DOG CHASES TAIL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In circles goes the dog,
a furry whirlwind, tail a-wagging,
his nose to the ground, sniffing out the ghost of a bone
with no clue as to where he left it.
Ahh, the circle grows, and me thinks he’s quite mad!
Truth be told, that bone is a relic,
a trophy of nothing, a piece of yesterday's joy,
devoid of any savory delight;
yet, he’s bewitched
by the lure of that which once he had.
The quest persists, but time, the trickster,
plays its multifarious games.
Memory grows faint, but
the haze of longing remains
lost in the labyrinth of time.
Distractions dart by—a squirrel, a leaf,
But wait—what’s this? A flash of color
bounces by and the spell is broken,
the quest for the bone forgotten,
distraction wagging his tail.
And so he circles, a furry Sisyphus,
chasing phantoms in the grass,
he sniffs, snorts, and spins—
a canine circus act.
Poor Fido is last in the queue
For cocking his leg on the yew
He hopes the other dogs
Don’t produce poopy logs
He’s bursting to pee and then poo!
Concert tickets were a fabulous gift,
But this bathroom line has me quite miffed.
Next time, I won't wait to "go"
Until after the show
When I go out to see Taylor Swift.
i light a candle tonight
i make cinnamon roll oatmeal
the only company that i have is a homeless kitten
i give her some milk
we enjoy the quiet of the aging night
we both need the calm and the slowdown
i pet the homeless kitten
it begins to purr like a child in perfect comfort
i think about today's world and am glad to be quarantined for a bit
we are unplugged with plugs, so i unplug everything
the homeless kitten lets out a few kiddy meows
i laugh at her attempts at expressionism
tonight we hide from the world
tomorrow we do more of the same
the day after that it's back to it
the homeless kitten stays though....until my friend comes to take her
i will light another candle the next night
i will make honey battered chicken tenders with ranch dressing
the only company that i will have is a homeless kitten
i give her some canned tuna
we enjoy the quiet of our last night together
I‘d been staying with pa - my folks got a divorce
and pa took me to the local greyhound course
Pa’s greyhound was running, he runs very fast
He’s called Pterodactyl, pa’s dog never comes last!
I stayed in the stalls, it was pouring with rain
and our ‘Terry’ was winning again and again
I’d an essay to write on Catherine of Aragon
So I worked studiously while the racing was on
At the end of the racing my essay’s all done
Pa comes to fetch me saying come along son
The mutt is so hungry and wants to be fed
it chews up my homework - I wish it was dead!
I’m hopping with rage, I’m crying out loud
there’s such a commotion I draw quite a crowd
I’ve no time to re write it so I know my fate
I'll get a detention, homework cannot be late
My strict history teacher is called Mister Gorey
and he will not believe my shaggy dog story
But my story is true, yes it’s totally factual -
my homework WAS eaten by our flaming Pterodactyl
* A shaggy-dog story a long joke that has an intentionally silly or meaningless ending
My homework was eaten by a flaming Pterodactyl
There was this entrée; they called it bean soup
My pet tasted some, then let out a whoop --
Doggone it, I exhaled
As Fido wagged his tail --
While I removed all his stench from the stoop...
Hey! Whoa! Easy there, tiger
Umm, hello? Excuse me...
Just because you're my master
Doesn't mean I have to tolerate this
Doggone it, I'm a Pit Bull!
A king. A man's best friend
Don't you know how vicious I can be?
I deserve more respect!
Stop choking me with the damn leash
Don't you see how mad I look?
Do you even care?
Walk a little slower when you walk
You've got two legs; I've got four
I should be quicker on my feet!
If you keep dragging me along
Tightening this leash around my neck
Before long, you'll be putting up
Yet another "Lost Dog" sign
Shouldn't we talk to Cesar Milan
About our relationship?
My Fido was booked into the vets
To remove his ‘love making’ assets
He was due for an op
Where his ‘bits’ got the chop
No puppies; I’d have no regrets
We arrived near the vet’s surgery
Fido yelped that he needed to wee
He heard another dog bark
Then scampered off to the park
And escaped so far away from me
To cut a long story quite short
Young Fido he could not be caught
It can’t be discounted
That doggy he mounted
I’ll admit I was very distraught!
When Fido responded to heel
His fate at the vets I did seal
He’s quickly sedated
(Poor actions berated)
His stitches will dissolve and heal!
When musing, I shouldn’t get mad
His doggy behaviour was bad
Though Fido was ‘dog gone’
His line continues on
Six puppies, look just like their dad!
Doggone Cat
Domestication’s dormancy- be damned
I’d choose to go outside – not in this sand
I will pass on love and hugs for I am certain
destiny demands I climb the curtain
He lies there floppy eared – slow shaking head
wondering how I live the life I’ve led
I walk the wire fence - to his dismay
snicker at his doubts – for me it’s play
at the sound of tires screech – he shields his eyes
relaxing at the sound of curse filled sighs
only to see me counting – claws to five
then launching to a twenty foot swan dive.
On occasion I’ll take a little nip
a dance around the room – a private trip
then throw a “hissy-fit” – attack the couch
he lies in slobbering slumber – what a slouch.
I tempt the “Kitty’s Fate” by counting coup
on passing dogs who seek an outdoor loo
engender quite the howling – ‘coup de grass”
landing leash bound walkers on their ass.
As moonlight throws her shadow on the moor
I listen to the loathsome beast’s dull snore
curl beside his warmth upon the floor
add to the snoring hum a slumbering purr.
Doggone
This is going to be an odd song
I just stopped on a path above the strangest frog pond
The scent of the bogs strong
But the draw coming within is causing me to feel beyond fond
Even though they all say to stay away, and that going against a gods wrong
I told them all, well then it will be not long
Nowadays is a tumor rare?
Don't even try to find any humor there
Some of the spread rumors scare
While others begin to lose their hair
It's easy to speculate from a computer chair
But you don't want to spend your whole entire future there
Because at that rate you will maneuver where?
Why should I try to lie?
We didn't always see eye to eye
Because for a while I would leave others high and dry
Even if they would cry and sigh and die inside
But it was wrong, in this life of mine
I'll get it right this time
