If only you could see
the forest for the trees
it would feel so good
for then as an evergreen
you'd be out of the woods
and if you cared for me
going out on a limb
tho' not on bended knee
I'd ask you to become
a branch of my family
so near and yet so far
you touched me to
the roots of my heart
and as one fir to another
I bough to you
with all it may impart
for yes I too am a conifer
and what's a tree to do
but stand here in the shade
patiently before I wilt away
while I pine for you

Angry Conifers
Trees in the avenue
have a weird sense
of humor
Long roots cracking up
finely laid cobble stone
pavement
Slightly bent easterly
give pain in the lower
trunk
The younger trees
bleat about older trees
taking space
Older trees show
distain of needy trees
no dignity
Trees are silent
lack imparting skills
shake leaves

Forests of Green Coniferous Trees
Forests of evergreen conifers
(Fir, spruce, cedar, pine, and hemlock trees)
Keep their colour throughout the seasons
And don’t shed foliage in autumn.
Rooted in soil and basking in sunlight,
They grow on hillsides and in valleys,
Encircling rock outcrops, swamps, and leas,
And near rivers and lakes, and on islands.
These hearty trees endure nature’s throes
Of cold, harsh, winters to warm spring thaws,
Thriving in summer and fall to help provide
A habitat for the forest dwellers.
Conifer pollen and seed cones pollinate,
And fertilized seeds disperse on windy days
—Or get stashed away by squirrels and birds—
And grow into stately coniferous trees.

Junco in winter
flies on grass tip, rides on field
to pick fallen seeds,
prefers in taking shelter
roosting on conifer tree.

the silver birch
it likes to hide
so as you search
at eventide
you find it there with many friends
playing poker through the night
the common oak
a wise old man
an aging folk
since time began
grandfathers of the forest they
speak myth and folklore when they can
the sycamore
with helicopter seeds
sets out its store
among the weeds
then grows to be big and strong
from people’s picnics on which it feeds
the horse chestnut
is the conker tree
the children’s favourite
but too spikey
until they are ready later on
and why kids were late home for tea
the yew
is old
and grew
so slow
its age is in millennia
and battles from the archer’s bow
the hawthorn
its blossom white
and at dawn
as if it snowed all night
then all too soon the white has gone
a desperate case of bad stage fright
the conifer
fir, spruce and pine
a regular
likes mead and wine
to keep it warm in winter then
comes into homes at Christmas time

A Conifer
A
Blue Spruce
Born from a cone
Green leaves shaped like needles
Inhale deep draughts carbon dioxide
Provide places for wrens and chickadees to hide
Sticky sap exuded from the bark leaves a fragrant scent
Cones fall to the ground, the seeds of the next generation
Brown branches support long strands of twinkling Christmas lights
Gnarled
Trunk
With
Bony
Fingers
Of
Roots

At the day end when dark rules,
Sounds become a rare act.
Beauty of day is concealed,
when the night charmer wrapped.
In the hour of darkness,
for an astounding night grope.
When Visible became invisible,
The moon is the glimmer of hope.
Alone sitting by the waterway
Looking at the starry sky.
Ground stars greaming
in a conifer full of fireflies.
A breeze pass time to time
encompasses with moisture.
This span of time is alluring,
as it is a freebie by nature.
Dead of night is dead and trifling
For the people deep in slumber.
In the habbit of daily indolence
Don't miss the night wonder.
Give contenment to your heart
Unleash yourself and sit alone.
Not a soul to disturb you
There is no known or unknown.

Inside the forestry of his heart I live
inhaling the scent of his deep woods
I could never fill those Timberlands boots
nor explain the thrill that he provides
when he arrives at the grove of my soul
and whispers, "Darling, I love you "
softly cloaked and protected by his pine
I am evergreen in moments like these
Existing in this charming jungle of love
I could never retrace my steps, for
arriving in this place of no return
I feel as suitable as a thriving conifer
Inside this evergreen existence, I just am
breathing in the fragrance of his loyalty
I feel like a woman in love, ...
After a lifetime of bending, to his will
I am the wind that blows on his heart
when I get to him, I just breathe...

In the mists of the giant bark beneath
rise old growth saplings out of crag and earth,
where tumbles an ancient evergreen leaf
from that marvel of great and splendid girth.
That footing seed, that pod, that budding shoot
to spread its shedding crown in fulsome yield,
when ringed trunk buttressed by conifer root
in furrowed skin wraps its tubular shield.
High on sky perch over forest thickets
the sylvan canopy the clouds do climb -
to fell, to log, to mill into pickets
and trusses tempers not this heart of mine.
It does me good (those sap bathed arms bended)
to see your mighty scaffold extended.

Embracing the countryside
Made some ecstatic and glee
But one feature in particular
Was that old coniferous tree
‘Conifer,’ a Latin word
Means one that bears a cone
But did Nero study the outdoors
When he was in charge of Rome?
One Emperor’s word against another
The other, Mother Nature
A lovely scene along the hills
Was better than portraiture
The gentle breeze juxtaposed against
The needle pinaceae
But with their sheer beauty alone
Would make one want to stay

Your hair smells
of conifer forests
and the Michaelmas summer
that I nurture on my palms.
Winter is looming,
they cut down the trees.

The lake surfaces between mammoth bones.
The valley once was a bowl for giant daisies
and the conifer roots of a deepening sky.
Wind-blown ripples feed the open mouths
of minnows, the small waves shuffle them around
like silver clouds,
more billowing swells fill the red gills of the trout
with a silent ecstasy.
The sunlight is rich with the minuscule bones
of long risen memories
they are a salt-lick on the tongue.
Upon the shoreline,
small stones take the form
of great, restless beasts,
dinosaurs that once trod upon these waters
and now lightly thread through
a needle of timeless air.
