Best Sure Enough Poems
A woman gave birth to a son
named Justice; he had little fun.
If he wanted to play,
his mama would say,
“But only when Justice is done!”
Poor Justice, from morning till night,
tried hard to do everything right.
By the end of the day,
he still could not play,
for his time to do chores was so tight!
His life was a crime with no play!
We all know that crime doesn’t pay.
But were I in his shoes,
having paid all my dues,
I think I might just run away.
Well, sure enough, Justice did flee
and ended up in Tennessee.
With no place to belong,
he felt sad till along
came a girl who smiled tenderly.
Looking ragged, he asked (with some shame)
if the young girl would tell him her name.
“Can you guess?” said the Miss.
“Here’s a clue. It is this. . .
Those who have me don’t take all the blame.”
The young man did not have a clue
what her name was; it was all new.
He’d never hear of
- yet soon grew to love -
this girl and her charming name too.
Today Justice likes more his life
because this girl lessens his strife.
He learned her name well
when in love he fell
and Mercy he took for a wife!

Limerick
April first drives up in a new Lamborghini,
Everyone knows it is one of her foolish tricks
She will be driving a beat-up pickup farm truck
In thirty days, when time comes to start the planting.
April, she flounces between winter and summer,
Calling herself spring but she is, frankly, confused.
By the tenth, she is tossing around snow flurries
She grins crazily; our warm coats are put away.
Next day or so her temperatures are soaring,
The snow has melted, and we are donning our shorts.
What the old folks always call "Blackberry Winter"
Strikes with vengeance, temperatures in the thirties,
April says maybe that heavy sweater will do.
She laughs by tax-filing day with strong gusty wind
Though ornamental trees are beginning to bud,
There's talk of late frost, April does not seem to care.
Another few days, and she lets the top down so
Warm breezes are embracing the faint scent of lime.
When April suggests a warm spring is here to stay
A blast of Arctic air nips buds with frosty dew
In a warm day or two, sure enough, April comes
Driving her pickup truck full of mulch and manure,
April plants the sturdy vegetables like kale.
Despite late frost, the tulips will soon burst open
Gentler rains, and April may settle down for good.

The other day I was lucky
enough, to see you;
you made my blush
you made me cry
you churned the sky
with every color
known to man;
God adjusted the lens
I looked again, sure enough
you streaked the sky
with crayon shades on cue;
Your repertoire of color
surpasses every dream.

I had an IPod problem!
I fixed it, this is how!
I named the thing "Titanic",
by God, it's "syncing" now!
I was wondering where the sun goes?
I stayed up all night to see!
Sure enough, next morning,
it finally "dawned" on me!
I'm an avid reader.
I read anything around.
I read an "anti-gravity" book,
and I couldn't put it "down"!
I know some real bad food jokes,
but let me tell you first!
The one about German sausage,
brother, that's the "wurst"!
There are several types of illness,
that leave you sore and weak!
But, when your bladder is infected,
"urine" trouble, so to speak!
I was sorta down and out!
Times were hard, you know?
So, I got a job in a bakery,
because I "kneaded" dough!
NOTE; I apologize if you wasted your
time reading this! I need to get
a life! Sorry folks.

When elements are melted down, it is something to behold
A careful blend, a touch, a spark, can form the purest gold
Mixed to blend by careful hands, some miracles unfold
When halves are meant to fit as one, they form a heart that's whole
I knew them well, from different worlds, they were meant to be as one
He came to her, from a distant star, and she became his shining sun
Strangers they had one time been, but love brought them together
He had never been a father, but, four children called her Mother
He brought along a gentle love, and was sure enough to give it
She brought along a crazy life, and taught him how to live it!
The day arrived, when they would wed, excitement filled the air
On the fifth Yule day, they said their vows, and end to end were there......
The children, four, came through the door, to crowd the alter floor
He pulled 5 rings, a diamond gleamed, upon her finger worn
And 4 small rings, upon 4 chains, around their necks, he swore
to honor them, and make them whole, and give the love he bore
When elements are melted down, it is something to behold
Some hearts are meant to fill the dark, and shine as purest gold
5 Yuletide Days, 5 gifts he gave,.... 5 times the love, ...and more

The dawn has come; the birds outside
have gathered, seemingly to chide
me, chirping loudly in the trees.
They’re telling all they’re bird friends, “She’s
been staying in as if to hide!”
And sure enough, they haven’t lied.
A part of me feels like I’ve died
and vanished on a passing breeze.
The dawn has come.
I never used to think that I’d
be one to not enjoy the ride
when there’s so much of life to seize!
Beside my window, not at ease,
I watch those early birds now glide. . .
The dawn has come!

Rondeau
Dragon found a Fairy Ring and quickly jumped inside! Heaven Forbid!
Dancing round and round, he suddenly disappeared. Yes! He surely did!
As he disappeared I knew that trouble would without doubt, now ensue.
So I blew out my breath, and immediately did the same, I’d seen him do.
As I landed, I followed the mob, knowing Dragon would be in demand.
Sure enough, there he stood with the great sword Excalibur, in his hand.
The future King Arthur was standing empty handed, looking kinda sad.
Merlin, however, not amused, started chasing Dragon and looking mad.
Without Arthur to pull the sword from the stone, Camelot wouldn’t be built.
You might say that Dragon was in deep doo doo, all the way up to the hilt.
Things progressed far worse, as Merlin shot crazy magic at Dragon’s face.
He missed Dragon… leaving ‘Sir Mouse a lot’, in Sir Lancelot’s place.
Dragon dodged a magic bolt, from Merlin, hitting Sir Gwain, like a mace.
Yep, if this kept up, the whole round table was about to end, without a trace.
So I jumped Merlin, bringing him to the ground, as I screamed at Dragon!
Put that blooming sword down!… As in: YEP! BACK IN THE STONE!!!
But by then I was changed to a frog, and a few croaks were the only sounds.
Old England had become the new Mayhem Falls, both alive and now found.
Suddenly, Grandpa Troll appeared, yanking the sword from Dragon’s hand.
Putting it back in the stone, he bowed to Merlin and all of his medieval land.
Next he grabbed Dragon by the ear, and me as I hopped across the ground.
We quickly made an exit… by use of the Fairy Ring, now so very profound.
Camelot’s problems, would no doubt, be from ‘Sir Mouse A Lot’s’ overload.
Imagine what might have been, if we’d never helped see, that day bestowed.
Would the world have been better? Would Camelot have longer survived?
We’ll never know. But the Moral is: Beware of Fairy Rings and Dragons!
For they can bring about the worlds end, as we know it, on any given day!
Camelot had that story put on a Tapestry along with Arthur’s great event.
He dutifully, also, pulled the sword from the stone… Yep… You might say…
For them it had become ‘A Great News Day!’ As I did ribbit and hop away!

Light Verse
There's a monster beneath my bed
At least that’s what brother said
Mom said-" now that’s just silly
You know your brother Willy,
He just tries to make you shiver"
"But Wlly said it 'd eat my liver !"
You know I couldn’t go to sleep
In case the monster made a peep
And sure enough, round midnight
The monster gave me a terrible fright
The thing let out an awful roar
And pounded on the bedroom floor
Then the monster began to giggle
And my whole bed began to jiggle
You guessed it, out popped Willy
The smack I gave him was a dilly,,,
We're grown now, its been awhile
But silly Willy still makes me smile..

Monorhyme
...adapted from the novel 'Mr Pye' by Mervyn Peake
Balding and sprightly, he's filled with bold dreams
to make us all happy and free.
He selects as his target a small Channel Island,
a sampling of people just like you and me.
All he wants is that folks get along
without all their disputes and fights.
He tries to bring peace to this sheltered enclave,
just by doing good deeds he can sleep nights.
He practises witchcraft to bring them together,
'if it works' are his words for the day.
A sense of humour is paramount these days
to keep those nay-sayers at bay.
In the midst of these noble endeavours
he feels discomfort that turns out
to be wings that are sprouting quite clearly,
a cause for concern there's no doubt.
It seems that his kindness has made him an angel,
the more good deeds, the bigger they grow
'til they're actually poking right out of his shirt,
my goodness, they're starting to show!
So he counters with bad deeds in hopes that they'll shrink,
indiscretions and plain bald-faced lies.
Sure enough they diminish, in fact they're all gone,
he need not prepare a disguise.
But this scheme that he's started gets odder,
there's a growth on his temples, two horns;
he's been so busy negating the good that he's done
he's turned Devil, good heavens! he's torn
between Good and Evil, just what should he do?
he's conflicted, and lies in disgrace;
he sits down to ponder which way he should turn,
it's as clear as the nose on his face!
On the horns of a moral dilemma,
he simply gives in to pure Good;
he embraces his folk, he just loves them to death,
'til his wings are full-sprouted he'll
take to the air and keep flying
as far as infinity goes,
so he bids his people a tearful farewell,
next stop for our Spirit, who knows?

Verse
‘Twas a grey november morning
When I climbed outside my window
To see my breath like dragon’s smoke
Swirl and dance away.
‘Twas bitter cold
That autumn day,
And sickly sun wore mourning shrouds
Though lazy earth had yet to draw
Her snowy blanket
To her chin.
I marveled at
The tiny leaf-
The last one to remember
Summer’s happy days,
The only one to forget
His time was done.
Yet in his small defiance-
Prideful even in the light of death-
As he clung tightly to the bough
He commanded wondering respect.
And too
The blades of grass,
Idle maidens gossiping,
Had not lost their bright greenery
To old winter’s paling breath.
For they had done with washing
Dappled cheeks in morning dew,
Now arrayed themselves in frosty gowns
For Autumn's final dance.
With cheery feet
They turned and swayed,
Laughing in their finery,
The wind as minstrel serenading
With whistling tune
Them all.
Until the last leaf,
Old heart breaking,
Found that he could hold no more.
Slowly,
Slowly down he drifted
To the forest floor.
Then with a crashing sound was shattered
The stillness of that dark, dark morn;
And all the maidens wept in earnest-
Rent their lovely clothes in twain.
And as I felt the old man sleeping-
Dreaming ever
In my hand-
I knew the magic of that morning
Had been torn away.
Sure enough, earth’s yawning
Fingers
Pulled upon herself the snow.
But still sometimes I think of
Eden
Hidden in the folds of Autumn:
Longing, pining, yearning still
To whisper ancient secrets
To me.

LIFELONG, MEANINGLESS MUSINGS MEAN EVERYTHING OF NO VALUE
aka
OFF THE WALL RAMBLINGS
After upscale meals, I know no relief
until I somehow pick my un-fancy teeth.
Serve me good food in my own home
and these same teeth leave me alone.
At work, when I am approached by someone
who wishes to run some questions by me,
I silently laugh at an image most fun –
question marks toting briefcases as they run.
When my hands are dish-washing sudsy
or toting a large box for some distance,
an air fairy enjoys itching my nose nutsy
until I concede and scratch it roughly.
Any new clothes I hang up that are white,
closet creatures beat with yellow chains
and their marks will not wash out of sight.
The more I love it, the more yellow remains.
Things do grow legs and then walk away.
I tend to nest surrounded by my stuff.
I will not move, but my stuff will parade,
decay, migrate, and evade me, sure enough.
There exist an invisible, rude agitator
who throws dirt inside my refrigerator.
Every week or so, this frig mini-meanie does put
grime, spots, ice-hard raised trails and odd soot.
My air fairy, closet creatures and frig mini-meanie were all to me, assigned.
I know this because I often move and still, it is where I go that they find.

With Christmas time coming
It's time to call Jack
Sears needs a Santa
to get the Families back
They look for his number
It's no where to be found
They look in all the drawers
Managers buzzing all around
Then almost like magic
Who walks through the door
Sure enough it's Jack
no need to search anymore
His boots are all shiney
His beard white as snow
He looks like Santa's twin
His eyes even glow
Retail season is saved
The people coming in today
Will get to see Santa Jack
And put gifts on Lay Away
The children all love him
They don't give him a break
Poor Santa Jack has to go
His knees start to shake
He drops little Johny
Jumps over some trees
Slipping on a present
He falls down on his knees
The real Santa's watching
Down in the North Pole
A special gift for Santa Jack
This year he won't get Coal
Perhaps a red new suit
with some non slip boots
No more nasty stains
When Santa Jack gets the toots
For Carol Eastman's Christmas Contest.
I think the kids will enjoy Santa Jack.
Dedicated to my friend Jack, a jolly old soul who's never lived at the North Pole.

I had to find a bathroom,
A reasonable request,
I was all alone
And my bladder was quite stressed.
So I asked a man nearby,
“Do you know where a bathroom is?”
He merely shook his head,
And went about his biz.
I continued walking,
And sure enough around,
A woman with her children
Could tell me where a bathroom’s found.
She said, “I have no idea,
I’m busy you can tell.”
She fussed to shush her baby,
Who had just begun to yell.
I continued on my quest,
Moving with rapid stride,
When I found a large restaurant,
Surely, there must be a bathroom inside!
I went up to the waiter,
I said, “I really have to pee.”
Slightly irritated,
I decided to forego all pleasantry.
He said, “Oh, ours isn’t working,
Someone clogged it the day before,
But there is one a few blocks down,
About three or four.”
And so I hurried along,
Quite desperate to find the joint,
My bladder was close to reaching
Its natural breaking point.
I reached a tiny gas station,
Where the clerk mumbled to me,
“We do have an outside bathroom,
But someone lost the key.”
I turned and stomped outside,
I wailed out vehemently,
“How hard is it to find a bathroom
In modern society?”
A gentleman heard my plight,
And said, “You know, there’s a store—“
I interrupted, “Never mind,
I don’t have to go anymore.”
