Glints flashing, gloss on dew washed dawns
as sun dances in glowing flames
soft flow of light like graceful swans
autumn mist swells, playing her games
as sun dances in glowing flames
kindness prepares the voice of grace
autumn mist swells, playing her games
easing heartbreak time can’t erase
kindness prepares the voice of grace
secret faith mends melancholy
easing heartbreak time can’t erase
raising moods who’re creepy-crawly
secret faith mends melancholy
autumn stirs some semblance of hope
raising moods who’re creepy-crawly
pouring out love so hearts still cope
autumn stirs some semblance of hope
psalms of praise, written by bright leaves
pouring out love so hearts still cope
consider the season who greaves
psalms of praise, written by bright leaves
soft flow of light like graceful swans
consider the season who greaves
Glints flashing, gloss on dew washed dawns

Descending on this night, a foul
darkness falls like the Reaper's cowl.
And shadows conceal the undead,
instilling the living with dread.
On Halloween, demons roam free,
while ghosts go on a haunting spree.
And ghouls claw their way out of graves
as walking dead and zombie slaves.
As their silhouettes stalk the gloom,
black cats and witches share a broom.
And while vampires morph into bats,
Jack-o'-lanterns get gnawed by rats.
Werewolves howl, snarl, yelp, and grunt,
evil's on the prowl, on the hunt.
And Hell opens on unhallowed ground,
where creepy crawly things abound.

BUTTERFLY IN TUTU
Butterfly in tutu, deliriously delusional, bright
with spangles, tapping her wings. All knew
she was cocky with glorified golden teeth.
She followed the cockamamie caterpillar
with his root-tootie-toot-toot flute. Thoughts
of mopping up this contest after that
creepy-crawly performance. Her tutu, in
and out, in and out. Her wings of grace
up and down, up and down impeccable.
but the Operettes were up next - they were stars!
Dusk dimmed butterfly’s oscaring, dark
and darker, the glare of stars fell. The iridescent
tutu turned black, she stubbed her wings,
she spun out and crashed, and the audience
laughed……………………instead of hiding
she took a bow

.... crawl across
the garden path covered with moss.
Creepy-crawly, completely black.
They dash off there and soon are back.
I was intrigued. Then during night,
from a deep sleep I woke in fright,
for I was trapped in dreadful dream,
in which I was Formica queen.
I woke this morn, saw things amiss.
It was my metamorphosis.
Now I've abdomen and thorax
where my head and six legs attach.
I live in a dark earthy mound,
in secret cell, all day confined,
where there it is my task to lay
Formica rufa eggs all day.

Afraid of dying… He holds the keys to heaven
Afraid of losing – a job, a home, a heart…
Remember He is always with you, comforting,
Reassuring and reminding you of your blessings
Afraid of creepy, crawly creatures… His rest
Calms and caresses the soul who knows Him
Afraid of fire and hell – salvation lifts the heart
Afraid of the dark – remember He is the light
Brighter than the noonday sun in the heat of the day
Afraid of blindness, living in pain, being in agony…
Remember He comforts the heart in distress
And gives support in old age, to the end of the age
Afraid? – Remember He is there with you
Always kind, reassuring and edifying
Always a light to guide you through the night
Brighter than any star gleaming quietly
And stronger than any sun in hues of silent dreams
Afraid? – Listen Up! He is there, no farther away
Than a simple prayer – asking for His grace – through faith
Afraid?... He is the way!

I step outside to gaze up at the sky
Day by day different clouds float by
Some puffy, some wispy, others gray or white
Some set with the sun at dusk
Others stay out the whole summer night
On my block, a remarkable variety of trees
Maples, oaks, elms, evergreens my eye sees
Some older, some younger, others sturdy or frail
Each one with a story, with his very own tale.
Beneath me are grasses, herbs, weeds, vegetation
Creepy crawly bugs and insects, marvels of creation
Indoors may well be a kingly palace of comfort and ease
My home is outdoors, midst fresh air's gentle breeze

I’m a goofy guy and I like to eat bugs
Creepy, crawly, I think they are just so ugs
They live in corners and underneath my bed
I think they are gone but they are all up in my head
They drive me nuts and keep me up at night
I cover up because they always put up a fight
They sleep all day and come out every night
They don’t eat my food, but I still lose my appetite
The big ones are so big and nasty
When I catch them, sometimes they are so tasty
Some nights we all have ourselves a party
Wake up hung over, now they are so ugly
On the wall, just want to run, stupid little bug
Sometimes I think I just need a hug
Stupid bugs

...and the pot of chili
simmered as the clouds
parted slightly settling
upon the bright darkness
of the sky...
a table with a bowl
of oyster crackers
in front of a bowl
of life-like leaves
and well-crafted
assortment of fruit
near and distant sounds
float in and out windows
and a partially opened
and chained front door
no trick-or-treaters on
this night just sounds
of life undernearth the
glow of an October moon
illuminating nearby clouds
...and a chilly breeze several
degrees below average whip
past houses, cars, and plants
forgotten outside
there is no face in
the moon, there is
light and promises
of a lovely night...
cars park in front
of this house and
a few people show
up at the front door
with breads, drinks,
and desserts...
they gather together
and there are no howls
against the winds
or creepy crawly
things of fright and
mischievous fun
Halloween...
near and distant sounds
of life, of night, and an
October moon...

Yucky, icky,
Creepy, crawly, nasty,
Scuzzy, slimy, oozy, therefore,
Many!

Fear is a strong feeling for me, an emotion I despise
It is sometimes debilitating to me at times, I have surmised
Spiders, heights, creepy crawly bugs, diseases I may get
I am fearful of failure, not giving my all, having regrets
I fear being alone, dying alone, wasting away in a nursing home
I fear the afterlife and ponder if I will go to another realm to roam

Subtle Changes
Ever notice the subtle changes,
A liver spot, a dry patch,
A sneeze with a new resonance;
A sentence with a throat catch.
I think it began at fifty two,
When a foot gave out to pain,
The doctor said “arthritis,” dear,
And bone thinning began to gain;
Then the chestnut hair waxed dull,
A year or two after that;
And glasses weren’t worn for style,
But to counteract “what’s that?”
Little things, always the little things,
Creepy crawly subtle things,
‘Til years pile up with shakiness,
And our worlds are one of quakiness.
Then for once, for once, you understand,
The peace of resting, being still,
And that’s when He speaks His loudest;
“I am here, not subtle, but real.
