Best Paws Poems
In the verdant valley of claw-some tales
lived a lady in a cottage of tails.
Every morning, her cat Grey loves to sit,
sip chamomile tea until paws permit,
a scratch here and there to wake her spirit,
so the sneaky rodents nearby fear it.
But the cat knew not the language of hate;
she was a queen dreaming of love and fate.
To unleash the mice that hide and scurry
through the countryside without a worry.
The rising sun too knows how stars despise
grumpy kittens purring through greedy eyes.
And Miss Grey did nothing but deeply muse,
while vested in checkered silvery hues,
she crafted a plan to spread stellar light
amidst the chaos that dwells at midnight,
hopes for peace within the community,
gives all the lives an opportunity~
to shine and flaunt their soft furry wishes,
wave sorrows goodbye with purrfect kisses.
Squirrel’s friendly kisses,
Squirrel’s loving squeeze.
Squirrel’s touch just misses.
Squirrel, if you please!
We are playing surprise?
Squirrel’s paws on my eyes.
I am supposed to guess?
Up in this squirrel nest?
Squirrel of my dream,
You are making me beam.
You are a shining star,
I know which one you are.
Place your hand upon my coat,
Watch me shiver so,
Pure ecstasy with you I feel,
Through my eyes I touch your soul.
For ill be there at your waking,
My tail, wagging to and fro.
In the evening bring you comfort,
When the days, stress has took its toll.
Can there be a friend so loyal,
Who will be there when you call?
In this ever changing world,
Some things never change at all.
I have a cat that wears no hat;
though her paws do love to bat,
her mice and balls,
all through my hall.
A clever cat,
a feisty cat,
I made her a nice catnip rat;
my hyper-active tabby cat.
A cat with tail all poofed and fluffed;
her claws are never, ever rough;
they’re so sharp and needle-like;
my god, they’re really more like spikes!
All through the night she bounds and plays;
sometimes in a catnip haze.
All day long she’s in a snooze;
fortunately, she doesn’t drink any booze.
I know she’s been on my computer,
looking for a kitty-suitor.
The claw marks on my keyboard tell,
without me hearing her collar bell.
Her favorite website, “Kitten Caboodle”;
actually sells tuna noodles.
I know because my credit card,
had more than thirty orders charged!
A confrontation did ensue;
she wound up with her ego bruised.
Pouting cat took paws that bat,
took out her frustration on catnip rat.
I tell you honestly,
I tell you true;
be grateful she doesn’t
belong to you.

Poetry drips from cat paws
Out of drowsy sonorous sleep
Through the green slit
Of a blinking eye
That alone shows a profound
Consciousness
Of environment, and world
Creeping up in its fawn colored grass
To pounce from nowhere.
This cat that I cannot surprise
Takes me like play rag
Toy or rat
In its dripping mouth
And I going limp
I have heard the dog moaning too
While she walks above the roof
Looking down with a subtle smile.
The dog curls on the mat
Ignoring the majestic movements
I cannot shake the claws.
Cougar slinking through crevices
Of boulders forgotten by flood
Puma leaping through the fluid light
Panther crouching
At the edge of night
Tiger forever burning bright
Lion in the caterpillar stage
There is a story in every rage
Cats cuddly cute unwind
Into vivid sheets, poetry dripping
From their tender paws.

I know the day has finally arrived and that soon we are going to lose you forever. I drive the car so so slowly as I take you to the vets. I just want to hold on to you for a few more precious minutes before we part. Weeping silent tears I bury my head in your soft fur and look into those sweet brown eyes for the final time.
Such a loyal pet
Your paws wrap around my heart*
Goodbye my sweet friend
*This line is used with very kind permission of Ed Ebbs – it was in a soup mail we exchanged and I thought it would be perfect for my poem. (the actual line was your paws are wrapped around my heart)

A
leopard,
silent paws
do not betray
him.
I closed my eyes for just a few moments to take a nap.
I was dreaming about my purrty lil' feline friend, Rose.
My sleep was disturbed by a gentle tap tap tap tap tap.
What are these flighty little things landing on my nose?
I was dreaming about my purrty lil' feline friend, Rose.
She's beautiful when she flutters her flirty green eyes.
What are these flighty little things landing on my nose?
I wish Rose was here with me to see the blue butterflies.
She's beautiful when she flutters her flirty green eyes.
Playful are these creatures I am teasing with my paws.
I wish Rose was here with me to see the blue butterflies.
We'd be very careful with them by sheathing our claws.
Playful are these creatures I am teasing with my paws.
I wish Rose and I could fly around in circles like they do.
We'd be very careful with them by sheathing our claws.
If I dream I have blue wings, my dream might come true.
I wish Rose and I could fly around in circles like they do.
My sleep was disturbed by a gentle tap tap tap tap tap.
If I dream I have blue wings, my dream might come true.
I closed my eyes for just a few moments to take a nap.

Paws on the Avenue
Every afternoon ‘bout half past four
Paddy and I go out the door
No straying from our daily ritual.
Paws on Fido Avenue
Happy tails of sloppy kisses unmuzzled
Parade of canines – every kind “bone-i-fied.”
A purebred mutt strut cavalcade
Fashion parade of single coats
Long hairs march in pants
Yaps and barks and woofs
Howling hounds the moon
Canine panoply unleashed
Treats at every yard
Toys at every door
Red hydrants for pee-mail.
Delight rolls over
For belly rubs and tummy scratches
A loving pat upon the head.
No stray warm beds on winter nights
No puppies sleeping in the rain
No litter left abandoned scattered by the winds!
This march of conformation
Moves by happy gaits
Where even cats are welcomed in humane harmony.
Every afternoon ‘bout half past four
Paddy and I go out the door
For this our fantasy walk on Fido Avenue.

PAWS FOR CHRISTMAS
The tree stood straight,
It looked so nice.
Even had shiny things,
To look like ice.
A star on the top,
Was special to see.
Plus the lights and toys,
Filled our hearts with glee.
A package or two,
Were placed on the floor.
For family and guests,
To see and adore.
Then the puppy came close,
What did he see?
What is that shiny thing on his nose,
From the Christmas tree.
How did the ornament so bright,
Get down on the floor?
I bet this puppy could tell you,
As he ran for the door.
What are these teeth marks,
On the package we see?
A gift from our puppy,
Under the tree.
But we take it in stride,
And hug the old mutt.
For it's his Christmas too,
but "stay out of the nuts".

An Ancient crazy Ox,
Once had a whacking job,
Breaking on the dance floor,
One too many holes to show!
A sleepy grizzly bear on four,
Drinking ale with a drunkard
boar,
On board a rocking Boat with
one oar,
Singing 'bottles of rum' from
Jamaica to Singapore!
Mind me manners toward
Capitano Lady Fox,
Upon the infamous pirate
ship at Bencoolen's seaport,
Gives me dreaded shivers me
back as she reckons me
ransom...
Or walk the plank on her
fancy at devil's watch!
Her bastard crews scattered
around the world by
misadventure,
Come crawling back surely
from as far as America to
India, Oxes,Bears,Otters,Boars
and nasty Mr.one-eyed
badger!
Assign her coloured flags of
the Dark Paws!
Get ready to sail and soar on
open seawater.
'ALL PAWS ON DECK !' yell the
first mate Mr.Badger at the
aft,
Scurry me *****es of a
pirate's whore or there'll be
no sunshine on your arses!
And glide she did towards
Shanghai's blossom ...
And on her voyage she pick
up the grizzly bear and
drunkard boar,
With a slashing whip on
those Scumbags with her
foxy's paw she gave in to her
pleasure!
Beware merchants and sea
travellers be on your guard,
The sinister Black Paws is
coming your way...
And by the hairy ass of
Bloody
Mary have mercy on you,
When she prey upon your
vessels on golden horizon
ablaze !!
Ahoy there and shiver me
timbers this take becomes
hotter,
A tale of battles with pirates
and the western kingdom.....

All the puppies sit in a row,
waiting for Santa Paws to show.
They knew he had a ways to go
cause mommy had told 'em so.
Is that Santa Paws I see?
No, that just cannot be.
I've been good, really
good, especially me.
What is that loud noise I hear?
Shhh! Quiet! Santa Paws is here.
They all sit waiting for him to appear,
hoping extra treats he brings this year.
Great, you're all hearing things!
He will not bring us anything
if he knows we're hear waiting.
He expects us to be sleeping.
They finally settle down for the night
and now all tucked in bed real tight.
One had ran away and hid out of sight
wasn't going to miss Santa Paws tonight.
Humble stayed wide awake just so he could see
if Santa Paws come down through the chimney.
Wouldn't you know, Santa Paws he never got to meet,
for he was so tired and had quickly fallen asleep.
When he's bouncing down the hall,
Thunder Paws is what you call.
Thumping, thudding, in your ear,
That's the sound, you will hear.
Tipping, tapping, as he walks,
Yepping, yapping, when he talks.
Bouncing, jumping everywhere,
Bumping falling here and there.
As that puppy starts to grow,
He bats those feet, to and fro.
Watch out for his dewy claws.
Don't get mauled by Thunder Paws
He's so sweet and silly too,
He plays hard and acts a fool.
He's a marvel, he's a clown,
He's the biggest pup in town.

*note about this poem
When juvenile,
it matters not the ticking of the clock.
For then, time creeps as if on velvety paws,
casting its shadow o'er the earth;
but as we mature it appears,
as a bird of prey on outstretched wings.
Always solemn-faced, talons extended,
snuffing life as were it a candle at first light.
We know of our beginning,
but only God knows of our appointed demise.
In the interim, withhold not thanks,
for the extension of life each day.
For while life's beginning,
may come with the glow of a velvety red rose;
time, as the noonday sun,
will soon render it a pallid pink
There was a mouse wanting out of the cold
Scurried up the lead pipe wrapped up in old
Blankets. Feeling safe and warm
Fell asleep whilst the ice storm
Came. Blankets pilled, among ice cube mold.
Out in the yard the frozen mouse was thrown.
Cat meowed, goody a mouse all my own.
Sun came out and thawed the mouse,
Lickety split in the house.
Dumbfound meow empty paws left alone.
