The Edge of Romance

~
Dressed in a shade that the sun couldn’t find,
all on a cool summer’s eve
Seeking a scarf only meant to unwind,
wrapped in an untangled weave
Picking a fabric, the color of love,
stitched with a thread of desire
Taking your hand neath the heavens above,
warm in our flannel attire,
more than enough to inspire
~
Following pathways, the shape of your smile,
skipping like stones on a lake
Counting the ripples in circular style,
drenching the shore in their wake
Picking up pinecones now scattered the floor,
left of an overgrown scene
Acorns and clover and toadstools galore,
woven in soft evergreen,
what could this possibly mean
~
Heartbeat directions now lost to the breeze,
footsteps will know what we planned
Calming, the moments we talk to the trees,
sycamores do understand
Midnight adventures by firefly light,
glistening, leading the way
Wee hour wandering as they take flight,
below a lanterned array,
stars in a shimmered display
~
Find what you will in these words that I share,
tuck them away safe and sound
Breathe in the thoughts as you exhale the air,
now that there’s no one around
Kiss me tonight where the moon shadows dance,
soft on the eve of the morn
Holding me close at the edge of romance,
watching the sunrise adorn,
happy this new day is born
~

Fae circles of mushrooms
Lanky yellow toadstools
Firm jelly tot larvae
Feed from rich stagnant pools.
Fungal disks cling with wanton
To the grey trunks of trees
Cricket strums join to bird song
Sending messages of peace.

Lambent beams break through foliage
Gradient tones tint the scene
Yellow, purple, and whites
showcased by backgrounds of green.
Fractured rock nests bright flora
Compost mats engage moss
A place of breach and survival.
Nature's gain, (one might say)
is the product of loss.

In the Stillness

Along a forest path that few can see,
Just as the sun is setting in the West,
With owls and ancient oaks for company,
I wander in my solitary quest.
In shadowed dusk the world is at her best --
When lacy lichen clings to cooling stone --
The feathered robin turns toward her nest,
And in the stillness I am all alone.

There is within these woods an ancient tree
   Whose roots provide a peaceful place to rest;
Like gentle fingers, they encircle me
When by my thoughts I am too much oppressed.
Then I am of a sudden joy possessed,
   Which I claim quickly for my very own;
I feel the love of Life within my breast,
And in the stillness I am all alone.

And in that place, I ponder silently --
Admire the tiny toadstools neatly dressed
In spots and colors, sitting quietly,
And cannot help but by them be impressed.
The rights of others they do not contest,
   Nor under worthless burdens grieve or groan;
I understand their tiny lives are blest,
And in the stillness I am all alone.

So when dark doubts and fears have reached a crest,
And deep despair has pierced me to the bone,
I find that path and grant my heart's request;
And in the stillness I am all alone.

Set Your Mind Free

If only a dream
were the path to the future
Where crickets and toadstools
began the parade

If storks in the sky
were a common occurrence
and lemonade grew
in the cool summer shade

If roads led to villages
covered in daisies
While rivers and streams
glistened bright in the sun

And heartache was more of a
forgotten notion
as each day appeared
and was so much more fun

Where chimneys all smoked
but had no fear of cancer
And skies were so blue
you could paint with a brush

And sea captains danced
on a wave of approval
While sailing so slow
without even a rush

Where moonbeams of sherbet
made custard on Sundays
and tables were set
in the fanciest fare

And doors were unlocked
as the neighbors were knocking
along with their dogs
and a nice rocking chair

If only a dream
were the path to the future
Our minds could control
every place we did go

It’s all up to you
how this world comes to happen,
just set your mind free
of the worries that flow

Premium Member I Am Pretty Confident Until

Some people like keeping up with the Joneses
I do not know any Joneses who could keep up with me
So I have elected to keep up with the gnomes
How absurdly difficult could that task be?

I like wearing leggings, and I have no height
I love gardens, faerie houses, and toadstools you see.
I am pretty confident I can keep up until FFFT!
They begin rapidly disappearing in front of me.

I scrunch up my face, and concentrate ridiculously hard.
What about keeping up with faeries? Fairies begin to giggle.
I have not giggled in a long long time, annoying my own petard.
How about a dragon fly, I think as I begin my wing-trying-out wiggle.

Premium Member The Hour of All Hallow's Eve

Restless ghostly night,
      whilst full moon hangs bright
         drench in yellow with fright.

The hour of All Hallow's Eve
      has chimed like a venal thieve;
all in wild frenzy they leave.

A shrill whistle in the distance
      behest by spirits persistence
and wicked witches on broom assistance.

Those brave to be out in the dark,
stumble in their steps they mark,
as lanterns in trembling fingers spark.

   Twilight soul into burnt cinder
      shadows and ghost linger,
         as cowering frightened dogs whimper.

   Luminously yellow eyes blaze,
      of the alluring vampire's gaze,
in the dark a hypnotic maze.

   Goblins, gnomes, and black fairies
      dance around blood-red berries;
         a chilling ritual mummeries.

   Standing in the moonlight there,
a few feet from toadstools; a pixie pair,
         merry tricksters everywhere.

Waxen daylight creeps across the sky,
arise a yawn from sneaking dawn nigh.
Gone, in a wink All Hallow's Eve cunning and sly

Premium Member Faerie Fancies

Nut-brown owl nestled in a crooked tree
above the mermaid and jellyfish sea.
     Scaly horse & teacup-octopus lads
near the sea-soaked teen; tail thrashes with glee
as her amethyst hair bobs and flows.

  Nut-brown owl nestled in a crooked tree;
leafless branches with fantasia-tendrils.
     Speckled doe, circumspect and still,
keeps eye on darling-pink faerie and her eglantine esprit—
oft spied nudging toadstools & splish-splashing lily pads.

Nut-brown owl nestled in a crooked tree—
eyes shut, oblivious of the gadabout show.
Steel-eyed doe believes fowl’s not asleep but lazy.
She’s diligent, but unlike the owl, her hearing’s hazy.
Still, champagne-wing’d sweetbriar faerie fancies
the nut-brown owl nestled in a crooked tree.

The Old Rocking Chair

As I sit dustbound in the upper room;
This musky old attic, my temporary tomb.
Reminiscing my previous owners charms;
Her comforts found in my waiting arms.

I've carried her babies to candy places.
Put tiny grins on their sleeping faces.
They bounced on fluffy marshmallow clouds,
Where toadstools made of cupcakes abound.

Held the soldiers wife as she hummed love songs;
Dreaming the day her soulmate comes home.
Showing her the husband in visions enhanced
By my soothing, hypnotic, rhythmic dance.

Comforted the heart wrenched elderly widow;
Her life long love seen in fading shadow.
Strolled with her down lovers lane;
Her youthful passion remembered again.

Given her descendant; my resurrection day
Her grandaughter's babies whose dreams I'll make.
Happiness and sorrow, I will see her through.
This old rocking chair, my life made anew.

Love of Nature

Under canopy of majestic oaks,
leaves swaying, gentle breeze,
rustling of the dancing leaves,
flying chirps, all species,
joyous laughter, melodic sounds,
like violins, bees abound,
peace surrounds
in backyard paradise.

As I partake of nature’s scene,
eyes affix whites, magnolia high,
reminisce of mother in the sky.
Lessons of nature, she did give,
exploration through wooded path,
wild flowers we did name,
birds’ identity, toadstools find,
love of nature by her design.

A Little Girl's Dream

Each day I come to this special place, to catch a glimpse of fairies fair
Each day I come with a smile on my face, hoping that today they will be there
The tress are old, their branches bent
The deer less bold, now silence is spent
I spy the ring of red and white, toadstools where the fairies sat
Not a hint is left in this flimsy light, not an echo of their chat
I hold my breath, I sit and wait
Yet once again I am too late,

Far off now I hear how they sing, about the wind and the stars warm glow
How I long to dance in the fairy ring just once before it is time for me to go
Someday soon I know I’ll spy,
Fairy folk flitting past my eye
Long years have passed since those magical days, the forest still stands
I walk with my grand -daughter on those old twisted ways, we hold hands
As together we try as hard as we can
To catch just a glimpse of the fairy clan

We whisper as we walk along, afraid to miss the celestial song
We count the butterflies fluttering by, wondering all the while why
They always elude us just by a glance
They always induce us on the off chance
Fairy folk are always to be, intriguing imaginary friends for you and for me
Yet deep in my heart I’ll always know, they are just there behind that tree
And one special moment or so it would seem,
To spy them, just once is every little girls dream

Mythological Magic

Her garden is the one we love.
It's as if she knows we're here.
She has statues like us all around.
And flowers to bring us cheer.

At summer solstice it's party time.
Shaded by trees from bright sunshine.
We faries join the pixies.
The gnomes bring summer wine.

She has paths lit by candles.
to guide us home again.
Toadstools along the way,
should a drizzle spoil our play.

Surrounded by mature trees.
No prying eyes can see.
Us merrily dancing on our way.
Home to Tir na nOg go we.

Land of Youth is where we live.
Beneath her garden, out of sight.
The intoxicating scent of her roses,
sometimes bring us back at night.

Premium Member Mystical Forest

The Summer was coming to an end
As the colours of the trees now speak
So I headed to my little clearing in the woods
Saddened that they have lost their peak

But other views excite me
As I look to the greens turning brown
There are butterflies on their very last flight
As the leaves form a golden gown

But this is much more than a clearing
It's a magical mystical place
If your quiet enough and you are in the right spot
You will be lucky enough to be graced

For against the backdrop of the forest
An image so rarely seen
In majestic pose this mythical beast
Can be seen through the fading green

Every time it makes an appearance
The Autumn fairy enters the scene
Swirling the leaves as she spins in a dance
The unicorn is not just a dream

The leaves now begin to settle
Like a jigsaw they carpet the ground
Toadstools stand proud in ripened pose
As I marvel at nature's surround

My eyes now scout the peripheral
I see a fox, and elves in the trees
To see what I have seen on this end of Summers day
If your not with me, there's just no guarantee

Sun Kissed and Star Dusted Air Castles

She is whimsical midst-escaping
 blackness & beige stagnation,
reverberant betwixt musicality &
 fictitious paisley fabrications,
recognizes the actuality of her
 enigmatic spirit's frivolity,
well-defined by her quirky
quintessence serving her far beyond
periods of reflective flourishes,
has never been a slave to social
expectations nor gravitas of
 worldly-minded undertakings,
materialism is not her cuppa tang
 nor an applicable proposition,
heartfelt inclination is e'er creation
 and the freedoms it relishes,
you may catch glimpses midway
 seascapes & ocean's roar or
summits of splendiferous
 mountain's sumptuous loftiness,
swaggers 'bout configurations
 and milky way's artsy effulgence,
plays amidst wistful forests with
 nymphets and poisonous toadstools
sashays 'round wildflower meadows
 blanketed yonder moon blushes,
sun-kissed & star dusted she's
 collectively nightfall 'pon daylight,
envisages building soaring air castles
 amidst macrocosms high-rise skies'
 timelessness whence humankind
shall humbly recognize enlightened
 ceremony of incommensurate
resoluteness & obsessive commitment
 furthermost nature's conceptualizations

Premium Member The Dance of the Water Nymph

Despite the large orange flowering flame tree
That shaded my veranda, the summer heat was intense.
No amount of ice-cold beer could quench my thirst.

A stone throw away was my lovely verdant wood.
It lured me towards a more shadowy place.
Iridescent hues filtered through high branches
Of dark oak trees and stately ashes.
I trod the path, dotted with dubious luminous toadstools.

Distracted I mistook my normal path.
A large hawthorn hedge seemed to block my way,
Till I found an opening, a dreamlike scenario.
There a rivulet twisted its way among the trees
Growing fast till it became a pool in front of a dark deep cave.

Blossoms evanescence fragrance of the wood supplanted
The scent of flowing waters adorned with lotus flowers.
Distant vibrant music echoed with euphonic refrains.

Dancing above the hazy pool was a sight never to be forgotten.
She was beauty in perfection, a palpable poetic water sprite.
Spying me on the bank, she beckoned me to join her.
Who could resist such a soft embrace as we danced
Above the lotus covered pool while meadowlarks
Accompanied us with their warbling tunes?

My heart was filled with radiant love,
Ethereal whispers warmed my yearning heart.
Her luscious lips suddenly brushed mine.
Her loving embrace charmed me into surreal ecstasy
Her alluring eyes sent loving messages
As somehow, I felt the pull of the upper skies,
A feeling of unforgettable emotional attainment
Riding the woolly cooling clouds.

I woke from my trancelike riddle
As I found myself back on my veranda.
I had to find her again, but the sun was setting.
I resigned myself to fate. Was all I saw unreal and imaginary?
I desperately longed for a new morn and a new encounter.
