Best Little One Poems
A hardened and disciplined man drove to the grocery store lost in thought,
with setting of sun, the long day's work almost found it's end.
Hoisting his daughter to shoulder, he walked from the parking lot,
and barely noticed her hair smelled of shampoo and pool chlorine blend.
He searched for fresh loaf of bread, and pound of peaches,
careful to tally up each purchase with well-honed skill.
With family's dinner waiting, and worn wallet short on wages,
thinking, that tank of gas will have to wait, and hoped it will.
Looking up from the myriad of baby food jars in the next aisle,
slowly he became aware, as a dense fog clears on a whim.
Now noticed a woman with mouth played in a strange smile,
her instinctive gaze fixed on something behind him.
He turned to see what elicited her quizzical beam,
and his heart melted at the sight in the shopping cart.
A straw haired helper, fast asleep, slumped over in a girl's charmed dream,
her little head now resting against his arm.
The day's worries quickly fled, tough exterior, now stripped senseless,
life's hard lesson and true measure of a man's love now shown.
Left wondering how a resting child could leave one so defenseless,
and that, which a man holds important..,could be so wrong.
Epilogue
I live the rest of my days wiser and more carefree.
For my darling little one, it wasn't I that carried you,
but you that carried me.

on this night I sit and stare
to my surprise such illumination I see
a glorious clear black sky
countless shining stars
showing themselves for hopes and dreams
such glitters this night know not why
they reveal no resolve for my life or path
in my heart I know they're placed for me
they whisper your strength is true
giving recognition of pain gone through
I continue to stare and hear their call
both sky and star tell me to ask not why
why black clouds and life have neglected me
tenderly whispering this you are not defined
I see the changing sky as moments pass
ever gently it moves and shifts back to me
telling me worry not little one you're never alone
never have you been or will be
one day all will be answered and revealed
until then hold strong be strong be you
continue on little one through pain or tears

a fine lady , no doubt , but game is not lame

Soft night has come my little child, so rest
Come lay your head upon your mother’s breast
Oh close your eyes and listen as she sings
And soon you’ll hear the sound of angel wings
Come drift away into the land of dreams
Where fairies dance and smile while sunlight gleams
Oh come and float among the clouds of white
No harm can stir within this world of light
Come laugh and play with fluffy cotton sheep
You’ll clap and sing and they will run and leap
Then come return into your warm, soft bed
Let evening kiss you softly on your head
Oh sleep until the night at last is done

The stars were not in the sky
streets burdened by darkness
my anger made the moon beams hide

My dearest little one, my how fast time has flown
you came and life exploded upon us and in us too
Such trials and tribulations came with your birth
yet now, we find the treasure that is you
the songbird that sings to the TV,
the cowboy shooting loud cap-guns,
the superman, jumping from couch to couch
the little climbing squirrel in the small tree.
Years have past and your greatest gift is you
a gem of magnificent beauty in our hearts and eyes
O' the many deep worries you've put us through
yet, the blessing you are has all that overcame,
for in your eyes rests our souls,
in your hands rests our beating hearts,
in your words we hear our love returned
in your life we find ours blessed and magnified!

Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry
Some days I live, some days I die
Sometimes I stand tall, sometimes I fall
Then I pace the floor, then I pound the wall.
Give me relief from the towering grief
The harrowing pain when we speak your name

Some days I wonder is it worth going on
Some days it hits you and some days it's me
Some days we're drowning in a merciless sea.

Good night little one
The time has come for you to sleep,
Without whines or groans or shuffling feet.
I'll tuck you in with your teddy at your side,
Hoping that in peaceful sleep you'll soon reside.
But the night brings forth it's very worst,
The howls and scratches of monsters cursed.
Silhouettes fill your room and head with fright,
You scream and in a flash I turn on the light.
You rush into my arms and say, “I'm scared,
The monsters came and their teeth they bared.
I thought for sure they'd eat me whole,
with just their claws; no spoon or bowl.”
Holding you tight, I smile, and wipe away your tears.
Then softly say, “My dear child, you should not fear.
Though the night bring faint noises and the dark,
To their howls and whispers we should not hark.
The howl is just the wind blowing through the trees.
Raining down orange and red bright colored leaves.
The scratches are the branches lightly tapping the window,
Asking the curtains to open and to let in the moons glow.
The shadows you see are your most beloved toys
That through out the day you very much enjoy.”
Smiling, I kiss your forehead and tuck you back in.
I hand you your teddy and you give me a big grin.
And as I am about to turn off the light you say,
“But what if something does come to take me away?”
Smiling I say“I promise, in a blink of eye I'll be here,
To shield you of all monsters and creatures of fear.
Now sleep little one and worry no more.
I'll not let anything harm you; this I am sure.”
Smiling you turn and fall happily to sleep,
Knowing that my promise I'll surely keep.

What does she have to make me feel this way?
What does she do that makes her huge one sway?
When she makes her huge one sway
Rainbows rush to paint their play
All day he wants to be with her, so he stays
But what does she have, to make him feel this way....
A cozy home, I found in her arms~
Beautiful she, a canopy flooding love
When I lay my head upon her shoulders,
I'm tall, she's small, but we're we...
Nightly our bodies meet to know if we're we
Vacation times passed, we glided in merry sweet
Darling, behold, my gaze that softly speaks:
our true love banner bearing no defeat
Always with you, I plunge deep the ocean floors
as there in your arms-- I've found heaven's door.
Chest to chest with you I've reached Everest's peak
our heartbeats ride a supple frenzy heat
What does he have to make me feel this way?
What does he do that makes her little one sway?
When he makes her little one sway,
blinking twin stars shines to say
All day she wants to be with him, so she stays
What does he have to make her feel this way....
I read "forever" mirrored in his eyes:
his soul's windows, uttering no disguise
When together...we glow afire of wonder
Memories, we weave to always remember
If ever parted, I will be blue,
hence for always, I pray: "May God see us through"
Genes we yearn to spill, soon we will, we will.
as we want to build one, 'lil nation with care
He and I, two babies, we want in between.
Sugar, spices, all blend to colour our life
as our words wound, amidst webs of dreams.
We embrace strong in our esteem,
strangers whose eyes witness our affair
Unstoppable they say: "We are a lovely pair",
Forever in love, our aim shall be
Huge one, little one, will become more than thee!

I wrote this poem this morning and read it at a baby shower for Naty Acuna, a good friend of mine from Argentina. Andres, her husband, is the University chaplain and men's dean. Naty is the women's dean. We are blessed to have them at Middle East University. They have come as missionaries. Yes, they will have a baby girl. They will name her Emma. :)
