Chipmunks playing chase,
Down at my favorite place,
A reminder of your grace,
When sadness fills the space,
Bringing a smile to my face.
Chipmunks playing chase,
I let my thoughts embrace,
Why they're racing around,
Snickering a squeaky sound,
Smiling at the treasure I found.
Chipmunks playing chase,
Racing across the ground,
A frown turned upside down,
A giggle comes bubbling out,
It's so fun to think about.
Chipmunks playing chase,
My sorrows they erase,
For just a moment,
A gift in my Present,
Thankful for the event,
I watch Chipmunks chase,
Enjoying their Present.

Bright and glowing, attired in gold
Birds sing to me, while bees kiss me,
The butterflies love mien, golden
Chipmunks relish my seeds with glee;
I serenade you in your rainbow garden
Patiently nurturing overbearing bees
Sucking on my nectar even as the bold
Butterflies compete with a certain cool ease;
Bringing glorious sunshine into your tedious life
And soaking in all the irresistible Sun power
Making you smile like a proud florist you've never been
In your garden of love, I’m your alluring Sunflower

they think they are being sneaky
but… their giggling gives them away
the pink begonias are shaking with mirth
I see their silk hats with pretty bows
chipmunks are awesome!

They dressed in the garment of back in the day
Scampered up our walk with a happy hey hey
Are those chipmunks? My husband asked a bit askance.
They surely are, I replied, doing a happiness dance!
What are they doing here? Is he wearing a vest?
I opened the door and said, “Welcome my guests!”
They came in holding their own spoon and a fork.
She introduced to both of us her new husband Mork.
What happened to Ed? I asked, afraid of what she might say.
He was run over by a dump truck a few months ago, Wednesday.
Did they not see him? Did they not slow down? I asked with a snarl.
“It’s okay, we’re in love,” said her new husband Mork McGarl.
We gave grace and then the levity and excitement rapidly began.
These chipmunks ate all our walnut sandwiches out of the pan.
Leave some for the rest of us! Screeched my husband, the man.
We were all relieved when they left in their old broken-down van.

Chippy and Chipper,
playing in my yard;
a hoard of blueberries
surround tiny hole
near my garage door;
Chipper pops out and lightening
dashes for my pear trees...
a pause says, "hello"...
the foraging resumes and
the morning ritual has begun.

As I was sitting on a bench and I was looking at this tree
Down ran a chipmunk, who came to say hello to me
I reached inside my tote bag to see what I could find
To give to Mr. Chipmunk while he sat on his behind
I found a bag of peanuts that would suit him very well
I watched him crack them open as he threw away the shell
Down ran another chipmunk to join in for the feast
But she was very cautious, I guess she thought I was a beast
I said hello to Mrs. Chipmunk as she puckered up her cheeks
But she ate so many peanuts that she really couldn't speak
Down ran baby chipmunk as curious as can be
To join in for the picnic; oh my god, now there are three
After they had eaten they had left some peanut trails
Then they chirped to tell me thank you and they wagged their little tails
I'll see you all tomorrow, I want you all, to please come back
I'll bring some peanut butter if you'd like another snack

Bold and brazen he comes lumbering across my garden paths
determined to sample my tomatoes, squash,
a cucumber, a broccoli, a pepper or even flower.
That solid, chubby interloper.
Unlike the welcomed chipmunk
who comes cautious and timidly
and makes his way through the undergrowth
to steal away the birdseed and fallen fruit.
The chubby, burly groundhog
hurries to his focal point
my tasty fruiting vegetables
and tastes each at his pleasure
but
with a sudden shout from me
and the bark of my attentive companion
the thief is on the run.
He is gone
disappearing under the fence
through the hole he dug
gone to sample someone else's goods

Back and forth, to and fro
Hither and yon then off they go
Up the tree then under the bush
Off scurrying through leaves in a big whoosh
Grabbing a nut picking at sticks
In a game of tag they’d be the first picks
Hurrying all day whether to work or eat
There is seldom a pause they have energy replete
Either tasks or play until the sun has sunk
The forests’ funniest of creatures, the little chipmunk

(This is a fictional poem)
I'm a hillbilly who eats possums, squirrels and Chipmunks too.
Alvin and the Chipmunks came to my house and I turned them into stew.
They were cute and they had charm.
They thought I'd welcome them with open arms.
When they came to my house, it was a stupid thing to do.
Chip and Dale are at my door and I'm going to devour them too.
