Poetrysoup Heroes

I'm only allowed the names of three
so I will write of those that would be for me.
There are so many that this is unfair
but, since that is the rule I must list there:

Carolyn Devonshire who gave me the courage to write
with her words of encouragement on this site.
She always found a "silver lining" in my work,
and never told me that I write like a jerk.

Tho it has been years since I've been around
her help and inspiration never set me aground.
She never left me twisting in the wind alone
as she helped my poorest works to hone.

There is also a Poet Destroyer for whom I have praise
I wish my words to her level I could raise.
Why her "Poet Destroyer" pen name I could never see
unless, of course, you compare mine to her poetry.

Mine is crushed by the words she can write
but I am ever grateful to her for wanting to put mine to flight.
When you have a writer who can put you to shame,
it's only natural that you want to do the same.

CayCay Jennings is my third choice
as she has helped me to "refind" my voice.
I appreciate her critiques of the work I do
all I can give is a big "THANK YOU".

She was one of the first to welcome me back here
and always gave me words of good cheer.
Her suggestions have been given with such grace
sometimes they put a smile on my face.

There is her writing which is also so stellar
as compared to mine, some of which belong in a cellar.
Some of the things she has written down
Have with me, a deeper meaning found.

So these are the three heroes that I must name
but so many more have done the same.
Not only are there poets whose names I could not call
to give them the honors they should have one and all.

Yes, I have heroes here unnamed
because my pen had to be tamed.
But know that I appreciate each and all that you do
Whenever I write, I'm thinking of you.

A battlefront benefactress,
She has her fortress, a fortified Princess, inside the dungeon of distress,
Tiled with the bone chips of ingratitude colored in pigments of black bright & rugid red,
An arrowhead chandelier illuminated by wicked tears, wet with woe,
Everybody saw her wedding dress, they all knew the warfield wardrobe,
But how many cared to touch her sorrow gown, how it hung on those exhausted shoulders,
The lilac one piece she wore for private pain,
Gain gauged by perseverence of self defense, vengence on Victory's tombstone,
How many visit that ceremony, where love is isolated amidst jealousy's cackle,
Do any of them frown with sympathy for the debt of her crown,
For every jewel in the tierra there exists a bruise upon her beautiful body,
An assault levied by the 'learned', the rape of a writer wrought by the wretchedly wanton,
Honors earned ransomed by pitiful rivalry, kindness taken in the grip of disingenuous delight,
Some say her very name is a curse, an anethema from some God foresaken moon,
Poet Destroyer, 'Too much nerve, too much passion' they exclaim,
Its only natural for her ingrown throne to be a thorn
In the fingertip of the editorial 'elite',
They know we will bleed for her grace like the children of wild sport,
The Poet Destroyer shall not hurt us as educators of deformity do,
She will not impose false limits on our brows,
She will not strike our eyes with rotten ink,
And look now you vultures of vice, we are Legion,
We are Brothers and Sisters of the Quill, raise your sight and behold our Worshipful Queen,
She rests not long in the sanctuary of her inner star, here we are,
Leading the war march towards you with captured & dried quills
Of imposter poets lashed to her sheild of cauterized parchment
Imprinted with the blessings of all literary Titans who have warred before,
We step forward While chanting in crazed concentration,
Oh woe to you,
Victors of vanity, victims of sanity!!!

This composition has been made in honor of the Poet Destroyer, aka. Linda,
A beautiful woman, a guiding Light, a warrior of liberated and Divine Art.

The Other's Name

"The Other’s Name"

Beautiful words
sonourous, they
produce the pretty
in the ugly of us all
written poetically
love calls us all in
passion first
above all

dripping honey
beautiful words
written poetically
love calls us all in
passion first
above all

the passion
calls forth
something outside
of lovers all
the well lit paths
of distant hearts
addressing the
undressing of all

baptismal
it’s only natural
to take first
the fall, deeply
submerged
we hold each
other tall sometime
where we share

the other’s name

Beautiful words
sonourous, they
produce the pretty
in the ugly of us all
written poetically
love calls us all in
passion first
above all

the Other’s name
calls
the lover in us all

Leap of Faith

Follow me to a ledge inside my mind & observe
as I leap
Many are very close to the edge but scared to jump
because they're weak
Being afraid to fall isn't the problem, it's only natural
to fear the crash
When you reach the bottom, you see yourself staring
back from a looking glass
Throw all your caution to the wind & feel the air beneath
your wings
A cage bird is free within its mind & you can hear it
when it sings
There are many things to fear in life, but fear itself is the
only cause
Don't be afraid to grow for that stunts your growth &
amplifies all your flaws
Cause & effect is natures law so it must be treated
with respect
Once I was blind to mothers' rules, but now I see
in retrospect
Have faith in self & take the leap, you just may be
caught before you fall
Once you let go, you'll see the truth, there was nothing
to fear after all

Blur the line

You open your mouth
And my breath comes out
My heart spilled on your chest
I know what happens next
Fingers intertwine
I’ll let you blur the line
As our souls collide
You are me and mine

It’s destiny, magnetic force
It’s only natural, I got no choice
It’s co regulation, a chemical bond
I’m tied up, and down, there’s no way around
If there’s no one to hear it, it still makes a sound

In the dead of night
There’s no black and white
No me and you
No wrong or right
I’m scared of my pen like I was born to write
That we’re two halves
Of a different whole
Trauma bond, alcohol
Dependency and Tylenol
Spin in a circle cause the daze gets me high
Truths and a lie
We’re getting by,
year by moment
wipe your tears on my chest
I know what happens next

Flan

Flan

The perfect dessert for me.
For it has the perfect texture , so consistent throughout.
It's gelatinous yet doughy body that is so sweet to the soul , tongue and mouth.
So beautiful and understating just like the perfect spouse.
But Pardon my manners If sometimes I wish to touch you with my hands and skip even using the spoon or fork.
Skip from I got to wait till you're done, to I can't wait to have some more.

Flan

Have had memories of you and I since back when grandmamma wasn’t so old,
and all I had to do was worry about what my abuelitos and parents told me.
When I finally saw you , suga it was like a dream come true.
Even if I was heavier than I should’ve been at 8 ,I would always take care of you.
And please listen to what I say because it’s only natural that as a former fat boy my words would also carry much weight.

Flan

There are so many types of you.
I've had the worst and the one's in between worse and in between.
But I've matured enough to expand my sense of taste and have acquired more than one sweet tooth.
But to only find out they don't even compare to you.

Flan

With your culinary curves it's almost as If I dishonored you with my failed homemade homages.
But can you blame my senses if I feel cozy around you?
Even though my comfort is only due to your confection,
you will always have my attention due to the enjoyment I feel in your presence,
For that I'' always say please and thank you.

Flan

With that cherry on top I just can't wait.
And I’ll see you, I’ll be picking you up at my abuelitas at eight.
I'll my bring my taste buds and you bring yourself.
But don't you worry about left over crumbs,
because I always clean my plate.

Premium Member Baring My Soul

I was the last of ten children in my family

Nine lovely girls and li'l ole me

Spoiled you may rightly assume

WRONG!

I was the sweetest well mannered offspring

That a parent could ever wish for

Even to the point of being withdrawn

All through my teenage years

I had an inferiority complex

Never thought the opposite sex

Would ever be interested in me

Early on in my career as a graphic designer

Things began to change dramatically

My success gave a new found confidence

And suddenly I saw myself in a different light

Which allowed me to open up my heart

And function as a normal, well-adjusted human

With all the ups and downs, the highs and lows

With all the hopes and dreams everyone possesses

Married Linda, when I was twenty-two

Linda was eighteen and wanted despareatly

To get out from under the control

Of an extremely dominating and controlling mother

Did she love me?

Looking back, I would say no

I was her ticket to freedom

Not a good way to start our married life together

Oh our marriage was a happy one at first

But knowing that she really didn't love me

I was always trying to MAKE HER LOVE ME

But I never felt like I succeeded

We had three kids of our own

And we adopted two others

Those adopted kids were my way of trying to tighten the bond

To give her everything she asked for

But I never ever felt that I succeeded

She passed away at fifty-nine from breast cancer

At the same time, her younger sister Cathie

Was going through a nasty divorce

We supported each through those difficult times

And it was only natural, we fell in love and married two years later

Cathie really does love me and for the very first time

I am happy and content with my life

Which is all I ever wanted...

Now you know my story!

Ode To Our Cat Tom

I know I should apologise but I ponder at my fault
I truly thought that every cat had abilities to vault
Most other times he ran away when I backed out of the drive
I mean it's only natural a cat's instinct to survive

I'll admit I've damaged other things like skateboards bikes and toys
But this time it was different you could tell so by the noise
Now the kids won't talk my wife won't talk I'm really in the pooh
Especially when I made that joke the one about cat stew

I said I'll buy another cat same type and age and fur
But unforgiving voices choired "He had a special purr"
What about a robot cat immune to hurt and pain
No support from either camp only looks iced with disdain

Eight times that cat survived a life with luck more apt than mine
I hap to be the luckless one who snuffed out number nine
Well old Tom I'm really sad and regret I did you wrong
So to prove my worth when I'm heaven bound I'll bring a mouse along

Sestina: Deforestation

Lost in the green, leafy space,
Resting on his back out in the country,
The old hermit picks himself up and stands.
He begins the morning trek in the forest
Admiring the nature filled scenery—
The last retreat from the world.

Here peace abounds outside the world,
The man tries to create his own space,
Freed from the concerns of his country.
The trees form a barrier, a final stand
Prohibiting the city from his forest,
Preventing pollution of the scenery.

But bits of the outside defile the scenery.
The sanctuary is attacked by the world
Who slowly chokes the living space—
Unaware or uncaring of the leafy country—
With weapons of garbage, smog. He stands,
Staring at a coke can in his forest.

It stands out on the grassy forest
Floor. It ruins the life-filled scenery.
Almost acting as a message from the world,
Telling the hermit this isn’t his space.
A reminder that they own the country,
And out of a whim he is allowed to stand,

He is given the privilege to stand,
To admire, to enjoy the nature made forest
Whose beauty can be erased from the scenery,
Leaving only overturned land for the world,
Ready to defile the hermit's sacred space
And strip the trees off the country.

The old hermit cries in this country,
Among the trees, the animals, he stands.
Beneath the sky, above the earthy forest
He prays. Since childhood this scenery
Stood out. As a kid he’d leave the world,
Finding a solace in this private space.

But now the hermit’s leafy forest in the country,
The only natural space left on the concrete world,
Is threatened. Unless he stands up for the scenery.

Tribal

Tribal beauties, all lined up,
eyes cast to the ground.
Young breasts bare and feet not shod.
Only natural beauty found.

The Zulu prince walks back and forth,
perusing for a bride;
While hopeful father's look on, tense,
Each displaying their loin's pride.

One of these will be a Queen,
Birth a Nation's next proud Chief.
With result, a father can live on....
Mortality's Relief.

I Learned How To Die a Long Time Ago

From the night I was born on a still midnight hour
I had to face many a trial
to cope with life's challenges.
Some called it baptism by fire,
others said it was only natural to keep a tough exterior.
So I learned,
I learned how to be patient,
endure the hard times
address my anger, fight my hatred,
to shed silent tears of virtue.
I learned about laughter,
of its healing power, soothing to the soul.
I learned to be silly,
to laugh at my troubles.
Knowing eventually, they always meet their expiration date.
I learned troubles give depth to life.
Time converts them from tragedy to comedy.
I learned life is tough, leaves your broken
heavy on the shoulders, leaves you drowning.
But, I've learned that as the water get deep, life throws you a line
Those silent tears form crystals from your eyes.
It makes you powerful.
All this I learned a long time ago.
To treasure the time,
until that cold bitter truth comes upon.
Poor mortal! Never knowing the day or hour
the shadow of death comes with his cold disposition.
So I've learned to embrace death.
I've learned to smile the biggest smiles.
I've learned to shed to most honest tears.
I learned how to do this,
all of it.
I learned it all,
a long time ago.

Nature Soup

we must follow the recipe closely
my little brother’s eyes widen in hope
I say, if not it will turn out grossly
and he asks if we can put in some rope
I wonder if his ears work - I say nope!

the ingredients are very precise
I tell him I don’t want to do this twice
only natural elements will do
four rose petals will be enough to entice
all the children in town, to crave our stew

one smooth stone and two wild berries for taste
a sprig of pine and a flower stomped flat
I counsel on picking, don’t chose in haste
little bit of this, little bit of that
but just enough so we will not get fat

I permit him to stir, with a clam hand
cautiously not letting in any sand
I secretly share my move, loop-D-loop
ensuring our dinner will not be bland
we shall be famous for our nature soup

Chocolate Covered Independence-Valentine's Day

Vividly, you can see that you're perfection is only natural.
Averting commercial tides, while you continue
Licking the uncooked cupcake batter off the spoon.
Excellence on its own merit, without any reused romantic tricks,
Noticing the lonely,
Tend to eat chocolate by the pounds while
Inside, their hearts swarm with bitterness
Nonetheless, all wise women should know,
Eating all your feelings never fills the emptiness
Such atrocities have "hopeless romantic" and
Danger written all over them, hence they must stop.
Applaud your independence and simply love
You.

Tinted Glasses

I look at the world through dark-tinted glasses these days.
My eyes seek out the dreary and lost,
My shaking words ghosting comfort over the broken and betrayed.

I can't be blamed for the lonely way I gaze at life.
At such a young age, my life has been filled with too many misunderstood tragedies.
My body is a pastel painting of the battles I've fought.
My soul is an open diary of the hits this wary vessel has suffered; easily read if one would only care enough to try.

When obstacle after obstacle slam into us like waves, it is only natural to lose hope.
I've been told that hope is nothing more than a cruel red herring.
Designed to ease us into the comforting embrace of failure.

I kindly disagree.
Without hope, I would've surrendered my life to the demons that claw at my insides long ago.
Hope is the only reason I can proudly say I'm still standing.

Have To

Debauch , the act

as it proceeds step over step

condemn with brand of evil

actor at the center

circum-loci the people with moral mentor

"motive ,means along with fruitful deeds

the devil caught with all rotten seeds"

decreed and screamed "kill this man

as soon as you can"

But 'due procedure of law'

had to ask him once , right hand clutching a saw

His aura still not fainted

the fool was logical and reason-tainted

"my crime's only natural and rationale",he cry

some laughed while others made relieved sigh

" O being, how dare to say those cruel words

we measure by meaning alone not mind's curse"

triumph of countless majority over minimum of one

"we are more so right, follow us or none"

"fate of individuality and one is to die

part of society thus no right to think and never ask why?"

rejoice and cheer!! the man was hanged atlast

pray God that no more unique and standouts or

have to kill each ...till the earth last

have to kill each ...till the earth last
