"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." — Jacques Cousteau

It was an early summer morning at the desolate beach
Seagulls soared over the water searching for crabs within reach
The waves gently crashed ashore and left ocean treasures to find,
sea glass, star fish, urchins and other ocean debris of some kind

I sat on my beach blanket sipping the hot coffee I brought along
And sat in peace and enjoyed the peaceful solitude, it won’t last long
I saw something sparkling in the sand as it washed up in the salty foam
I decided to try to pick it up as I love bringing sea treasures home

It was a beautiful diamond ring in a setting with a carat heart stone
I drove to the nearest store in hopes of finding out what may be known
As I entered, I saw a sad woman posting signs for any diamond rings found
I gave her ring back, she thanked me and I said the ocean can be profound

"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." ~ Jacques-Yves Cousteau

When Cupid’s wishes surf on the tail of a comet,
eventide envelops the tender skyline in stillness,
mirroring sparks of neon stardust on the shore.
Stroking the salt-laced sand in silken rhythm,
while hushed leaves surrender to the sea’s songs,
curating a silent reverie of drifting dreamers,
filling the amethyst air with indigo blooms,
as wind and waves merge, echoing secrets~
like heartbeats aching for a kiss of moonbeams,
amidst fluorescent tides twinkling in tune,
erasing tears in the blush of forgotten sunsets.

Premium Member DAILY GRATITUDE THE OCEAN AND JACQUES COUSTEAU

Today I’m grateful for the ocean
the way it ebbs and flows…
There is no one who can express this better
than than the oceanographer Jacques Cousteau

(I imagine I wold have written these words
if I was a bit more clever)

The sea, once it casts its spell
holds one in it’s net of wonder
forever

Premium Member Round Valley Reservoir

Let’s go visit the Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey someone said.
The place where many missing boaters are found enormously dead.
Twenty-six people have disappeared in the lake, according to the masses.
One body floated out four years later, and this guy was wearing his glasses.

It’s the weirdest place according to Jacques Cousteau, who took his sub out.
A terrific place to bring a rod and reel and catch a wide mouthed trout.
It will be fun! Let’s go! The bodies of six men have never been found.
Frankly I say, if one comes up, I would not rather be around.

The reputation of this lake is that if a body appears,
Another will soon replace it, which is one of my fears.
Lights over this reservoir have looked like an alien ship.
Sorry, I tell my cousin. Please count me out of this trip.

To Kill a Mocking Bird

A feared world like a Japanese *macaque,
Terror strikes external, flys the war hawk,
Ricochets Toccata & Fugue by Bach,
As the free world furthers debate and talk,
Astir and toss like in a Chinese wok,
NATO military supplies ad-hoc,
"People protect what they love," -- Cousteau, Jacques,
Ukraine warns hope will run out on the clock,
USA and Russia, the new, **Iraq.

*macaque pronounced; ma-kek, or, ma-kok--I used the latter
**Iraq pronounced; I-rek, or, E-rok--I used the latter

Premium Member Are You Afraid

There is Thoreau in me, for sure.
I could live in the cabin in the woods
Spending my days without hearing a human voice
Or seeing a human footprint in the snow.

Homer and Cousteau reside in me too.
We appreciate the sea, loving the mystery of the deep
my muse and I could easily transmogrify into sirens
entering the world of never be on land again.

There is a wildness in me that wants to spend my life outside
Surrounded by owl, fox, raccoon, opossum, wolf, tiger, lion, bear.
But are you not afraid? Someone asked me.
Not nearly as afraid of them as I am of people, I reply.
