Opal Stars, Velvet Dreams

~
My thirst now deep ~ I long to quench
to sip this periwinkle wine
In goblets cut of harvest moons
impassioned pleas now cast of time

Tender kisses ~ sonnets placed
on fevered lips near rainbow streams
In golden castles made of sand
I've knelt beside you in my dreams

As whispered winds ~ I've called to you
before the dew of morning beads
and sunlight forms the northern star,
in measured breaths of tempted needs

In rustled leaves ~ I've heard your voice
beneath the dark where crickets play
That echoed through my aching heart
harmonic to the light of day

From mountain top ~ my vision soars
‘cross fertile valleys emerald green
In search of perfect precious love
amidst this beauty I have seen

Beyond the shades ~ of here and now
I've felt your breath beneath my skin
I've tasted sweet your tender smile
and felt the longing deep within

For in this mist ~ of moistened glow
the heart reflects on distant wing
In melodies of long ago,
desires silent evenings bring

With opal stars ~ I write your name
in shimmered streaks across the night
Where darkened velvet curtains fall
on windswept dreams of sweet delight

And now we stand ~ together pure
a' glow this jasmine moon above
Two fires of a single flame
among the rhyme of written love

Wishes fly ~ on silver whims
far beyond each silent cloud
As evening finds us lost again
in precious love forever vowed
~

Premium Member The Opal

The opal’s not like other stones,
her polish more satin than shine,
her colors mixed and muted tones
but look closer, within you’ll find--
there’s lightning coursing in her veins
and fire burning at her core.
She hints of blue skies above the rain,
turquoise calm though the seas may roar,
of blazing sunrise and sunset.
She speaks of passion veiled in lace,
of secrets kept without regret
and fragile things you can’t replace.

Oh, may you keep her safe from harm
and ever wonder at her charms.

Premium Member Onyx Clouds and Opal Dreams

Written: January 30, 2025

                      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beneath February breath,
a fugue of magic hues—
embers of crimson,
coppered caramel trill
as maples sway
in Mistral melodic mirth.
Amidst the rhapsody,
in strokes of whispered shimmer
a rainbow flares.
In a seamless symphony,
a fresco of shades
unfurls in the sky.
Amid the onyx,
woven in clouds gossamer,
winter moon glows in a frosty sheen.
In luminous rhapsodies,
she hums opal notes
of wistful longings to the sea’s restless soul.
Drenched in ethereal blushes,
the sea becomes a shimmering midnight hymn—
choristers of spectral silver.
O'er the skyline’s silken scarlet,
March dusk in tourmaline blush,  twilight lyrics
of a sundown serenade.
Amidst the concerto,
swirling crimson,  a swoop of swallows
in shimmering shadows.
They dart off into the tinted eventide,
their wing beats,  an echo of lingering silence.
Opal did you hear me,                                                        Oliver passed away.                                                            Oh my dear loving friend,                                                     Overnight you did say.                                                        Over drinking cold beer,
Old guys do their own thing,                                                       Oak barrels were to blame.
Black Opal
Drawn into black pools of midnight
In deep space
Enchantments dive into
Warm CRIMSON flames -
Nascent from sandcastles SAFFRON sandstone –
That burn in AQUAMARINE of LILAC
LAVENDER fire
Blazing in a symphonic
CORAL symphony,
Like butterflies with WATERMELON and TANGERINE wings
Among the neon LEMON blossoms,
To emerge from the stone cutters crystal vision
With a kaleidoscope of astral gemstone combustion
Flecked with CHARTREUSE comet sparks
Of psychedelic spectral passion
Drawn into sapphire’s white hot conflagration
Ebony releases the rainbow restrained
By round facets -
Impetuous unrestrained fiery infatuation
Of effervescent excitement.
Premium Member My Blue Topaz Ring With Opal Band
I traded in my diamond ring for a pretty ring with a brilliant blue topaz.
She is surrounded by a band of gorgeous iridescent opals.
My husband did not question it, knowing my love for jewelry changes
This was six years ago; this exquisite ring continues to be a favorite.
My diamond ring is somewhere; unsure where and do not care.
This blue topaz ring uplifts me, replenishes me, revives me.
It gives me energy and enthusiasm.
It gives me strength; I feel love from it.
Fingers on my left hand do not feel complete without it.
Other rings parade back and forth on my right hand,
but this gem stays where it is.
On my right hand, ring finger, where other women park their diamonds.
The color of the sky and the ocean surrounded by white cap opals.
I think the appeal is simple.
It is a ring that I fell head over heart in love with,
I feel that it reflects my relationship with myself.
I have had many compliments on this ring.
Others feel the power she exudes.
Whisper of the Opal
born from rain and fire’s embrace
a captured storm, a veil of lace
shifting hues in liquid light
dancing secrets, dark and bright
whispers stir in hidden gleam
opal dreams in pearly streams
shadows ripple, colors wake
a silent spell the stones forsake
moonlight spills through spectral veins
soft as echoes, lost remains
a gem of stories, old and deep
where shattered rainbows softly sleep
Premium Member First Winter Poem This Winter
The last of first snow’s flakes are falling down.
Lush, rich heaps sparkle opal gems as crown.
Such creamy drifts of bright schemes beam with glee.
Fresh, pure, blank slates of possibilities
Sway silver-lit flakes down dancing in spree.
I long to open my front door and play,
but I am stilled by my own feet to stay;
the fun I may now have in snow frolic
versus ruined pure white, so hypnotic.
Thoughts turn to men with spades and city plows.
I determine my play be brisk and now.
In time, icicles may drip bleak onyx
And man’s snow-ways turn me melancholic,
but today I shall in this snow frolic.
Premium Member A Tribute To Opal Lee and Juneteenth
Woke up this morning with freedom
on my mind.
I’m perpendicular to the blessed ground,
well and alive—
It’s Juneteenth and it’s break-out celebration
time—
It’s going to be a beautiful day God has allowed
me to survive.
Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve always celebrated
Juneteenth day—
From the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific, to the
Caribbean, I would go;
From Freeport to Houston, to LA, to the shores
of Montego Bay;
Then down there on the Virginia shores of a beach
Blacks call Buckroe.
We’re all celebrating what the ancestors long ago won
for you and me—
And today, we sing and give God the praises for blessed
GrandMa, Opal Lee!
And though down in that part of Texas, there may not be
a roaring surf,
You can imagine the magnitude of the celebration going on
down in Ft. Worth!
I got the grill out and the meat is now smoking with the smell
of sage bar-b-que
And I’m selecting the music as I stand  here sipping on an ice cold
Corona brew;
Got some New Orleans-Texas style Gumbo with fresh seafood just
off the boat;
Even got some authentic jerked chicken and homemade seasoned
curry goat!
Hey, look around and you will see, people of coal color, cream,
and snow-color:- celebrating!
Look around and know that the change that was coming is now
even more liberating!
Oh! just imagine the joy! People partying everywhere in such a
jubilant celebration way!
Due to the undying efforts of Grandmother Opal Lee—Juneteenth!
a national holiday!
Waves of Opal Nights
Waves of Opal Nights
May appear to be real, but the deal that once was sealed is unfinished and untouched.
Clutched by one's eyes of what you truly want to see, but left with this mirage; this montage of innocence.
Remorse has no place within these shark-infested waters.
Slaughtered, by the words that cut so deep. Sleep on the cold steep steels of woods keep.
Shaded, jaded yet aided by those, that were dismissed.
Sealed with a kiss, as lies forever build and your soul dies a little more, from each passing puff.
Is it enough?
How long can you, should you, or would you keep, this forged emotion going?
Not showing, any of what is hidden. Just maybe, when it all sinks with unbroken chain linked feet and hands into obscurity. Purity has no security with such inadequacy of things written. Forbidden to care or dream about things that once was us. Faded, within the moments of time. When the wind chimes its broken song of dismay. Left to lay in a distant future, far far away.
                                                                                 Darius Howard
Black Opal
Your mood was as black as the opal
Your eyes sparked of the fire of red and green
One of the rarest stones on the planet
The most rare is what you are to me
Words can’t express the intensity
The impact this precious stone evolves
The knowledge you’re my own beauty
*Silicone, hydrogen, oxygen are not involved
I would wear you close to my body
On a chain resting on my chest
Let the warmth of those black moods
Keep me smiling as you lay there at rest
If I was a rich man a ring I would buy
Made of this precious composition
For you to wear, so that people can see
You’re precious, though of a moody disposition
*Black Opal
The brilliant play of colour, or "fire," in these dark gems, along with their relative scarcity, causes them to be worth over $2300 per carat.
Composition of a Black Opal: Silicon, Hydrogen, Oxygen | Market Value: $2,355 per carat.
an opal gray fog
hangs over the lake and woods
morning birds calling
a ghostly airplane
engines echoing loudly
as chipmunks scamper
empty swings dangle
each awaiting toddlers squeals
the sun burns a view
Birds bespeckle  tangerine skies
 As sun meets sea  in waves of gold
  Upon the wind the birds now rise
 Birds bespeckle tangerine skies
 As summer frames the sun's demise
 On gentle breeze beauty  unfolds
 Birds bespeckle tangerine skies
 As sun meets sea  in waves of gold
Premium Member Her Opal
The opal of her body, so sensuous
Creates disruption within my very soul
Without resting, she moves me so sumptuous
I falter in breathing because her control
She brings be beyond error and ignorance
However I crumble due to her brilliance
Her eyes tenderly take me beyond their cast
I start to soften as passion holds me fast
