Best Praying Poems
I saw a praying mantis as I went about my day
The brightest green, the coolest form
and I just had to say
“Please tell me of your prayer” He answered in his mantis style
“I pray my friends are happy
and they wear the nicest smile”
“I pray for those now hurting, filled with sadness in their heart
I pray for lonely people
who have not a place to start”
“I pray for all the homeless who are living on the street
I pray they find some shelter
and some food that they can eat”
“I pray for anybody who is in some need of prayer”
I listened to him carefully,
so glad that he did share
Then thanked him for his answer for I now know this is true,
it seems that in my mind I’m praying
for the same things too
Lord,
Should I pray for tomorrow?
I’m sure I’ll have many things I need.
But tomorrow may not come.
So I ask you Lord,
Should I pray for my next day?
Rivers will continue to flow.
Birds will fly and find their food.
Clouds will come and bring the rain.
So why should I worry about tomorrow?
I once heard a story of a woman,
Who came home early, bags full of goodies.
She gave a party for her children.
All asked what was the occasion.
Her answer was short.
“Today I got fired from work.
Tomorrow we’ll have no money.
But God will provide.”
What great faith she had.
What faith do I have?
I dare not reply.

Way out there in the meadow
where the wildflowers sing
Sat a lonely praying mantis,
such a funny looking thing
From within the petal'd choir
came a perfect summer song
So, he climbed upon a bluebell
and began to sing along
His voice, a lovely harmony,
now echoed on the breeze
To drift above the columbine,
meander through the trees
The sound so mesmerizing,
whisper soft along the rim
As if, now Sunday morning,
with a most angelic hymn
When then he noticed something,
as his lyrics came out loud
It seems his morning ballad,
had attracted quite a crowd
He finished serenading,
as he took a breath to pause,
To hear the other mantis,
clap a chorus of applause
From that day forth his singing,
was now heard about the land
Each meadow he did visit,
found that he was in demand
so,
it seems this praying mantis,
with his fans who do adore
His prayers have all been answered,
he's not lonely anymore

Oh, praying mantis, there with majesty,
you hold your slender arms so still and sweet,
in prayer like form that somehow makes us see
a kind and gentle species when we greet.
Your odd, triangle face responds your way
by nodding side to side, as if you hear
and grasp the words we speak and so convey-
to be beside you does not carry fear.
But, in the world, you live- yet to survive
another side of you is seen, exists.
A murderer you are- eat your mate live;
your coupling ritual exhibits twists.
Your mate is lucky to have found a chance
to spread his genes, his only goal in life;
to offer up his body in this dance-
a trade-off for his offspring to be rife.
With head gone first, he still completes his act
depositing his precious sperm; when done
you throw him to the ground and after that
soon feed on him to nourish life begun.
Oh, praying mantis, there with majesty
you hold your slender arms as if in prayer.
But looks so often can deceive, you see;
a murderer you are- his fate, unfair.

Quickly,
Quickly,
Quickly.
You spoke in search of light relief
And hearing your cries for Help
I cried myself to Sleep
On the rotten old couch upstairs
While Mum Cradled you in your Marital Bed
I Prayed religiously
Death come Quickly
To Shelter
You from the Cancer Pain
A Milkshake Cocktail of Morphine
To Aid Discomfort
While thinking all the While
Show your Face God
Where is your Grace and Mercy
When it comes to the Innocent
I fear you have done not only my Family
But the entire World
A Discourtesy
Ask anyone and they shall say
He was 1 of the Good One's
Wouldn't hurt a Fly , Never told a Lie
And come December 28th
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust
The Floor opened up the Gates of Hell
And ever since
I Fall and Fall
Quicker,
Quicker,
Quickly
A Pithy End

My girl she can keep very still,
it's no major act of will,
and can hold a stare without her eyelids dropping,
with her arms held out and bent
you can't tell that her intent
is to quickly swipe my wallet and go shopping.
She hides her feelings to me
and I'm feelin' kinda gloomy
since I've only found out where it could have led,
she eats her partner after mating,
which is why I'm stopping dating,
until then we're gonna sleep in separate beds.

(A Prophetic Poem from the Holy Spirit)
When you pray in My Name there is hope!
There is peace!
There is joy unspeakable!
Did you know that when you pray in My Name it is like a supernatural key?
Yes, all of the heavenly hosts are at your beckon call when you use My Most Powerful Name!
It is not a bunch of letters bunched together.
It is not some casual word that has no power.
My Name is the Name of the One who created you and designed your innermost parts and THERE IS POWER IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS.
My Name is the Name that knit you together in your mother's womb and the Name that calls for the chariot when it is time for your heavenly escort off the planet earth. If of course, if and only if you believe in the POWER of My Name and the love and commitment that goes along with it!
Did you know that I died on the Cross for you and all of mankind?
Did you know that I have a very special book that will guide you on your journey down here?
Did you know that if you read My Word every day and study its precepts that your life will go so much smoother?
There is power in My Name, dearest ones! POWER! POWER! POWER!
In the future you will see the fabric of your society beginning to unravel.
It will unravel faster and faster as the world ushers in the Coming of the New Age.
It is the Age of Innocence and it is the Age of the New Kingdom.
This is the Kingdom to Come and the fallen ones can do nothing to stop it from being birthed!
So please, dearest children, please! Please pray in the Name above all other names!
Pray in the Name of the Messiah-King Jesus-or Lord Yeshua HaMashiach!
I go by all three!
Pray with your greatest mustard seed of faith and know that I AM THE ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER.

The wheels
in the brain and round
go round and round
and round and round
and round and round
and round and round
and round o O and round
and round and round
and round and round
and round and round
and round go round
and round in the brain
The wheels

This piece, I believe, is my finest shape poem to date. However simple, with the wheel there is an implied spinning motion, the hub providing a sense of a third dimension, and together they create the impression of an exasperated face~ stuck, in the "round and round and round..." of obsessive thought patterns.
When I take flight,
will it be by day or night?
Will you see me,
even if I am right in front of thee?
To fly like an angel I would be,
loving you and flying very free.
I would like to fly,
fly into the bright blue sky.
I will be there when you cry,
I will help to dry your tearful eye.
As an angel I would want to fly and flee,
loving you and flying with glee.
Then praying on one knee,
under the flowering pink spring tree.
I do not know if you can see me,
I will be with a big yellow bumble bee.
Mantis
Verdant, skinny,
Praying, sneaking, planning
Insect, wife, insect, husband
Surviving, hoping, dying,
Fearful, easy,
Prey
Wishing, Hoping, Praying
I wish so badly that I was dead
Found in a tree hung under head
The tender kiss felt from a rope
Its for this end that I do hope
To end the pain felt day to day
Its for my death that I do pray
So I am wishing, hoping and praying
That from a tree ill soon be swaying
Its not the fear of being dead
Its living life that I do dread
Its living in this hell on earth
To the day I die back to my birth
And all the days in between
Make this life seem so obscene
So when the day does finally come
And to my wish I do succumb
Ill look and find a hopeful tree
Then ill pray on bended knee
Ill climb the tree a limb up high
And to my neck the rope apply
Look around give one last sigh
And when I drop begin to cry
By Mr. E. Jones
for what is it
she prays
motionless Madonna
rapt in stillness
awaiting the unexpected
mate or meal
slender neck
cleavaged eyes
pious predator
poised on spindle legs

Now I lay me down to sleep…
I pray that God will always be there
Holding me within His loving embrace
Whispering to me of gentleness and grace
Reassuring me that I have what it takes
To reach for the stars and find the moon
Shimmering its light across my thoughts
Mysterious halo of warmth and insight
I pray that God will always let me know
When I need to give my love to someone
Who needs hope to keep moving forward
Someone who needs a kind word or deed
Something to remind them they are worthy
That God’s light will shine across their life
With assurance that their faith is the answer
I pray that God will always color my thoughts
In hues of scarlet hope and sapphire trust
Breaking apart the lies of darkness and deceit
Destructive words that fall from the lips of hate
Words that are intended to discourage sweet hope
For a better day, a better way, a second chance
To give back to this world… hope, faith and love
I pray, now – as I lay me down to sleep…
For God to cover my soul – in a sanctuary
Of faith in His strength, His wisdom, His gift
Which keeps giving me the faith to move on
Past sorrow, grief and discouraging darkness
That longs to consume me so I can’t see the beauty
In the morning that dawns so beautifully!
Now I lay me down to sleep…
Thankful that God is holding me in His palm
Reassuring me that I will come to no harm
And silencing all my worst fears or doubts
With the promise that His love answers
Every prayer!
This poem was inspired by craig cornish's Now I lay me down to sleep poetry contest which I will be entering with a different poem as this one is too long!
No, my Lord,
I do not pray for mercy but only for
moral strength,
strength, my own wings to grow,
hight to heavens to fly
and
nearer to Thee my soul to be!
