Premium MemberThe Lost Canary

There was a carney, I knew as Larry.
He lived with a knife thrower, named Sherry.
Sherry loved her yellow canary,
and trusted its care while gone to Barry.

While she was gone, the bird somehow got free.
He looked everywhere, where could that bird be?
His eyes looked up as he dropped to one knee,
and prayed for help to find the canary.

“I’m headed home”, was the text from Sherry.
The thoughts of her rage were very scary.
He turned to see a smile, she seemed merry,
from off his hat, she took her canary.

Nature presents canary tweet
Sweet rhythm greets with hopeful beat
Cheering God's grace* now
For sure, it’s a wow…
Midst melody of freedom treat.

*1 Peter 5:10 - But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Yellow Words—Used 10 times in the poem

Under the warm yellow sun
floating on the calm Yellow Sea
fishing for the sweet tasting yellow fin tuna.
My mouth waters at the thought of
tuna steaks slathered in spicy yellow mustard
while my old yellow lab snoozing on
my bright yellow rain slicker will have his share covered
in a yellow egg yolk sauce.
I tie the yellow lure to the leader anticipating
a rugged fight with the ferocious tuna.
A wayward yellow canary, blown to sea by the wind,
lands on my cabin roof. Perhaps I will have good luck.
I wear my yellow tinted sunglasses and look to starboard as
I prepare to stalk the elusive tuna.

My sweet Canary

My sweet canary just loves to sing,
with his yellow beak and golden wing.
His lovely songs will make you shake,
all other tunes will sound a fake.
But as I sit and think alone,
I feel my heart is made of stone.
My precious bird could be my sin,
I keep his soul well locked within.
For every soul is born so free,
I doubt your mind will disagree.

Premium MemberTIMES ARE A CHANGING

May, June, July, new Presidents and Prime
Ministers elected world-wide,
Politicians, crossing the floor, patronizing
The other side,
Finally striving for what we all hope,
Peace and unity,
But the yellow canary haired man has for
Years acted with impunity.
Could a Utopia exist in these
Chaotic times.
Kamala is hot on his heels for in two months
All will be said and done,
Will democracy hear the bells chime,
As the poll numbers rise which would
Be first prize,
As Humpty Dumpty loses his
Landslide win,
And Democracy walks away with
A grin,
As the aged wann-a-be President’s
Predictions wear thin.
OR
Will this man actually come to pass,
Destiny is in the making,
Winner takes and will have a worldwide
Platform for the taking,
The East it seems have with him
Become somewhat chummy,
Quite a risk don’t you think, but all will
Soon be revealed honey.

Last Canary

Dying in the coal mine ...
 a Poet saw it first
His warning prescient
prenotion strong
To those who listen
to those who hear
The end beginning
— all swans in song

Premium MemberA Canary and Cat Tale

A clever, caged yellow canary
tricked his foe, a cat big and scary.
He flew out with some luck.
Cat walked in and got stuck.
Silly cat should have been more wary.

Cagey Canary

Yellow Canary on top of a cage
Rests in hush as it turns another page
From wild slip, it is carefree
Silence is a sight to see
Deep, it thinks that the cat is its hostage

Premium MemberCagey Canary Cat Caught

You love to chase the old cow,
and make the kitten go meow,
I have put you in your place,
now no one left to chase.
I got you~let me take a bow.

UH-OH—SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG!
SO NOW I'M SUPPOSED TO BURST INTO SONG?
I'LL TEACH THAT BIRD A NOTE
JUST LET ME AT HIS THROAT
THEN I'LL SING DINNER MUSIC ALL DAY LONG!

The canary sat atop his cage,
And thought to himself, I got you Paige!
While Paige sat trapped in tight,
Thinking about the fight,
And plotting to kill in angry rage.

My canary keeps a pet cat;
that used to be sat on a mat,
but now it is caged
and slightly enraged;
to the bird, it’s just tit for tat!

The house cat unlatched the cage door;

Squeezed in to then find he's done for.

A quick turn-about

Canary flew out!

Cat's stuck, and bird's free to explore!

Tom thought in his nine lives he saw it all,
He languorously preyed on weak and small,
Times change, tweet they,
Tom’s now the prey -
His predator triumphantly stands tall.
