Drag On Poems | Examples

Not on a Monday

The day I dread most
Silences fun five whole days~
Wake too soon, return too late;
Hours drag on like stones.
Alarm bells bury silence
Till weekends return with sparks.

Long Hours and a few Dying Flowers

Long hours tick by, slow and cold
As petals drop, and beauty grows old
A few dying flowers, once full of grace
Now wilted, faded, without a trace

Of vibrancy, of life, of color bright
Leaving only memories, a distant light
The hours drag on, a relentless pace
As beauty fades, and time takes its place

Yet in the wilting, there's a strange allure
A poignant beauty, a fleeting allure
A reminder that life is short and sweet
And every moment, we must seize and greet

So let us cherish the flowers, dying though they be
And honor the hours, long and slow as they may be
For in their fragile beauty, we find a truth profound
That life is precious, and every moment, a treasure to be found.

Roots

Tell me
Can a tree without roots
Ever bear fruit?

Tell me
Can a ship without sails
Ever make haste in the boundless sea?

Death creeps, cloying
Knotted garters frayed

Under the sea the sirens wail
Forgotten, ignored
But for the ones who live on
The feet do drag on
Swollen, septic, deeply forlorn

For those of us who are aware
Who live in a world; awake
Be sure to spare a thought
For us lowly wretched

Hope exists of course
There must be light for shadows
But fruit does surely rot
Make haste, the eye of the needle continues to narrow

Say Hello To the Yellow Sun

Say hello to the yellow sun,
we start from the same point;
spending the whole day dreaming is smart,
burden can spoil everything as we drag on!

Say hello to the yellow sun
it gives us light to make life worthwhile;
what a blessing is to wake up and smile!
Doesn't each sunrise stun?

Say hello to the rising sun,
be joyful, show no frown;
let the day start, putting worries aside...
how pleasant would be the bright side!

Say hello to the yellow sun,
it can be instilled in you wonder and make you shine;
don't be in a hurry, wear your sunglasses and admire
its crossing until sundown!

On A Warm Summers Day

On A Warm Summers Day

On a warm summers day
I met God
Standing in the courtyard
Of my very own backyard
Now here he is
Drawing on my pipe
Passes it to me
Offers me a light
And the mind slips away
Feet drag on the floor
Spinning me in circles
Until I don’t want to be spun
No more

Premium MemberWhen Long Days Drag On Me

When long days drag on me
And my soul cries in the dark
Then I speak my prayer in sleight
And He slips it into my jar.

Prithee – give it wings to fly up
Beyond to the sapphire throne –
Leaving me amidst where I am
Yet I do not feel alone.

Someday when time is cut sharp –
I'll retrieve it from Whom I belong
And finding a full jar of prayers –
Know that I was never alone.

Premium MemberFeeling Cranky In Summer

Why do I feel cranky in summer?
Everyone’s living, I'm not.
Burdened by cares, I can't set free
It's so darn hot!
It stifles the joys.
It forces me indoors.
The air is thick, it weighs me down.
My cheer is shortchanged, curtailed.
As summer days drag on and on,
The sun beats down, relentless, so strong,
The air is thick syrupy and heavy,
Unlike my patience, which is worn down to thread-bare thin.
Tiny things annoy me, it's like I can't ever win.
The bees buzz around inside my head endlessly.
Mosquitoes buzz around my ears relentlessly,
I swing, I swat, I slap, I stomp my feet, cry.
I'm spoiling for an impossible fight with an insect!
Which I know I can never win; why do I try?
In sweat-soaked clothes my temper flares!
When will this nightmare end?
It did, I had an ice-cream sundae with nuts!

Premium MemberEmbers

It keeps on going as according to some plan
Till all the burning questions turn to embers
Days drag on by like endless caravan
I’ve heard my name is on the list of members
I’ve tried some fortune, like the other people do
My income couldn’t cover all expenses
Required paperwork is not the one I knew
So little privacy is left for recompenses
Time spent, so clock was my co-writer
Of texts unwritten, of the fading memories
I note that embers in the evening burn brighter
As was expected: you’ve already seen all this.

Premium MemberSorrow, Be Gone

Morning didn't paint pastel skies
Thunder drummed, a sound I despise
Tears rolled down from my blurry eyes
Gloomy sunrise Gloomy sunrise

Melancholy feelings were grim
Life was sorrowful without him
Like words sung in funeral hymn
My light's gone dim My light's gone dim

I wear depression like a shroud
Before God's alter, with head bowed,
Incessantly, I pray aloud
My love avowed My love avowed

I became wistful and withdrawn
The moment I awoke at dawn
How long will my heartache drag on
Sorrow, be gone Sorrow, be gone

When You Realize What You Had

Sometimes the afternoons drag on---
Yesterday was a haze of smoke,
Cigarettes and coffee---
And the radio plays
Jazz---
The air gets blurred sometimes
With cigarette smoke and sax

Thinking of you
Makes the afternoons go by faster
Until they blend into dusk,
And then evening---
Evenings without you

But I don't care
It doesn't matter
It doesn't mean anything to me

It's just that smoke
Gets in my eyes

The Fury of Rage

I deleted another poem tonight
and the Muse raged into fury
“You never asked for my permission” she said,
as her voice thundered deeply inside
“You’ll pay for this in sleepless hours
and nights when dreams are truant…”
Her promises kept, my nights defiled,
and days drag on untethered
As I write yet another “I’m sorry” to her
in verse both coarse and dry

Premium MemberDeath O Deathless

Like a gift unoffered, you've snatched my sweetheart!
Lifeless, aimless, like her ghost I drag on here!

Body cold! Bleached as washer-man thump!
Hair still growing! Nails getting sharpened!
White burial shroud; No wedding gown!
Flower dumped; Ruby necklace covered up!
Unknown smile! Farewell? Joyous to part?
Or already gained a glimpse of paradise?
Your hands seem to resist the mud fall!
As though not ready to be buried!

Yes, dear Death! You’ve determined to take her away!
Here she is; at your command; submissive; Silent!
You had tried this many times! Saved by money and science?
What all names you gave! Cancer! Hemorrhage! Cardiac arrest!
I think at the time of your impulse of calling someone,
You do not listen to God, leave alone the heavenly angels!
I have been praying for your death, but you have none!
Today she might be; tomorrow me; then sons and daughters...!
Or all before me, leaving me double-dead and none to care!
Bon, voyage to you, dear Death, till we meet again soon!
