Best Life Lessons Poems
Try not to be too shy to tell someone how you really feel,
be adventurous and always try new things even if it’s scary-
Take advantage of the beautiful moments, they can heal,
you may never know how someone can be so caring.
Take chances on love, be courageous and daring.
Compromise is important but don’t change who you are,
for small romantic gestures can go a very long way-
Don’t be afraid to enjoy special moments under the stars,
sometimes a touch means more than words can say.
Awake every morning as if it was a fresh new day.
Life is just a series of moments strung together,
there may be arguments, but forgiveness can bring grace-
Sometimes in the beginning you just know love’s forever,
you can tell just by the look upon your beloved’s face.
Make sure your sense of humor you never erase.
Your heart may not always care about being logical,
for the heart wants what it wants even if it’s unlikely-
Living a long life with someone can be quite magical,
there’s nothing like starting a loving family.
Allie and Noah Jr. died together in heavenly harmony.

I once met a broken heart ,
It said it longed for love.
And it'd been yearning so long !
It said there's no God above.
.
For if there was, a God there,
It wouldn't have to suffer.
And live a life that had ,
Made its survival tougher.
.
So , I asked it to look within ,
If some bit of the love had lasted,
And it came out grieving ,
That out of the blues ,
it had in fact found a casket !
.
And there within the casket lay ,
All the love it longed , it sighed.
Sadly though through pure negligence,
Now all that love had died .
.
For, since years the heart had been to lands , water and cliffs ,
In hopes of finding some love that belonged it bit by bit.
It had cried and craved for love that was so far,
Never had it cared enough to look into his own jar.
You love yourself ,
God loves you back,
The poor heart didn't know!
And that is the purest love to find ,
May wherever you go.
It is okay to make a mess, I will not love you any less.
Eat chocolate, eat French fries, be happy because time flies.
Skip rope, climb a tree, let your inner child always run free.
Feel the sun shine upon your hair, watch the moon when it is there.
Wish upon a star, believe, dream, no matter how silly that may seem.
Listen to music, sing along, but hear the words of the song.
Read long stories, get lost in a book, find yourself a quiet nook.
Write lyrics, write poetry, and don't be afraid to let others see.
Take photographs, keep them and then, look back and remember when.
Know you will always have a home, even if you decide to roam.
Care about people, animals, too, but don't let worry overwhelm you.
Love your life as best you can, even when it is not what you plan.
Reflecting on my life
A lifetime of lessons learnt along the way
Some harder than others
Still learning to this day
I have learnt the importance of kindness
The power it truly holds
Just a small act of kindness
Positive changes will enfold
I have learnt the importance of loved ones
The true meaning of loving unconditionally
To cherish the ones who surround me
Enjoying time together making special memories
I have learnt the importance of using my voice
To share my positive thoughts
Never keeping the positives silent
Life is here then gone and “Yes …..way too short”
I have learnt the importance of not “stressing the small stuff”
As its significance in the big picture is nil
Only concerning myself with matters that warrant worry
As worry and stress can make you ill…..or worse kill !
I have learnt the importance of humility
Honesty, integrity, respect, worth
Applying them as best l can
While l walk this precious earth
I have learnt the importance of differences
Of acceptance and equality
Try to not to judge or criticise
To the best of my ability
I have learnt the importance of gratitude
To appreciate life and all it beholds
To savour precious moments and times
Life goes by so fast and before you know it you are old!
I have learnt what is most important “to me”
What “ I” value most on earth
For me “It is loving others and being loved”
Being happy and appreciating life’s worth
Life is definitely an ongoing work in progress
Life lessons are not always easy to maintain
We often face hurdles and hardships
Where we use learnt lessons and begin to learn new ones again!
Taken from their hands,
was the land they never visited.
Taken from the mind,
is the life they couldn't grasp
Imaginations were whisked away,
dreams dashed,
souls shattered.
Each kid forced to grow up, and use a broom.
Taught to sweep up, to clean up.
Just to keep their families alive.
Kids I know complain because WiFi is slow,
their phones were taken away.
Oh no! They can't go to the mall with friends.
Why yes, kids have jobs.
Only some and not all. Many don't need a job just to survive,
they want high school credits so they can have a spare block.
Some kids have jobs because they need to help out their families,
then they get in trouble for missing class because they got home at midnight,
slept in and missed first block and rush to school and get kicked out for missing too much school.
Yet we still look at the problems that aren't as important as LIFE!
We look at how the government can make more money,
what forest we can chop down and build Wal-Marts and McDonald's!
How to stop refugees from taking jobs from people.
But I haven't ever talked in class about how to help the poor, and how to balance work and school. Never how to support a family of 6.
But I have been taught how to dance the Cadillac ranch. Watched movies on Geisha's and Super size me.
But never
was I Taught anything that meant something to
Me.
So thanks life lessons.
Lets go dance, or watch some T.V
Soaring above the cloud strewn sky
I'm centered enough to question why.
When no one seeks your reprimand
you think they have their heads in sand.
Life lessons are so hard to grasp
if you refuse a hand to clasp.
So hold your head up ,listen well.
In depth of silence there's truth to tell.
You may feel you're not in control
as if you have a well bruised soul.
Yet you've designed this tapestry.
In light of it all you are still free.
written by Deb Wilson
The motif I chose is philosophical
He floats and curves
And sways and swerves.
Never to balk.
The red-tail Hawk.
---
She's grounded in search
Of worms, on the lurch.
Her head always bobbin'
The red red Robin.
---
His voice ne'er the same
A song fit for fame.
His tune is his word.
Melodic Mockingbird.
---
She jumps and darts
The leaves she parts.
Her brood she must tend
Oh Carolina Wren.
---
His plumage so bright
Color red just right.
Claiming his ward 'n all
Possessive Cardinal.
---
Each oh so different
Their shape, color, song,
Teach us a lesson...
How to just get along.
*** Life’s Growing Joy Poem Within a Poem ***
My 70’s may be the decade
For reaching my pathway’s
Ends and Epiphanies: a service of ‘Lessons and Pains’
— To help my growing….
For example, Truths that I heard repeatedly,
I now believe well enough to take
My spirit from Dreams to Actuality — metaphorically then —
— I lean into the sky as a noteworthy Gnarly Tree…
Also a lesson such as, ‘God lives within us,’ although
It’s hard for me to understand why Our Holy God opts
To be threading through these rickety,
— These creaking and oddly angling limbs….
Plus, like so many of the eternal, quite externally-wrought necesities
Are thought to bring to us every happiness: from wealth or friends;
Or, all the sweet, easy hours of comfort soaking in starlight and sun,
— Ignoring the wildly waving grass underneath…
The knowing of happines raises its cherished supports not from beyond,
But from within hearts treasuring freedom and wonder,
Focussed on what is Other — in those moments when ego’s set aside —
— While divinely coaxed roots of Joy, grow deeper, longer
Through time, betwixt Heaven and Earth to blessedly radiate and thrive…

is a service called “Lessons and Carols,” telling the story of the birth of Christ.
** Please note! This could be considered an “Experimental” Poem, because, in a 2nd read, following the dashes, there IS to be found a poem-within-a-poem. Hope you enjoyed them both! Hugs & blessings,

i once almost killed a man with egos bare hands, fortunate irregular heart murmurs and force fed blessings saved us both -
i once tried it all because i couldn't bear to fall, i couldn't hold on to the broken home smiles in which i'd crawl -
i once drew a portrait kept beneath lock and key, knowing all along anyone could see it was me, peering out hearts cavity -
i once smiled to myself and had to look and see if i was alone, truth is rare and these moments i am prone -
i once felt the sun upon my skin and realized my love is not my friend, a sinking swirling hurt dancing in the wind -
i once made a human contribution to a drama filled production, accusations worn like an emperor who had no clothes -
i once saw inspiration in a rock, how could i possibly know for sure it's message was clear, to run not walk -
i once came upon a carefully laid trap, there was a gap in my hesitation and soon i was singing rages favorite childhood song -
i once met a homeless man wavy hair and suspenders, he said god held his hand, and that he'd never said it'd be easy -

Find the 'you' within
You are an individual
we are to be who we are made to be
It's okay to be different
Do not be afraid
It is only in tumbling we learn to walk
in falling off a bike we learn to ride
When we understand
we don't need to try to be someone else
We will find a peace in our acceptance
Just the other day I cried
cried for mummy’s arms
I wouldn’t have let anyone else hold me
everything to me she was
the only being I knew with superpowers.
Mummy look what I found..
throw that away my dear it will harm you
mummy teach me how to tie my laces
son think of a rabbits ears… genius isn’t she?
Mum I got hurt... come ill apply some herbs to it…
come here son be a man
the lion of the homestead he never cries never,
I got an "A" I know you are just like me
what do you expect?
Daddy I failed in my exams..
a frown on his face
that you didn’t get from my side of the family
go and talk to your mother.
he hated me grew up in
thought that he was rude grew up in fear.
Now the world has changed
almost saying goodbye to ...“mummy a lollipop, shoe, book
I can’t imagine mummy I need rent HUH!
That is not manly I now understand HIM daddy
an eagles feather is only found in the nest on the longest tree
the world has swallowed me
teaching me that independent is what I should be
just like daddy used to say slowly,
carefully beating me into being like daddy
I now know him
why so strict
why so silent
why so scary mh mh mh
I now know why his laughter and
anger seemed to be married
The smile I put on,
the tears that almost come out of me,
the car am about to drive,
mention them an infinite list I have
a hard Working strong independent man I am...
all I got from my African mamma and papa
Grief took me by the hand
Lead where I didn't want to go
Straight into the valley of tears
That began to constantly flow
Now that grief had acquainted me
With sorrow in the vale of tears
It seemed at eternal spring of weeping
Was where I would constantly live
Then grief brought me up the mount
Where loved ones went before
When escorted in this place
The lessons to which exposed
Seems now working my way back
Changed forever from that meeting
Grief an aquaintance I had spurned
But now after the greeting
I will never be the same
Though given another hundred years
Grief taught me more in a few short fears
Than joy with all her pleasings
To love God* above all is such a great lesson
That’s to esteem Him with pure heart’s reason
Seeking Him ceaselessly by His light’s beacon
As my life’s fully surrendered to Him, I reckon.
To fear the Lord with reverence is truly vital
Doing so for wisdom-gaining is fundamental
To keep me from sin that’s perilous and fatal
Moving me to His blessings in their grand total.
To trust God’s Word is a principle I cherish
As my faith stands midst philosophies that easily perish
Upheld by His truth mere opinions can’t tarnish
In His confidence He does readily furnish.
To stay in His will is what I must remember
For that’s the best choice I have as a saved sinner
I’ll abide in Him, by His mercy, quitting never
Blooming where He planted me in His grace and power.
To flee from worldly influences is my firm conviction
Overcoming pride, flesh and vanity’s temptation
As I walk through the Spirit’s confirmation
While in His fellowship I bring to Him my petition.
To follow godly instruction is my commitment
Obeying His commands gives me sense of fulfillment
Reaching His standards sets my heavenly attainment
Pleasing Him thru my stewardship’s assignment.
To serve God, working with joy is to me so exciting
While depending fully on His might that’s uplifting
I strive to be His steward humble for His instructing
Laboring for Him is a great privilege worth appreciating.
*Mark 12:30 “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

Why be afraid to admit the truth,
When the truth is all we have?
If when one door closes, another one opens,
why even dare looking back?
The following sentence is false,
The previous sentence is true.
Always accept a challenge,
what do you have to lose?
When you love someone so much, you hate them,
Now that’s true love.
There’s no harm in spending life as a chicken,
if you dont want to be a dove.
Everyone learns
Faster on fire.
So don’t let it control you,
act on desire.
All life is just a slot machine,
And it’s your turn to bet.
Life is a foreign language,
We all mispronounce it.
The best man never wins.
The good always die young.
We all have a face only a mother can love,
Don’t ruin it by a slip of your tongue.
Learn from others’ mistakes,
And by God! Make your own.
Always respect your mother,
I don’t want to hear that tone.
Life is like a box of chocolates
You never know what you’re going to get.
You know the best thing about pain?
It lets you know you’re not dead yet.
Life sucks, get a helmet.
Stand tall, fight hard.
Life’s a hand of poker,
We all get dealt a bad card.
Don’t outsmart your common sense.
Don’t bend until you break.
When times get tough, suck it up.
Because sometimes it’s all you can take.
Never play not to lose,
Always play to win.
Keep the key to your heart in good hands,
So only true love can get in.
Just because there are cactuses in the world,
Doesn’t mean you have to sit on them.
If you decide to wear the pants in the family,
You better learn how to hem.
Love is a battle field,
Dreams can come true.
Just have realistic dreams,
That’s all you have to do.
But don’t forget to live for now,
And don’t leave anywhere without a knife,
Because everybody will fight for an easy ride,
On the merry-go-round that we call life.
