Premium Member Snow -A Sleep

Snow -
a sleep
descending on the twilight streets;
Snow, in silent fields you lie pristine
beneath moon’s glow, a blanket shimmering.
Oblivion serene!
Tranquilly envelop me in
Sleep -
a snow;
the more you fall, the deeper that I go
under.
Oh, sweet Slumber,
suffocate with pearly flakes
those of us the weary that repose,
long time having waited like the windrows.
As Boreas does blow,
lull and bury all in drifting, dreamy
snow.

Premium Member A Free Gift After the Rain

Lo! A spectrum of colors
In the misty cerulean sky
God’s benevolent gift graciously bestowed
After a light drizzle

A rainbow- nature’s lovely poem
Written on the widest canvas
An arch spanning the Earth and the heavens
A painting with colors overlapping
An art created by the crystalline prisms

Life expands and pulsates
Eyes are raised to a vision grand
Mind takes flight to Heaven’s glory

A transient reminder of the beauty promised for man
Warm in glow, radiant in splendor, emanating light, triggering joy,
Staying amid drifting clouds, waving at us in cheer

Oh eyes, feast on this celestial sight
This scintillating spectral aura
And get drowned in its magical spell!

Hey, why not ride upon the wind
To loot the pot of gold hidden at its tip!

Premium Member Yearn Not For the Ships That Sailed

Applauding sun’s halo~ inspiring, rewarding,
Mindfully I rise with the ebullient awakening
Letting soul enliven while robins are singing
And horizon crimson glimmers in dawning.

I hold time still for the blossoms of spring,
Rivers that burble sprucing green prairies
And blue tides bouncing summer’s revelry
And resplendent dazzle of autumnal leaves.

Every memento of love I treasure in delight,
In embrace of family, I cheer life sublime
Rejoicing when I sense success in their eyes
Celebrating milestones of things done right.

Realizing I own a mere fraction of eternity
Elated I feel holding just a speck of infinity
Succeeding more often than failing or quitting
Coping resolutely with poor hand of destiny.

I shun nightmares, choosing dreams of night
Lifting troubled mind when grief occupies,
When darkness rules, I invoke moonlit skies
And paint on visage of hope blissful smiles.

I yearn not for the ships that already sailed,
Regret not having tried the conquests I failed,
But I chase prospects of aspirations deferred
Yet, remain focused on things that matter.

Piercing screams slice the air
Creating a sense of joy with laughter
Coloring the moments in exhilaration
Left behind from some child’s imagination

Echoes of small feet darting and sprinting
Leaving stirrings of complete abandonment
The knowing that comes from sharing hours
Spent in breathless bliss, creating wonders
That last through the day and well into night
Stabbing at the hot sun and startling the stardust
Twinkles of a night breaking into angelic song

One little girl holds the jump rope’s end
As another child skips to the beat of its spin
Leaving another girl waiting by the oaks
Hoping to take a turn when the time is right

A small boy holds a ball and seems intent
On tossing it across the grassy field
Where so many others have played this game
Before, moving to the bases and shouting
With enthusiasm… children filled with elation

Dancing in waves of lavender and rose, azure tones
Caress the buttery sun with sincerity that comes
From knowing this is a day about to be spent swirling
Twisting and turning, spiraling out of control, thriving
In the kind, but fleeting hours that awaken gladness
And soothe the soul in seas of compassion and creativity
Discovered on the wings of fairies and friends who grow up
Together, on the playground that holds such charming memoirs

On this playing field, this playground, every soul is essential
A thought expressed by the one who knows that this world
Dances to life when their feet hasten across fresh grass
Leaving only the dreams to last beneath the melodies of dew
And sun, rain and moon, starry nights when every thought knows
The playground is where a yearning goes to find love alive inside
It is captured in the reflection of laughing eyes on every smile
From child to child – playing out the song inside their hearts!

 On the playground… there is butterfly dreams and kisses
From a breeze that whispers of serenity which brings
Faithful friends together on wonderous wings of innocence

On the playground… there is pure love

Light whispers through the shadows of my mind
Reflecting all the wonders inspired there
Hues of joy, inspirations to spellbind
Hopes so alive within psalms and prayer

Stardust dreams flow across beautiful praise
Coming from a heart who knows only me
Kindness singing through feelings that amaze
Silencing all worries so I’m carefree

Brilliant passions blaze to life in my heart
And I know no one knows silence so right
Grace from above grows so that I impart
Wisdom beyond my musings which excite

The reason I’m just me never puzzled
Still, some might find they’re rather bumfuzzled

Premium Member Bitter-Sweet Memories

Most times, there was just the three of us Most times, we would escape without a fuss

It was a 'Back of the Bus' kind of experience Actually, it was worse, because there was 'no Bus'

It's like this: In my neck of the woods, there was a big PLAYGROUND, but one built just for 'Whites Only', and

we were Black. It wasn't that we didn't know, nor that we couldn't read. It's just that we wanted to PLAY, and

did not really care about anything else. We knew that if we were caught, the three of us would have to 'kick up dust',

because someone would run us off. That PLAYGROUND was equipped with the strongest swings, merry-go-round, and sliding board.

I tell you, kids were born to PLAY, and when that time came, and the coast was clear, fear of racism disappeared. In the minds

and hearts of Dennis, Johnnie, and myself, the 'spirit of PLAY' appeared and we, like gangbusters, rushed to the great forbidden PLAYGROUND.

Growing up in The South during the 50's was a bitter-sweet experience; but today, it's a little sour, but mostly a very sweet memory.

When I was little it was off to the playground we would go,                                                                                 my cheeks would have a rosy pink glow.                          I loved when I was pushed in the swing,                          going through the breeze made me want to sing.              Then I grew up,                                                              I was no longer that young pup.                                      The years came and it was now time to date,                    off to the playground we went then played and ate.          We would swing and swing,                                              old memories from young it did bring.                              Many years later I had a child,                                        now off to the playground he smiled.

Sitting with one elbow on the table
Hand on chin resting my tired neck- I think
Why am I not that bird on that cable
Why am I not yellow, purple or pink

Why am I not that seed that grows a tree
Why am I not that cloud that spills the rain
What happened- how did I come to be me
Why do I have feelings of love and pain

Why am I not the sun that shines so bright
Why am I just one thing and not many
Why am I not the stars that glow at night
Why am I not a shiny new penny

I guess what I am is just meant to be
For the lord only knows, why- am I me

Premium Member Grandma- My Motivation

My grandma has been my motivation,
she helped me with her fortitude;
teaching me poetry in our solitude,
'till my writing could not be subdued !

Writing poetry has been my salvation,
it is a hunger-  a need and wish;
but holding a word is like catching a fish,
you think you have it and it goes swish !

Grandma said write it- make a worthy creation,
so, I write of my life honesty braving;
oh, I can write on any theme poetically raving,
or with sadness write about a grave engraving !

The life of a poet is full of deep frustration,
night dreams help me to calm my thirst;
while during the day in penning I am immersed,
oh, this poetry writing urge cannot be reversed !

Not creating words now- would be starvation,
I can hear Grandma whispering write it;
even in the moonlight- just don't quit,
until you can press transmit and submit !

There is happy ado on the old farmstead as Yuletide draws nigh!
Wondrous things to savor as gales blow and snow begins to fly!
The tempest rages for days - they will surely be snowbound,
But a blazing fire warms the Victorian home - love and cheer abound!

Since early in July Pa has had his eye on a special evergreen tree.
It now graces the parlor and they dance about it with glee!
Brightly lit candles adorn branches of the perfectly shape fir.
'Neath lies The Babe - The Magi offering frankincense, gold and myrrh.

The boys have hefted armloads of wood from the oak tree grove,
For Ma and the girls to cook delectable fare on the wood-burning stove.
Titillating aromas waft from room to room in the gracious old house,
From the roasting goose, venison and tender prairie grouse!

Rusty the dog and Simba the cat lie snuggling nigh the fire.
The family gathers 'round the old pump organ for an impromptu choir.
Bellowng off-key, Pa leads them in carols, all ln spirited mirth,
And later by the hearth, Pa reads the story of the Savior's birth.

The ancient grandfather clock tolls ten- the kids are shooed to bed.
Ma and Pa place presents 'neath the tree in old Santa's stead.
With a twinkle in his eyes, Pa steals a kiss 'neath the mistletoe!
The excited kids scarcely snooze listening for Santa's Ho! Ho! Ho!

Premium Member First Bloom

Though brief, it was a time I’ll always treasure.
Its essence shines, undimmed by fleeting years.
That June was filled with pleasure beyond measure.
First bloom of love was sweetest of premieres.

At summer camp, a boy so cute and funny
became my friend--then boyfriend, very soon.
His brilliant smile made rainy days seem sunny.
His arm around my shoulder made me swoon.

With close of camp and time together pending,
we stole a kiss and promised “Every day,
I’ll call” and “Many letters I’ll be sending.”
Such fervor fourteen-year-olds’ words convey!

   Though youth, with its first love and freshness, flees,
   we celebrate it through our memories.

Gibbs Free Energy

I am teetering at the brim of progress
The self I spend to be of worth
Is the same self that I had to earn

And to what end?
I ask,
At what fee?
The ones that stand down do so for free

And all that’s left is work for me
(Fr ,

         PdV)

I hauled up, masochistic Sisyphus
All they did was balk
Scatter, Jack and Jill
Emptily talk
About how hard, how far
Never
I could not

And then for an instant I was on top

[King parenthetical]

They stood with their calculators
Screaming

But negative RTlnKeq ???
Kb T times ln W   ???
Enthalpy minus T entropy,
Gives us the standard energy ???

I saw the people finally sap
It was halfway forward to halfway back

I felt something snap

And I fell unfathomably far
To a different bottom
A different problem

I stood intermediate at the foot of the unknown
Before a taller peak to dethrone

--
Note: Gibbs Free Energy (delta G) is a thermodynamic parameter used to describe reactions and stability in chemistry. It is common to see a diagram of delta G vs. reaction progress. These free energy diagrams consist of continuous curves with peaks and troughs. The lower the energy, the more stable.

Unfortunately you have to have significant background knowledge in chemistry to understand every reference.

Treasure of Love

Nothing is found, except
it is hidden,
Nothing is hidden, except
it is a secret;
Nothing is a secret except
it is a treasure.
Beloved,
you are a secret treasure
hidden to be found.
Indeed,
you are a goddess of
beauty.
When l behold your eyes l
see love,
l see us in you.
When l weighed your
mind, l found courage,
when you smile my heart
smiles.
When you speak the
burdens of my heart are
lifted up.
In my dreams is you that l
see,
ln my nostrils is you that l
breath,
ln my heart is you that
braves me,
ln my visions is you that l
picture,
ls you that l capture.
When l first saw you,
l met a stranger.
As l talked with you,
l discovered a divine
embodiment with
character and charisma.
As l thought of you,
l discovered my friend.
As l came closer,
l discovered my missing
rib.
As l walked with you,
l found my wife.
When l gazed at your
beauty,
a spell of love gripped me.
I felt a sigh of relief in my
heart.
You have l loved and you
will l love.
Loving you means so
much to me,
beholding your
immaculate beauty
beautifies the glory of
our future.
My tears and fears is to
lose you.
I am perfected in your
love,
you are the tender spirit
of my heart,
the one that softens my
heart;
your love have stolen my
heart away.
I've never been so much
in love,
not until l met you.
Losing you means loss of
countless memories to
me,
ln loving you have l
understood the worth of
true and genuine love.
My soul bleed for the
moment of our union as
one.
I long for the moment
when we shall cleave
together as birds in the
sky,
singing the songs of love
together as one,
shearing in an everlasting
happiness.
Then shall l tell you how
much you mean to me,
how effective your spell
of love have gripped me.
We're not only humanly
designed for each other,
we're divinely designed
from each other.
My love for you is forever

Cape Cod Boy

A warring feat
expands beneath
petite and huge contends,
a unique line
tugging the brine
taunting as it suspends,
a juvenile
bear naught a smile
a glimpse enigma lends,
too close to shore
new hopes implore
that cod and haddock wends,
true tasty meats
fresh scene unseats
entreaties pleased extends,
aspect well made
fulfilled persuade
the wait, the catch godsends.

Praise I Embrace

When the struggles and grudges of life weakens me down to my bones and marrows,
And l have none to strengthen me;
The grace of praise l embrace will quicken and be my strength.
When the devil fires an arrow of sorrow towards me,
ln order to narrow my passion for the vision of my mission in life;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my shield.

When the challenges and pains of life groomed in fears,
Strains my heart to rain down tears;
And l have none to comfort me;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my comfort.
When life seems so tough and my challenges becomes too hot to bear,
And l have none to bear my burdens with me;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my refuge.

When my enemies directs their weapons of destruction and distraction towards me,
ln order for me to leave my dreams, visions and life ambitions unpushed,
The grace of praise l embrace will shield me and inspire me never to retire until l am discovered.

When l am frustrated, distressed and stressed in the battles of life,
And l have none to console or encourage me to move ahead;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my fortress and my solace.
When my feet becomes feeble in the faculty of life,
And l have none to uphold me to be strong;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my strength and shelter.

When temptation, trials and tribulation engulfs me like a mother hen engulfs her chicks,
And l have none to unveil me;
The grace of praise l embrace will unveil me and announce me to my world.
When l am battered, shattered and scattered in the battles of life,
And l have none to come to my rescue;
The grace of praise l embrace will gather me up and put me together.

When l kneel before the creator and maker of heaven and earth in prayer,
And l know not how to present my matters before him;
The grace of praise l embrace will speak on my behalf.
When l am knocked down on my feet by the struggles and battles of this life,
And l have none to raise me up;
The grace of praise l embrace will raise me up.
