A Cowgirl Momma, Carved by Faith

The nights get cold on that prairie land,
But she don’t break—she takes God’s hand.
With a baby girl tucked close at night,
She leans on faith when there’s no end in sight.

She’s patched old jeans, gone weeks on beans,
Fought silent storms no one sees.
But through each trial, tear, and test,
She trusts the Lord will handle the rest.

Times Change

Dusty little towns
West of the Great Divide
Where great-grandchildren of cowboys
On ranches still reside.

Small western museums
With local antiquities inside; 
Native American artifacts, 
Some horse tack for a cowboy's ride.

There among the fancy
Are two dresses hemmed above the knee,
20's Jazz Age fashion
Worn far from the speak-easy.

Caused a bit of an uproar,
As they danced on the sawdust floor.
Who

The Cowgirl

Like her folks
She smokes
Rough shirts 
On Jean skirts 
Though a chiller
She looks a killer
Her mushroom-cat
Is half-eaten by a rat
No mosquito hurts her 
In her presence I'm in stir
Why this sadness on her face?
Did she fail in any competition race?
Do not be worried, O, my strong little girl.
Don’t leaves and flowers in winter wind furl?

Cher Fair Queen

her face is chiseled but not hard like her father’s
Cher wears a black Stetson with a silver band
is she smoking? Is that allowed in this bar?
I note her makeup, put on by an expert hand

Has she a fashion consultant?
Because she never looked this gorgeous before
I hear she is running for fair queen
She has my vote

The Prettist Cowgirl Anyone Had Seen

She was a sweet child born in Soyhern Texas
Some time in 73
Her Moma was from Alabama
Her Poppy from New Orleans 
A cheerleader and local beauty at 17 
Some folk say around here
She was the prettiest girl they'd ever seen
And she knew it
And with a smile and a certain look
She could get anything
She'd need
And she played

My Cowgirl

Stanza #1.

I want to be a cowboy
And see the open range.
I want to meet a cowgirl
Whose values are the same?
We'll raise some little cowpokes
And give them old folks names.
I want to meet my cowgirl
So we can ride on the range.

Fancy Dancy Unicorn Friendly Cowgirl Boots

Fancy dancy unicorn friendly cowgirl boots
Stomping tromping riding along on shoots
With glitz and spritz and things that make me smile
Kicking and tricking up things on this country mile
I see you coming and I laugh at the things you do.
All feminine and girly, showing up every ballet shoe.

The Dance

The world is filled with some fancy dancers
who'll come a prancing through your bedroom door
They'll do a pretty good job of makin’
you think they're spot on what you're lookin’ for

But they'll hem and haw and skirt the edges
never quite proving what they claim to be
They’ll never give you any straight answers
when you tell ‘em just

Pitching a leg across the nether
Of a pretty appaloosa or possibly
A chestnut bay who needs to know
That she’s being ridden by someone
Who will take her through the paces,
Strides both gentle and regulated
By a walk, a canter, a gallop, a sprint
Where she feels all her steps
Light, loose and limber as liquid love
That rains down from a

Cookie Cowgirl of the West

Cookie decided to become the cowgirl queen of the west
She bought the boots, spurs, chaps, and all the rest.
Have you ever been to a rodeo? The judges ask her.
Do you know about sheep, cattle, or even manure?

She thought they were hilarious. In these virgin boots?
She barely wore them outside. These men gave her the hoots.

Wearing her pointy-toed cowboy boots,
She delights in darkest stormy weather
And banging sounds her fast six-shooter shoots;

But hurt her and she just barely whimpers,
She is a lovely cowgirl through and through
Best to flee fast if rousing her temper
For she may stomp and beat

Didn’t think, I’ll be pitching bales of hay
Living the cowgirl way was a rough ride
Didn’t realize I had to skin rawhide
I was raised a country girl myself
But my skills had sat on a shelf
