Mine mother had 3 sisters and 1 brother
All of em’ had married young
Not because they hada
All of em’ had more than 3 children
Cept mine mama she had only 2
Mama N tem’
Cook ta gether
Mama N tem’
Wore them girdles wit the clasp
Mama N tem’
As children took ole creek baths
Mama N tem’
Made homemade cornbread and gravy
Soups and canned veggies, fruits, and meats
Baked apple pies N peach cobbler
And placed them on the window sills
OH! WOW still smell the aroma
All of em knew how to sew
And when they when out on the down boy did they glow
Dressed to the nine’s even past tens
Walk past all types of men’s
Better not cross Mama N tem’
They could be in the garage, you’ld be in the living room
They could hear a pin, a bobby-pin drop
Yeah! Even some of them as girls tended crops
A displenarian they would woop that butt
You be cryin they tell ya, to shut up
Now mama N tem’ would say their prayers
While combing, braidN, washN your hair
B on the porch watch ya walk to school
No one better bother her child, don’t be no fool
My mama knew ya mama betcha’ they do?

I woke up on the floor again this morning,
Remembered what it was had laid me low.
That hardwood wasn’t meant to be a mattress,
But ever since she left I’ve made it so.
I curse the brutal honesty of sunrise
That filters through the curtains of my room
Illuminating bobby pin reminders
And pillowcases wearing her perfume.
This door is one I’ll never want to open.
I just might let my hammer nail it shut;
She left the closet full of empty hangers,
That do a nasty number on my gut.
Here she was; where’s she gone?
Restless spirit movin’ on.
Ramblin’ Rose from dusk till dawn.
Here she was; where’s she gone?

Slipped through my finger my diamond ring
Down the drain it went so I got out some string
I attaching a bobby pin then coiled it like a box spring
Lowering it down gently but the phone started to ring
I went to answer it and cling clang there went the bobby pin
Down the drain next to my diamond ring pang ping
I lost my ring and bobby pin attached to the string
While running to the phone I sprained my hamstring
What a day I have had all and for nothing,
Now tears like rain for a lost diamond ring

ANTIQUE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT
An old-fashioned bell that Grandmother send.
Her last old antique Christmas ornament.
Rounded bell, with recessed grooves,
so out-dated, yet still to use.
Place me high upon your tree.
Hang me low for all to see.
So those who come can appreciate me.
I thought you'd toss me out of sight
when your children unwrapped me
that Christmas night.
But with a caring touch,
a tiny bobby pin,
you attached to my top
like a chosen friend.
Each Christmas I held you in my hand
you transported me to another land,
where Grandmother lives
and Grandmother smiles.
Then I remembered you
as I did as a child.
Gingerbread men with candy canes,
forgotten stories with old family names.
Grandmother's thoughts are now from above.
More important than things,
for she left them with love.

I was studying in the library where
the solitude almost lulled me to sleep,
when out of the blue heard
a quaint noise that startled me,
Curious I got up from my seat
and started looking around,
replaying the noise I had heard
of the ping, poing metal sound,
Something had fallen or dropped
off a table or shelf,
something that sounded metallic
and nothing else…
I knew it would be in the
vicinity of my table close by,
because the noise was earth shattering,
considering the atmosphere morgue like and shy,
Thats when I stopped and looked down at the floor
and spied an object glistening very small,
next to the the librarians feet whose hair was in a untidy bun,
was her lone bobby pin that shone from the window paned sun.

The dress is zipped, the veil is in
One last touch up and dry my tears
Another bobby pin
I need you here to calm my fears
But here I stand feeling all alone
Looking up at heaven
Wishing I could bring you home
Waiting for the clock to strike seven
Here comes grandpa to take you place
He happily stands by my side
But I know he sees the hurt on my face
He tells me I’m such a beautiful bride
What a bitter sweet day
Now I’m ready to go
I take a moment and pray
Just to say “Hello”
Now down the aisle I walk
I see Joel’s face
Walking into wedlock
I feel such a warming embrace
Now I know though I didn’t that day
You weren’t missing a thing
That I’m confident enough to say
I believe this was a heaven sent blessing
For when I was looking later
In one certain photo
There is was, it couldn’t be clearer
A cross with such a beautiful glow
Then I knew I wasn’t alone
My prayer had been answered
And you came back home

She entered the class...
All was loud...
She stepped into the class...
The class was out of sound...
Today, discipline has been found...
Today, the drop of a bobby pin didn't dare to make a sound...
Lights turned on...
Silence exhibited at dawn...
She entered the class...
All was loud...
She stepped into the class...
The class was out of sound...
A force field attracted all eyes....
All the heads turned around...
Light projected from up high...
A slide was displayed...
She entered the class...
All was loud...
She stepped into the class...
The class was out of sound...
Silence is her key...
A clear voice is her tune...
Attention is all she needs...
What she says becomes immune...
She entered the class...
All was loud...
She stepped into the class...
The class was out of sound...
Now that all is quiet...
A lesson presents its slide shows...
All become silent...
No one dares to move their shadows...

the ground is littered with bobby pin birds
shot from your fingers like lightning
straight at my chest
i'm hit! god help me i'm going down
falling ever faster into the sea of green
your eyes, your eyes, your eyes
falling into this world of locked cars and christmas lights
spooky chains and hangovers
promises kept and a place i belong
and i cannot stop myself
i put my arms out to slow the decent
prolong the impact
but they find nothing but you
and i'm hit once again
steel fingers to my side that scream
"i love you"
and i know it's true
i never want to remember life without you by my side
