Best Video Games Poems
There was a loud explosion, followed by shouts of glee
The rat-a-tat-tat of gunshot, was suddenly surrounding me
It was much to my horror that my husband bought the game
And to watch my boys playing it, nearly drove me insane.
They blew things up, they shot at them, and they loved every shot
“But it will warp their minds” I said, my husband said “It will not.”
He promised he would sit with them, but that’s cos he wanted to play
And he said he could drum into them that it is just a game that day.
I peered round the doorway, I watched him guide them through
They cheered, and laughed at gruesome bits, my husband cringed a bit too
But as they grew they learned, but I know this is not true of all
Mine are both big wimps, and even husband on seeing blood will fall.
They cannot stand needles, a paper cut makes them cry
They cannot watch the news, when there is death and destruction awry
So in all honesty I don’t agree with violence in video games at all
But I think it’s up to the parents to make the final call.
Children in days of old, shot each other with a home made stick gun
They made swords out of anything, and always fought to the death in fun.
Play has changed they are safer inside, the trouble now I think this is it
Is when they are left to their own devices and the videos are used just to baby-sit.

I was playing my Nintendo
controller in my hand
I guess I dozed off
to Mario Kart land
It was Donkey Kong Stadium
I was in the lead
no one could catch me
as I reached maximum speed
Approaching the finish line
I heard a thundering squreech
slamming into the back of me
was my opponent peach
Everything went dark
and when I opened my eyes
I had fallen off my bed
only a dream to my surprise.
Eyes glued to screen
Ignore homework of teacher
Down load video game
Some rich becomes a tycoon

For the Video Game Played contest of Yasmin Khan
I’m over it like jump rope
I look back on my life, what do I see,
a life time wasted playing video games.
What I didn't know then, I can understand now,
living a false sense of fulfillment because I lacked satisfaction in myself.
What started as fun and games ended up a place for to me hide,
within the world gaming it felt like was accomplishing something with my life,
countless nights of broken sleeps, still seeing games when I closed my eyes,
all they really gave me was a sore head, and blurry eye's.

If you wan't to take it a bit deeper,
psychologically I mean,
the three main reason I play so long were:
Control, lack of fulfillment and anxiety.
Control was something I never had, In the games I did,
they also gave me the fulfillment I was lacking in the life that I lived,
anxiety is what pushed me to the games, within them I could hide,
this is why I stay addicted, addicted for a life time.
Me and video games, Yeah we been round the block,
I just shake me head now, O.M.G what a waste of time that was,
I don't play games often now, maybe twice a month I guess,
I just decided to find better things to do with myself.

Video games are popular I admit
People of different age level played it
It’s an interesting game that everybody love
But not for me, I feel so sad
I know it’s an enjoyable pastime
You can forget you problems for awhile
But there are many disadvantages if you can see
Especially my students who are lazy to study
Their parents think they are in school
But they make them think like a fool
The money given for their everyday allowances
They spent it at the internet cafe and forgot their studies
Here comes the issuance of the report card
The parents saw the grades and became mad
The students blamed the exam because it’s so hard
Just to hide the fact that video games make them bad
For me it can promote violence for the young
All I wish are the family members act like a guardian
They can play video games as much as they can
As long as they will promise to be a responsible daughter and son

4th Place Winner
NOTE:
I know the maximum lines are 15 but I try my luck....win or lose its okay as long as I explained the effects of video games in the minds of the children. Thanks for reading :)
Are they tame?
Our children who were sweet
Become anxious,
Stressed,
Obnoxious,
Controlled,
And upset
When they can't figure out the next frame.
They'll throw controllers, yell
And kick things as if under a spell.
In a blur they'll go to the internet
Looking for cheats
That let
Them beat
The boss to prove their fame.
God help the person who should delete
Or maim
An unfinished video game.
No one dare touches for everyone knows their
LIFE will be over if anyone should mutter a name.

Video Games
My children were reared on video games
Not my choice I know, but I take the blame
The hours they spent on a computer screen
Sent spears through my heart and caused me to scream
A necessary evil, my husband did say
They can learn from these things that they want to play...
How can that be, its nothing but blood and gore
His answer, I don’t know what you are looking at but try it some more
The games that they played were frivolous and fun
Not the one that I heard of that annihilate everyone.
No that came as the boys grew in their understanding
And hid them away in the blanket box on the landing.
By now though our boys are well rounded men
When road kill is on the road they won’t look at them
They are sissy’s with blood of any and all kind
They know the difference in a game and real human kind.
They have mastered parts of foreign languages
By playing on line with all races and ages.
Their knowledge is far more than they learnt in school
So I am not so afraid now of technologies new tools

Video game kill
Normalize for battle?
When one begins
and picks up the controller
he hopes he wins
but most become bipolar.
they think they are the best
they hope and pray,
that they are better then the rest
but most are in disarray.
they continue for hours
doing nothing but staring
but what it does is devours
while they sit there swearing.

Just reminiscing...
dead on the inside rotten one the outside
should go and hide but hindered by my pride
try to be unique but treated like a leper
standing tall but crumbling under pressure
take a look and you’ll see its a charade
marching like pro lifers at a pro choice parade
in the midst of something you don’t understand
watching and waiting for that elusive master plan
life is a gift that you should not be missing
but have you ever heard of re gifting?
all lives are equal! what a useless joke
search for that truth through the deceptive smoke
I’m not one to criticize what I don’t understand
or to preach about putting it to the man
that chapters over we know we cant win
but is wanting something better really a sin?
I write poems about what I feel or know
this ones my heart despite the freak show
aim for something better but to slow on the draw
work for what you want. guess what my hands are raw
I’m still homeless, jobless, and trying to persevere regardless
things look up and then you get hit the hardest
this isn’t a complaint or a plea for help
I don’t want anyone I’m better by myself
trust in those who are closest to you
I looked for help and instead got pushed through
I’m done with this poem and I’m sure you are too
just remember the only person there for you is you
It begins like any teenage romance movie.
They’re at a party. Music is playing on the speakers.
She’s been smashing buttons as Mileena and chomping through skulls.
“Who’s next?” she dares a challenger.
He approaches with no mercy in his eyes.
Raiden vs Mileena. The battle is back and forth.
In the end, she wins.
He’d never been defeated at Mortal Kombat before.
He’s dazzled and wants to win her heart.
But, just as the laws of rom-com demand,
She already belongs to someone.
Someone not deserving of her.
Still, he offers her a victory beer.
As their hands touch at the bottle’s head and their eyes meet,
Their love story begins, whether they know it or not.
She leaves the party at 12:01 AM and he walks her out,
Sending her off with a handshake and a wave.
One day, the evil male that holds her heart, crosses the line
For the very last time. She leaves.
And now, her heart is free to love someone new.
After the breakup cut-scene, the lovers meet again,
The day of the homecoming football game.
The winning touchdown is thrown,
And in celebration, she grabs him by the face
And the lovers share their first kiss.
There is a moment or two of silence before
The lovers embrace more passionately than before.
They get into his Golden Cherokee with a Mr. Skratch sticker on the back
And the lovers fly into the sunset to live happily ever after.
Music swells, and the Teenage Rom-Com ends with a black screen.
