Halt this train of morose pondering
Arrest the mind of useless wandering
Will my beating heart quit floundering
Bring relief for this unrest

Make my soul a place of peace
Bid each day to bring release
Set in these bones the feel of ease
End the perseverance test

Beads of perspiration
form at my brow--
the liquid salt
rolls down the side

picking up speed
before plunging
