Twas a full moon shining on a cool summer night
And hound dogs were howling at its silver shadowed light.
I heard but a whisper on the cool evening breeze,
Twas the voice of a woman I used to chase and tease.
Our love was forever, at least I used to think it so.
Then came the day she left me; I wondered, where’d she go?
If true love lasts forever, was this love not for me?
I heard an answer on the wind - Son, your true love is she.
A true love will always linger in the shadows of your heart
Even when the one you love has chosen to depart.
True love is the love you gave, no matter what the cost
It will return to you again, for it is never lost.
Like a full moon shining on a cool summer night
With placid waters glistening in its silver shadowed light
Love comes like a whisper on a cool evening breeze
A gentle touch, a soft caress, a rustle in the trees.
There is no bitterness in the past, if your love was true
The sweetness in the memory is true love’s gift to you
A rising sun or new full moon is not a memory
And so will love come once again, if you let it be.
Twas a full moon shining on a cool summer night
And hound dogs were howling at its silver shadowed light
I heard but a whisper on the cool evening breeze,
Twas the voice of love’s song...answering my pleas.

'Twas the night before Christmas
when I and my groom
finally found a motel
but with just one room.
My groom was in the bathroom -
leaving me alone-
so that he could douse himself
with some cheap cologne.
I - in my red negligee -
thought of bump and grind,
visions of his sugar plums
dancing in my mind.
Then a noise I heard outside
gave me such a fright!
who was out there in the snow
on our special night?
Opening our small room’s door,
I felt like a goof.
It was just an icicle
falling off the roof.
Then I felt a sudden breeze.
One unlucky bride!
As the door behind me shut,
I was locked outside.
When upon my motel door
I began to pound,
it was clear that my dear groom
did not hear a sound.
Right before my startled eyes,
what should then appear?
Someone dressed as Santa Claus,
filling me with fear!
His eyes, though not so cheery,
lit up, seeing me
as he crossed the street and came
stumbling drunkenly.
I stood helpless, trembling in
scanty siren red
when an icicle fell down
clunking my poor head.
I revived in the ER,
thong still on my rump!
Underneath my bandage was
an enormous lump.
Thankfully my groom was there,
smelling of Old Spice.
But we’d have no chance to give
gifts naughty and nice.
At our room I later saw
Santa Claus was there -
that same guy who’d seen me in
sexy underwear.
Having seen my accident
he’d informed my groom
right before he then collapsed
stone drunk in our room.
Santa on our honeymoon
with cheeks rosy red,
(but not one “Merry Christmas”),
stole our wedding bed.

Twas the night before christmas
and Christ was left out,
with no peep of the Good News,
no mountainous shout.
Stockings were hung
by the chimney the same,
but no one made mention
of the Savior's name.
On this sacred night
there were still shopping plans.
Their heart was poured out
through money changers' hands.
'Twas the hustle and bustle
of past Christmas Eves.
Once deemed a holy night,
now a den of thieves.*
Folks went into debt
for the pleasure to give,
not counting the cross
and what it cost to forgive.
Presents were plenty.
Wish lists were fulfilled,
but they didn't thank God
for the blood that was spilled.
An "X" had replaced
the unspeakable name.
Christmas without Christ
was now one and the same.
'Twas the night before Christmas
and Christ was left out.
The townsfolk had forgotten
what Christmas was about.
Merry Christmas to all; let Christ become your light.
*Matthew 21:12-13
And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves."

‘Twas the night before Christmas and I didn’t care;
I had dozens of latkes I had to prepare.
The menorah was ready, with candles to light,
Waiting there by the window, a wonderful sight.
The presents were wrapped and I lined up the dreidels;
The soup was a’bubble, with floating knaidels.
The applesauce waited to chill in the fridge
In a Chanukah bowl. (Yes, I tasted a smidge.)
The cookies were baked like my grandmother taught,
(So much better than any that anyone bought)
Shaped like candles and dreidels and six-sided stars;
There were plenty to fill cookie platters and jars.
When I suddenly sensed there was something the matter.
I raced to the kitchen – the oil was a’splatter!
For while I was fixing the festive display,
I should have been frying (not quite my forte).
The first batch of latkes was burnt to a crisp
And smoke filled the kitchen (much more than a wisp),
But tying my apron for take number two,
I ditched all the burnt ones and knew what to do.
I lowered the flame and reheated some oil,
Plopping spoonfuls of batter I wouldn’t let spoil.
Then I conjured my childhood and Chanukahs past,
When I had no idea years would fly by so fast.
And I pictured my nana and grandma, as well
As my parents, my grandfathers and Aunt Sydelle
And my brothers and sister and cousins galore
And my uncles and aunts I’ve not mentioned before.
While my latkes were frying, so crispy and gold,
I remembered how Chanukah used to unfold,
When we played with our dreidels and gathered our gelt,
In our family’s embrace and the love we all felt.
So I cooked the new latkes with patience and care,
Knowing that with my kids and my grandkids I’d share
All the pent-up emotions I’ve hidden inside
With a platter of latkes, now perfectly fried.
And to all who will celebrate Chanukah time,
I do hope there’s a lesson for you in this rhyme –
For the very-best feelings our childhoods instill,
Through traditions, our hearts and our bellies will fill.

‘Twas the night before Christmas,
and once in my bed,
no visions of anything
danced in my head.
The night – uneventful -
no kids bothered me.
No sound of small feet
rushing out to the tree!
My husband lay snoring
at least until ten.
I put on some TV
just waiting for when
my daughter, her spouse,
and their kids (older now)
would show up for dinner -
the meat from a cow!
No turkey, no ham.
I much prefer beef.
My son-in-law’s vegan.
I’d feed him a leaf.
There’s not much unwrapping
of gifts any more.
It’s more likely gift cards
that teens all adore.
Gift cards for movies
or things at some store
and inside of envelops,
money galore.
Gone are the days
of wrapping all night
toys for the kiddies,
and I guess that’s all right.
It sure took forever
to have to exert
energy wrapping. . .
it made my back hurt!
But in a few years,
wee girls and wee boys
(great-grand-kids) I’ll see
ripping wrapping off toys!

‘Twas the night before Christmas, I was almost asleep
The house was so quiet, you could not hear a peep
I woke from a loud crash and a knock at the door
It must be my late delivery from the corner store
To my surprise St. Nicholas was standing there
His eyes red and smelling of bourbon and beer
I asked what he was doing here this time of night
He said he crashed his sleigh in a drunken flight
His reindeer were fine but passed out in the snow
He still had some gifts to deliver before tomorrow
He begged for my help to deliver all the kids' gifts
I said yes, I can load up my rogue and give him a lift
We set out in my rogue packed full of Christmas gifts
We delivered them all, no children were left on the list
Thanking me for my kindness and generous Christmas spirit
He gave me a gift of a gold key with a huge ruby carat
He said I was now a secret member of the north pole
And I could use my ruby key any time I wanted to go, but
I could not tell his wife what he did to his reindeer and sleigh
I told him I would never breathe a word of this secretive day
He was ready to leave in his fixed sleigh with his reindeer in tow
He thanked me again, said he had to go as it was starting to snow
He said he really needs to stop with the liquid holiday cheer
But still decided to leave while drinking a few holiday beers

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE...
'Twas the night before Christmas
All the kids were in bed
I looked at 'her' face
And liked the look that I read
Just when things began to matter
I heard the real ugly sound of a clatter
I thought it was probably the kid next door
And realized that 'she' had started to snore
So I got out of bed and looked outside
You'll never guess the scene that I spied
It was Grandpa and Grandma in a hot embrace
'midst the trash from the can all over the place
To me it was truly a sight to behold
I guess they were thinking they wern't too old
To frolic around like they were thirty
Rolling on the ground and getting all dirty
What had happened, was plain to see
They were trying to bring in a Christmas tree
They tripped on the trash can and both took a fall
Had trouble getting back up, and that was all
Unaware that I had a great view
At what they had been attempting to do
I quickly ducked back into the house
Jumped back in bed as quiet as a mouse
'She' was still snoring and sleeping so well
I hadn't the nerve to wake her and tell
Of the sight I had seen out on the ground
From two old folks just rollin' around
Trying to bring in a huge Chrstmas tree
For all the family to decorate and see
I'll never forget it but I hope nevermore
To see what I saw on the night 'twas before

He knows if you are sleeping,
He knows when you're awake,
He knows if you've been bad or good.
Zombie Jesus must be staked!
So eat your crackers and wine,
And think that you'll be saved,
But that's not why he's here because
Your brains are what he craves!
He'll never stop his rampage.
Not until he's fully fed,
But nothing satisfies his hunger
Like what rattles in your head.
He's coming down the chimney.
He's underneath your bed.
You think you can outrun him,
But soon you will be dead.
So you better not whisper,
You better not cry
Cuz even a shot between his eyes
Won't stop Zombie Jesus, tonight..

‘’twas all wild—All wind, All shores:
Seas were brewing savage storms;
Rambling clouds were moving thunder—
Thunder herself, did her chores…
With white, foaming, briny waters—
The fleet of men crossing them—
Howling Capes and crowing Bergs
That ever saw trespassing them,
Witnessed the lot being washed—
The visor of Mercy being cracked…
The howling, screaming, deathly Play
Waited the time Night approached
To aide—to rescue hacked and chopped
With farewell bid to the angered Day:
Time now when the Rivers—joining hands
(That had shrieked and showed their might)
No more chid the juvenile Bank—
Traveled course in faded light,
Whilst the strength of Fury lay
To tell Quiet of squandered Peace…

'Twas the night before Christmas, I’d forgotten the sprouts
So I sent out a plea to the local boy scouts
I’d remembered the crackers, the turkey and ham
but my guests would expect sprouts, so I was in a jam
The scout leader admitted that I was in a pickle
and he said my family were all somewhat fickle
I said Uncle Bert just adored eating brussels
then he’d fart for days with his lax sphincter muscles
The scout leader had a plan, it is so well thought out
He'd call each scout’s mother to donate just one sprout
Every scout hurries round with one sprout in their hands
soon I have plenty of veg to sate my guest’s demands
On Christmas Day the relations ring my door bell
Pat barges into my kitchen; she makes my life hell
At one time she cooked meals for guys in the Navy
So she has to check if there are lumps in MY gravy
On the stroke of one o’clock I dish up the food
Uncle Bert belches loudly, that man is so rude
They devour all the turkey and round stuffing balls
By the end of the main course I’m climbing the walls!
They don’t offer to help, so I fetch the dessert
Uncle Bert drips brandy butter all over his shirt
Then they guzzle the cheese and finish the wine
Bert then farts profusely, he’s a disgusting swine
Then we sit round the TV to listen to the Queen
Bert’s eaten too much, his face has turned green
Pat gives me a present, of a hand knitted jumper
It’s three sizes too big, I just want to thump her
They’ve descended on me these last fifteen years
I ask if they’ll reciprocate, my words fall on deaf ears
They never say thank you, they drink all my booze
Next year they can whistle, I’m booking a cruise!

‘twas the night I met you.
A heart-stopping glorious man,
Possibly an Angel abandoning Heaven to master the art of earthly sensuality.
With dazzling electric blue eyes locked with mine,
Star-struck - I was breathlessly captured.
Too paralyze to move or speak,
I fell under your spell with pleasure.
And for that poignant ephemeral moment
my heart was delightfully taking its fill.
Although I knew not where you came from,
and there was a bell of warning clanging loudly in the back of my head.
Still nothing was going to be in the way.
Words needn’t be spoken aloud.
My heart defies all and embraces you in.
I’m yours to be devoured anyway.
Then like a velvet dream,
Your warm breath whispering along my skin as if stealing illicit kisses.
Drowning me into an undeniable blazing wanton desire and need.
Feverishly - together we claimed each other with pure satisfaction.
And ‘twas that night,
I knew happiness.

Twas the site before Christmas
and all through the place
All the poets were writing
happy thoughts to embrace
They sprinkled each stanza
with seasonal things
Like Santa Claus, candy canes,
five golden rings
All phrases were penned
with a holiday gleam
As sugarplums danced
in the midst of their dream
With Frosty the Snowman,
live wreaths on the door
Evergreens, Jingle bells,
presents galore
Tree trimming poems,
sleigh bells and joys
Fairly land winters
and elves making toys
A star in the sky
that three wise men did see
A babe in a manger,
the nativity
Hot cups of cocoa,
the garland is strung
Tinsel and ornaments,
stockings are hung
I read and I laughed
and I grinned ear to ear
Perusing their poems
of Christmastime cheer
When I thought of writing
out one of my own
Not a creature was stirring,
I sat all alone
I stared at the screen
wondering what I could say
To bring many smiles
on this wonderful day
But try as I might
my mind just couldn’t think
Of something for Christmas
to put down in ink
So I sprang from my chair
and I caused such a clatter
My neighbors called out
“Hey Chris, what’s the matter”
“It’s Christmas,” they shouted
as snow starts to fall
“A time to spread kindness
to one and to all”
When then, like a sled
moving quickly downhill
I got an idea
Of a way to fulfill
I ran to the keyboard
and started to tap
Before settling down
for a long winter’s nap
My fingers were nimble,
like reindeer they flew
To type out this message
so long overdue
For all of the poets
I’ve been lucky to meet
Who write so amazing,
leave comments so sweet
So here are the words
I decided to say
Merry Christmas dear Soupers
have a great holiday
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Soupers
I hope the holidays bring you much happiness and joy
and you are surrounded by love
I will be away for the holiday, so I will see you again next Monday

( T`WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS )
T'was the night before Christmas
and all through the land,
there where these two children
so simply so grand.
And all through that night
they could not fall asleep,
they were both too excited,
so they got up with a leap.
They ran down the hall,
and fell down the stairs,
woke up their parents,
and said many prayers,
they went back to bed,
while the clouds fade away,
with exciting dreams
of the dear Christmas day.

'Twas the night before Christmas at my house
when I heard a noise I knew wasn't a mouse.
And as the kids dreamed fast asleep in bed,
through their window, I saw a flash of red.
I thought raccoons were causing this uproar,
I know what they're like; I've heard them before.
Tipping over garbage cans, they're a pest;
wanting to see for myself, I got dressed.
No one was stirring, so I went to see
what made enough noise to awaken me.
Grabbing a flashlight, I headed outside
where I slipped, landing square on my backside.
Let me tell you, I wasn't in a good mood:
and that fall didn't improve my attitude.
On the roof, I saw reindeer and a sled,
for it wasn't raccoons, but Santa instead.
And Rudolph's scarlet nose was all aglow,
causing a red reflection on the snow.
Santa winked and then disappeared from sight:
believe me, I'll never forget that night.
My wife wouldn't listen to a word I said,
worried that I probably hit my head.
But when I was getting up from my fall,
I swear I heard, "Merry Christmas to all."

'Twas Joy Quite Speakable
Beneath the springtime colors,
of azures sky light blue
Are chartreuse plumpish grapes that seem,
to dangle vines so true,
Nearby there lies a babbling brook,
that took our breath away,
Along its length hugging its sides,
were violets on display,
Behind them stood gold daffodils,
magnificence had sprung,
'Twas more than just bright color full,
'tis birds whose tweets had sung,
Now, this sensation we all shared,
brung utter sheer delight,
With smiling faces, laughter too,
a wondrous blessed sight,
On bikes, we rode top country roads,
those feelings stayed with us,
We heard a tune and whistled soon,
thereafter sang its chorus,
Sidewalk cafe we wined and dined,
its cuisine was genuine,
Our waiters tipped us with a song,
and we all had tipped in-kind,
We rode around a quaint old town,
the late noon sun sublime,
then realized the dimming skies,
the telltale signs of time,
We went right off back to the loft,
within the city's square,
hugging each other and then one another,
separately as a pair,
A night of rest we woke refreshed,
and had a lite breakfast,
Our bags were packed, friends back to back,
as we hugged until the last,
I sensed the app, that speakable capped,
and the fullness of heaven's glory,
that all we're feeling, the sense of reeling,
'twas joy in the heart of our story!
"Joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart to stay!"
