A joyous tiding on this hallowed night:
That for our sake, a virgin would conceive.
The Child would promise everlasting light
To all who in His saving love believe,
And for our sin we may no longer grieve.
Among the beasts was born this infant King
As choirs of angels came to dance and sing.
The shepherds marveled, the wise men rejoiced
And praised the Lord for the good He would bring
As all of creation joined with its voice.
Cars are bustlin’ and people are hustlin’,
The avenues are backed up with shoppers
Last minute hunters are getting frantic,
Christmas Eve comes on Friday of this week
One must come prepared for all the panic,
As Impulse buying is on the increase
With buyers getting more and more frantic,
The hubbub will last for another week
The helter-skelter probably won’t stop
And, I’m not going to last-minute shop!

with the rhyme for a traditional dizain]
~Patois of Yuletide in Yellow~
Yellow sings solos in soft folds of nativity
Satin strands of a radiant star’s light
Creation swaddled in clarity
Naked joy leaps up in golden delight
While hues of holy optimism flood night
Through the colorless stillborn manger ploy
Ecstatic shades of amber evoke joy
Gold rays serenade prophecy now seen
All creation in citrine mantles deploy
Glory’s color, yellow, in dazzling streams.
Yellow ribbons weave through angelic song,
Enfold night in warm threads of a bronze day
No jaundiced joy dims this heavenly throng
Nor drapes king’s eyes from far and from away,
To reveal a starlit path – to show the way -
Glowing lanterns seek the source of glory
Anointing redemption for Eden’s story
Heralds yuletide gold glory from above,
Glows in brilliance like fire forged offertory,
Yellow exalts the purest aura - love.

For My Mother
You are the Thanksgiving bounty to bless
The angel on our Christmas tree
You are summer flowers and winter nests
Birthdays and anniversaries
Handwritten thank you cards and recipes
In despair's cold, your warmth is shown
As the lighted pathway bringing us home
Out of a darkly weary day
You're more love than can fit in a poem
But I'm gonna try, anyway

Here in the north, we have snow on the ground.
The leaves are all gone, but the birds still sing.
This season lends change with beauty abound,
snow angels take shape and tidings we bring.
Children make snowballs and give them a fling,
they hide in the banks and take careful aim.
Hearths keep us warm with their beautiful flame,
hot cocoa is served with family here.
May peace find your home, we pray in his name.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Close Encounters of the Best Kind
Anon celebrations plumb us adjusts,
preceding months were more compatible,
familial presence friends superfluous,
plain chat wheedles a bit less fragmental,
pooled consciousness markup valuable,
fruitful homily affect harmony,
ripes present blooms extended courtesy,
besieged turkey banquet crowds Christmas trees,
stanch observance occasions normalcy,
camaraderie and oneness appease.
Tis the choice of annuals hails bonus,
each control themselves appropriately,
contrasts ne'er build or they'd be a Jonas,
dovetail twirls a sensitive filigree,
our kindred tree naught a Genesis tree,
naught muddled rundowns so microscopic,
yarns curled scripts that were kaleidoscopic,
ensnared eyes courteous ears learn the spiels,
showpiece manifest substantive topic,
closing in prayer banks where heaven deals.

Days are much shorter when autumn appears
The warm sun drifting lower in the sky,
Children are happy as Christmas time nears
Thanksgiving brings visions of pumpkin pie.
Let’s not forget October’s Halloween nigh
Happiness reigns even through the cold months
Especially the football season’s punts,
Wrapped up in warm blankets for the home game
Or in camouflage in the woods for hunts,
Each year fans of the season feel the same.

Life - a mere whisper in eternity
Bitter taste tonight of melancholy
Dew on rose petals leaving me thirsty
For nostalgic notes of music folly
And tender dreams under Christmas holly
When feelings run as deep - love does not die
‘Tis no more than a momentary goodbye
As love for you flutters in afterlife
On beautiful wings of a butterfly
In the mystical garden of your life

How I loved it at the Yuletide season -
the winter of my youth so long ago.
A Christmas vacation was the reason!
We’d bundle up and slide down hills of snow.
On Christmas morning, faces all aglow,
we’d run downstairs so gleefully to see
the presents Santa left beneath the tree.
Now on snow I DRIVE, hating it! No thrill
do I have when there’s less of family.
My winter - with each year - grows dimmer still!
