for this stuff
I'm afraid it can get a bit hokay
What did the water say to the cruise ship?
Nothing, it just waved... okay-dokay

Now wasn't that extremely thoughtful of me
Coming up with this comedic gem
I'm not just another pretty face you know
I'm real kind and a genuine friend

Are you ready to bust a gut laughing again
Well maybe I'm exaggerating a bit
Are you ready to pee in your pantaloons
Oops sorry! No off colour quips

I've always been known as a rebellious sort
But I've tried hard to mend my ways
So it's nothing but sillies from this day forward
You can bet all your hard earned pay!

Premium MemberApologizing For the Crazy Quilt

I have made the weirdest quilt, the woman apologized to me.
It is bits of scraps of every color, you might not even like it.
I had seen a lot of quilts that I do not like. They are too symmetrical.
Too straight. Too circular Too placidly placed. Too perfect.

I did not get my hopes up, because she kept apologizing.
As if it was not good, worse, as if no one would want it.
I reluctantly followed her home from church to see the travesty.
It was the prettiest quilt I have ever seen – full of all kinds of delights.

Every color, pattern, hue, and texture imaginable was in this quilt.
It may have to be dry-cleaned, she apologized. I added velvet.
She surely did and satin and all kinds of other marvelous textures.
I love it more than I have ever loved another quilt I told her.

I was not exaggerating. I have it to this day, it is my favorite quilt.
I hope she is not still apologizing to the angels in heaven.
Wishing her self confidence and the knowledge that she is super special.
And she gave me exactly the right gift.
