Cavities Poems | Examples

The average bird considers it best
to sleep at night inside a nest.
When a squirrel wants to catch some z's,
he uses cavities in trees.
A bat, of course, must play the clown
and slumbers upside down.

Bones

A few articulate with humor and grief,
others are hinged
so that ears can hear each other.

Many bones are scaffolds
for vision, prayer and procreation.

One hollow bone hums in the throat,
it channels the smoky saxophones
of consciousness.

When death comes to nibble holes
into breastplates and ramparts
an osseous honeycomb of memory
forms caves,
cavities for disembodied thoughts.

Mind, of course, has always had
its own immortal bones and marrow,
and so even
the humble bitsy sparrow.

Sounds like Candy

I love you
Sounds like candy
When it rolls off your tongue
So sweet
It's bound to fill my mouth
With cavities

I imagine you talking to me
I go word by word
Visualizing the eye contact
Dreaming of the way
Your voice sounds

I listen to your audio messages
Basking in the bliss
Smiling like the first time I heard them
Euphoric in the way
I can hear your smile
When you speak

I pop your words
Like sugar pills

Darn
Dentist
Dreadful deed
Damned if you do
Dah! Damned if you don’t
Disturbing drill din daunts
Drat! Delectable doughnuts
Digging deep childhood cavities
Done! Drear disposition diminished
Displaying the dazzling disarming smile

Premium MemberYawns

A yawn has caught me by surprise.
   Screwed up my face,
   With mouth opened wide.
See all the cavities and fillings inside.

Momma said," You need a nap!"

   Nothing I could say,
   Would get me away.
   Off to my bed,
   It would appear.
   My once yearly nap,
I might miss something, I fear!

   I'll pretend to sleep,
   Close my eyes,
   Not let out a peep.
   Let out a small snore,
   Before Momma closes the door.
   Then I'll arise,
   Play quietly inside.

   Two hours later,
   Much to my surprise,
I woke up on the floor.
   The yawn defeated me again,
Theres' always tomorrow to fight it off to the end!

The Lost Tooth

she is felt still

a tongue tip
recalls her grave
it speaks tenderly

i had her crowned
yet such a royal regalia
did not suit
her innate modesty

she was a tireless waitress
who served up
treats and sugars
with a candied Mona Lisa smile

a love lost is not rootless
yet it must speak from a hollow filling
the heart of which
turns upon cavities of regret

decades later
i eat
these empty words

yet still enjoy them

Flying across the white expanse
a dull day becomes coloured
with the distant foggy
black marks of flight
opening wings wide
like a murder of beaks
thirsty for the blood
of the ink of others
on their blunt dry nibs,
it ruffles their feathers
colourful for a short while
between the lines
of a vacant pride, the
worthless worthiness
of removing veils
from other brides,
Faust flapping crows
disguised as angels
come calling like
unclaimed friends
from all quarters, then,
curious bluebirds
dissecting their purpose,
discover something
shining and beautiful
found in the dirt
between the cavities
in all their walls,
behind the ugliness,
jewels like Ariadne
(writer not myth)
possessing
the opposite title
held to the mirror -
"he ventures she wins",
are fished out
and discarded
in the swirling ice,
cubed in the depths
of a dark well
like unclaimed
diamonds,
solid gems, waiting
amidst all those other
melting treasures
to be, or not to be,
found

Premium Membercerulean ''blue'' blue bird

a movement catches my eye
a flutter a flash of blue
      &I focus on
the build&beak shape
&wings that say to me
              a blue bird
        but, I look more closely
there is no orange rusty
                   breast?
I get out my trusty bird ID book
no rust on breast?
        color a gorgeous
cerulean blue
              like the sky above
a bit azure a bit ultra marine
     a bit turquoise depending on
the light&shade
it is a mountain blue bird*
                 all blue
they love open woodlands, farm
fields&our backyards
making nests in tree cavities
&fence posts anywhere cozy
  sadly, so do sparrows&starlings
causing a decline of blue birds
but people putting up nest boxes
in their yards
       has created a promising
comeback for this lovely ''blue'' bird
              across the USA&Canada ...
           &then he is gone
flying away ...

Premium MemberNext Door

Next door was a paddock
of long grass and a graveyard
for dumped machinery.
Rusted out boilers, cogs, wheels
and huge presses were piled high
and begged for the sure foot
of a boy to climb and boast
the height.

Strange, twisted shapes
held a pose that seemed to freeze
the agony of being broken apart.
Sinews of wire cable hung
from joints in frayed strands
as if torn out of sockets.
Grease oozed from cracks
like congealed blood.

Nothing seemed to fit
a species familiar to a boy,
each part a mystery as to what
beast it belonged.
There were holes big enough
too fit a head, throated cavities
that harbored unknown echoes
and pipes that would hold
a haunting note when struck
with a stick.

One afternoon on coming home
from school, there was nothing
left but a cleared block.
Everything had been carted away.
A workman told my Mum
that snakes had crawled out
of the place where I used to play.

Dig more holes please!
Deep, hollowed out, cavities
For springtime debunk, revival.

Fallen

swollen fluid-filled cavities bruised blue
broken tendons bones and cartilage too
blacken eyes wide and starry misty dew
sunken chest deflated lungs motionless
upon the yielding ground, thee now rest
no more crying, weeping, bawling
descend ye Lifeless hands fallen

what be thy purpose born to earth
have thee obtained thy due worth
why hast thou days been shortened
thy prayers were heard in earnest often
wayward the wicked deeds of man
wanton is his maiden
beings present since Time began
what image be they made in

Merrys Land

Candescence

Auburn plains spread before me while the sun dips in curtsy to the moon.
Violet hued reds against pastel periwinkles radiate out in a cloud of color amongst the obscuring fog, becoming spirits.

The weeping willow bows in its lonesome and waits for autumn's death driving gaze.
The warm grasp of steaming apples and the cool whisper of winter's arrival blooms moments so unique and so familiar.

Cinders and ash pierce through cavities barren and hallowed by years of sheltering storms.
Proffered supplies of acceptance present problems for denial.
