Brides Worldwide

That slow and spectacular gait of a bride
Brimming as she is with nuptial pride
With grace and beauty each regal stride
as invitees whisper, 'here comes the bride'.

She for her big day so perfectly embellished
Her love-match said to be divinely predestined.

On their big day even the plain-faced, homely ones
 turn into comely beauties
A magical day as it is, of rituals and formalities.

All the fuss and pomp, she almost feels like a queen
Her glamour thus showcased, with praise dön't be mean.

Attired in any hue, rose-red or even snow-white
She glows with an aura of pure holy sacred light.

Many overawed by the debut of her bridal charm
Yet, watch out O' newly weds for any evil eye's harm.

For the pinnacle of her womanly splendour and beauty
is now upon coveted passion's pedestal and apogee

She on stage now with only love's trophy and token
Just graduating from spinsterhood, to disappear the maiden!

As the center of attention, she turns into an actress
Her emotions under zoom lens, a bit easier to guess
For close-ups she knows she has to impress.

Some coy, some bashful, some hiding joy in the heart of hearts
With cameras clicking, drums beating, her new life starts

“No matter how low we fall, God holds our hand ~
All’s enabled, if this truth we understand”
                                             ~ quote by poet

Both Adam and Eve were tempted
To eat the forbidden fruit
Perhaps their fall could be preempted
If they weren't so resolute
To take the devil's route

Let us together attempt to reconstruct
This metaphorical tale
Why did Adam and Eve self-destruct
Drinking not from the holy grail
Thus their soul growth derail

Eating the apple brought about shame
Of their naked body
Aroused lower mind no doubt to blame
Making them a limited somebody
Entertaining thoughts shoddy

Made in God's image man was complete
Essence of divine light
From head to toe at all times bliss replete
Temptation became the blight
Denuding spherical sight

Male and female being our polarities within
Apple representing animal lust
Negating God's love and light the original sin
Succumbing to ego cravings unjust
Thus doomed to ensoul organic dust

The serpent is our ego; the devil in disguise
Cajoling man to act on his own
Indulging in desires, stifling soul's bliss rise
Head over heart, love dethrone
A dark destiny, we now bemoan

Fortunately, we can reverse the error made
Simply by giving love a nod
We then enter God's heavenly blissful glade
Tip toeing into heart unshod
By His boundless grace overawed

Queen of the Turf

There it was gazing up – radiant –
radiating kaleidoscope silver green;
sharp with life, ready and expectant.

Spreading its claim, pressing out the grass,
was a thistle born from last year's seed unseen.
From where had it blown here to outclass

the perennials of the turf? Its time
now come to arise from the meadow supreme,
preparing to host bug life full time.

Come July it will fuzz with purple
flowers as a crown for a victorious queen,
armed with many a prickled sepal.

Visited by suppliant insects
who set and array her seeds; a frothy scene
for finches' feast. Passing air extracts,

disperses the progeny abroad
to wherever to be ready, once more unseen
between the blades never overawed;
a tribute to the Creator Lord.

Premium Member The Host of Heaven

The wind whipped through the vale that winter night;
he hunkered down, his watch to keep.
A solitary star gave off its light;
oblivious, the sheep
lulled by their shepherd's song, lay slumbering in sleep.

They suddenly were no longer alone;
an angel of the Lord appeared
and all about, His wondrous glory shone.
The shepherd, much afeared,
shook, naked and exposed; the sight, his senses sheared.

But grace on grace, the angel said, "Behold,
I bring you tidings of great joy!"
And thus, just as the scriptures had foretold,
Immanuel, a boy,
announced, not to the rich, but to the hoi polloi.

And as he spoke, 'twas like a switch was thrown,
the veil drawn back, a mere facade;
surrounding him, a multitude had grown.
A sight that overawed:
the host of heaven singing, glorifying God.

Premium Member The Indian Snake Charmer

I have seen them stand outside my door,
pleading mother to help stage their show,
on our verandah with stony floor,
tattered clothes, hungry child, wife on tow!

dusty robes speak of miles he walked,
two woven baskets on wooden yoke,
usual wares with which he embarked,
a venomous trade to feed his folks!

with widened eyes I saw him sit down,
his sweat pouring down in summer heat,
mopping face and brow with long sleeved gown,
asks favour of water, food to eat!

rested and nourished his show is on,
a crowd of urchins get a free peep,
melody like from an old car horn,
he blows sharp and sweet but yet so deep.

speckled cobra nearly five feet long,
rocks in anger with an open hood,
heat of summer is no time for song,
disturbed from slumber, how very rude!

As child was overawed by his skills,
such deadly snakes controlled by his Been*,
there is tragedy behind each thrill,
truth of life, often hidden unseen!

snake charmer’s life is twin tragedy,
education denied from a child,
for snake it is to be in custody,
to lose their freedom to rule the wild!

let’s solve this tale with education,
help their children go to a good school,
use their skills to help conservation,
so the snakes roam free, the wild to rule!

*Been a musical flute made from a coconut shell used by snake charmers to distract the snake

Premium Member Fig Leaf

Flimsy fig leaf camouflage,
subterfuge reveals montage,
mind games at play everyday,
as conscience to rest we lay.

Enacting oneupmanship,
demons of mind we worship,
anchored in hypnotic trance,
enticed by dark desire’s dance.

Engaging in acts feral,
we find our soul’s in peril,
yet we wear the fig leaf mask,
making weary earth life task.

Naked one day before God,
our lower mind’s overawed,
for the web of deceit spun,
needs by us, to be undone.

By our hand, committed theft,
we find ourselves love bereft,
thus reincarnate again,
to erase our soul’s dark stain.

Harking to the divine call,
seeds of love sown, we stand tall,
same inside out, transparent,
vibrant in the bliss current.

Chronicles of a long Distant Race

I arrive amidst all the chatter and confusion
that seems to haunt all pre-race activities,
friend greeting friend,
club member greets fellow member,
New shoes, shorts and shirts being shown emulously.
Profusions of Vaseline used in all those little places,
stretches of an overweening nature giving one an
overawed feeling of inferiority,
warm up laps being produced at a frightening pace
conveying to this novice the very thoughts they are suppose to!
Tannoy system then bursts into action signifying the
end of the disorganized bustle, thus signaling the creation
of the organized hustle.
“Favourites to the front, others to the rear,”
Mr. Starter then proceeds to give a small sermon to all,
on sportsmanship.
The pistol then snarls, the jostle begins, one thousand souls
are manoeuvred on their fervid way, each striving violently
to become at peace with one's inner self.
Still jovial the chatter remains at fever pitch,
only time will subside its fervour.
I, trying to focus in my mind any subject at will, if only to
ease the pain of this competitive array.
Step by step the miles begin to abate, this, only reminding the
body of what already has been achieved,
leaving one searching the brain for even more constructive
reasoning for progression.
Then through eyes glazed by abundance of moisture I see the
eternal finishing line,
with throngs of folk waiting proudly to caress to share to
question,
I finish amid scenes of wild excitement breaking out all
around me,
although I have an inner satisfaction of achievement I still feel
like a stranger here, in this a carnival atmosphere,
for a moment I nearly forget,
that no one is here to share, my glory my burden,
that I am what I am.

Songs and lullabies of yours still echo in my ears
Hands that caressed me, the soft touch still lingers
And your cheer ups helped me to move on, dear
Never ever you let me remain sad and in tears
To you I used to turn when I was treated unfair
In your absence but, I felt quite overawed, I swear

Mother! You are still etched in my memories
You are ensconced in heart’s golden reveries

May you also be blessed and rest in peace
Oh dear! We pray and wish you get solace
Times cannot tear a loving silhouette apiece
Happy Mothers’ Day, our love does not cease
Else I would have drowned in depth of seas
Remain you will, my life’s firm centerpiece

Why Do I Love You

Why Do I Love You?
©2011 C. Brent Cloyd

When I tell you that I love you
Hurriedly you ask, tell me why?
You laugh when in dismay I sigh

Dare now, listen to some reasons
Obsess and parse them if you please

I love because God gave you to me

Life is good when I see your smile
Observe your wittiness and style
Valuable are your hugs so snug
Each time you travel I feel a tug

You bring pride and make my heart dance
Overawed I choose to love, not perchance
Utmost I love because you are you.

“Where is sleeping, dreaming, waking,
or even the fourth state?
Where is fear?
I abide in the glory of Self”

Verse revisited on 09-June-2022

Timeless continuum of here, now, this
Peace rippleless, humming with bliss
Holds steady internalised attention
As ever present divine orientation
Wherein heart thus, void-centric
Radiates loving intent concentric
Be it in waking or dreaming state
Magnetic bliss throbs within gyrate
Each life pulse embrace and release
Flowing gently, like the morning breeze
Dreams within dreams do thus renew
Witnessing linear time flow continue
Aware that we’re breathed by God
Of cause, not effect, overawed
Witnessed from fulcrum of stillness
Be it day or night in vibrant blissfulness

Thank You, My Lord

Thank you, my Lord

Thank you, my Lord

Thanks - a ton of it, to you,

Pure I was when I was born

as a dew drop on grass at dawn

But as the day progressed

lie knocked at my door

and I let it in, greed followed

to be my next guest.

Lust visited me very often

and soon I was one of the beasts

But one day I met truth among the flowers

and was overawed by its light,

it lifted me from the clay of lies,

melted the greed by its heat

and lust lost its way to my humble hut

Flooded by the light of bliss

how fortunate feel!

That I had His grace as a gift

make me dance and dance on my feet...

Traducent

Traducent are we who speak with slivery truth
With silver fork tongues we malign the disclosure
Slanderous are we who act suasive and choose
The obduse of wealth, power, and fortune

In the overture of madness we play in absolute confusion
Vexing, beckoning with their temptations
Plausive are we to the eyes of the wicked
With frangible gists and terrible mindedlessness

Not a poor soul saved, not another guilt grasp
Ignominiously felt, and despodence lasts
All overawed with the overwhelming avarice
And lo the kings of the foul and the underlings

In the Wonder

sitting and breathing,
 I am again
 in the wonder

there are fissures
 in my night sky
 I see a skerrick
 of heaven

flaming stones
 happen through
 etching minutes
 on small hours

starbursts course
 onto the Milky Way,
 snow in space and
 angel dust in my eye

pieces of humanity
 drift in the iris
 overawed,
 breathing stops

in the incredible
 astonishment
 of existence
 and the favour
 of life

I respire
 once more

The Bible

The Bible is the Word of God
So don't you find it somewhat odd
Like Ogden Nash
God needs your cash
Before you can be overawed?

Premium Member As We Be Breathed

One night from deep sleep I awoke,
stirred by a light that gently spoke,
oozing love, seeking my consent,
for my soul’s heavenward ascent.

No sooner I nodded my head,
into the vast void, I was led
sans form, for I had vaporised,
truth of oneness clearly apprised,
feeling God’s breath in-dwell each form,
felt within as magnetism warm.

My formless presence, one with God,
gripped by bliss mists stood overawed
in this knowing transcending mind,
free at last from fetters that bind.

This is the wisdom I can share,
with pure hearts who so choose to pair.
