on the same boat

We’re on the same boat
Nurses and teachers,
Doctors and farmers,
Mr. Moreno and his “maricon”
Enrico Macias and his dry guitar,

We are on the same boat,
The Sevillans and the Marseillais,
The Brazilians and their forests,
My sister Anne and her diabetic patients
Catholics and Muslims,

we are on the same boat,
firefighters and butchers,
The jellyfish and the ancient Greeks,
Psychiatrists and Carl Jung,
the Breton cakes and the scholars,

We are on the same boat,
The astrophysicists and mangousts,
Tarzan and the pizza eaters,
The farmers and gold miners,
We are on a steaming boat,
That of men who seek God.

Premium Member An Odd Little Message

On a blustery Sunday in May
an odd little message came my way
on a whispering wind from the west
in the strangest code it was dressed

Abel, Cain, Jacob, Esau, Samson, Delilah, it said
Single or married, we're all cut down in the end
Madame Curie, Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Christianity
Science's gleaming Cross wreathed with rosaries

Once the meaning I grasped, I inhaled to gasp
when struck dead by Cleopatra Philopater's asp

Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007)

Goodbye, Luciano,
easing through death's door,
no more thy voice shall soar.

Farewell, Luciano,
no longer croon ‘O Sole Mio’
to take thee back to Sorrento.

Adios, Luciano,
unto a peaceful slumber deep,
from the world's travails escape.

Hark! Enrico Caruso,
bid the angels welcome Luciano
into the heavenly choir in the sky.

Enrico's Serenade

Like a morning breeze,
dear, I come to you
with a soft caress,
to hold you in my arms
forevermore.

Take me in your mind,
tell me you love me,
share your love tonight
to last me all the days
and through the years.

Let my arms enfold you,
let my lips to kiss you,
put my heart on fire -
a blazing flame
of sweet desire;
hold me tenderly
and soothe this soul
of mine longing for you;
forever you will be
my one true love,
my dream,
my only sweetheart
you will be.

Like a morning breeze,
dear, I come to you
with a soft caress,
to hold you in my arms
forevermore.

(Based on Enrico Toselli's 'Serenata')
