“Suddenly they all fell off the edge into the sky, where they all turned into stars."
“One day, as they danced, they found themselves rising little by little into the air, their heads being light through hunger. How this happened they did not know, but one said, “Do not look back, for something strange is taking place”. A woman, too, saw them rise and called them back, but with no effect, for they still rose slowly above the earth. She ran to the camp, and all rushed out with food of every kind, but the children would not return, though their parents called piteously after them. But one would even look back, and he became a falling star. The others reached the sky, and are now what we call the Pleiades, and the Onondagas Oot-kwa-tah. Every falling or shooting star recalls the story, but the seven stars shine on continuously, a pretty band of dancing children.”

The Rise Of The Broken
Oh, yes I am a refugee
They say I grew in the sea
But my late grandpa taught me how to swim on dry land and sand
Never let the gratitude of the waters dread your passion
Dive deep into your thought and champion your determination
My late grandpa was shot and stabbed in the back
He barked loud, that memory doesn’t make my dreams shot
My blood is still hot to melt the colder and my heart still pump ideas
My ideas drive me fast like gears
My great grandpa had two wives
War and division
But here I wear peace and solutions
He said Wende Ukaweke Salama
Live in Dzaleka kama kwa mama
This is not a drama, it’s the rise of the broken
Don’t let the chains on your legs limit your movement
You are free just like your uncle Mandela
Never let the fears of being detained in prison kill your dreams and ambitions
Let them build your esteem to flow like a stream of honey
I know you like it
But how do you appreciate the bees bite
How do you feel after failing a life quiz
How do you feel being squeezed like lemon
How does it feel being ignored like a demon
I know it doesn’t sound right but this is quiet right
I know we are kind of free but trapped in a quadrat.
I thought because they said I was I goat I would never grow wings
Just because I was a slave I would never be king
Just because I was servant I would never be queen
That’s not true
You can be anything so long as you work for it. I thought I would be somebody
But now I am myself
Just because you are broken it doesn’t mean your hopes are broken
Your future is bright and not broken
Your power is just within yourself and not taken
So rise, like the rising sun
Peace to the warm heart of Africa “Malawi”

I AM HIV/AIDS
Saint Luke predicted me long time ago,
While the Book of Revelation warned you about me.
I am raging like a wild fire,
I am growling like a lion,
I have spotted you and I will pounce on you!
I am HIV/AIDS!
I attack people in all socio-economic and educational classes,
I cut across cultural and religious sects,
Graves and hospitals bear this testimony.
Despite significant medical accomplishments,
I remain incurable,
I am HIV/AIDS
From Africa to America, Australia to Asia and Artantica to Europe.
From Cape Provinces to Limpopo and Mpumalanga to Kwa-Zulu / Natal.
From Bekkersdal to Grobblersdal and Makapanstad to Marabastad.
From Sun Valley to Sun City and Mamelodi to Mametlhake.
From Witlagte to Langlagte and Suiwerskuil to Kromkuil.
I am reigning, I am HIV/AIDS.
Woe for the earth and for the sea,
Because I have descended in great anger to devour you!
I refer to you, who do not abstain,
I mean you there, who are not faithful,
And you here who do not condomise,
For I am HIV/AIDS.
Media has warned you,
Priests have preached at the top of their voices,
Politicians have cried loud,
Organizations and institutions have given you warnings,
But all these have come to naught,
Now I will kill you like flies, for I am HIV/AIDS
This is not news to you,
You will certainly catch me through unprotected sex,
Shared infected needles and syringes, contaminated blood,
And from an infected mother to her unborn child.
I then multiply in your blood, mercilessly attacking
Your defence system and leave you for the dead,
For I am HIV/AIDS.
You know this fully well;
You cannot catch me through
Sneezing, sharing toilet seats, coughing,
Or shaking hands with an infected person.
Behold, even if you are not infected,
You are affected by me, for I am HIV/AIDS.
Even though I am dreadful and mighty,
I will finally die and my heart is sore,
That will be when sense is finally knocked in your head,
That will be when you abstain from sex,
You remain faithful to your partner or condomise,
Remember, prevention is better than cure, for I am HIV/AIDS!
Wasema subira yavuta kheri,
Kamba iliyovuta kheri yakatika,
Yakatika na Uzito wa huba, uliojawa na mahaba,
Na safari ya mapenzi, iliyojaza sheheni,
Kwake nimetia Nanga, sihitaji kivuko,
Nasema hivi, Nitaolewa kesho.
Haba na haba hujaza kibaba,
Kibaba kilichosheheni mapenzi ya Dhati,
Moyo ukafurika, kwa pepo za mapenzi yake,
Sihitaji feni zenyu, kwake upepo napata,
Nasema hivi, Nitaolewa kesho.
Safari ndefu ya mapenzi, iliyojawa machafuko,
Chombo alishikilia usukani, captain wa mapenzi,
Zake huba haziyumbishwi, kwa nyangumi au papa,
Nasema hivi, Nitaolewa kesho.
Hayawi hayawini sasa, yamekuwa na kunenepa,
Yanini kukondeana, wakati twashibana,
Sifurukuti hafurukuti, mapenzi Ndiyo nguzo yetu,
Nasema hivi, Nitaolewa kesho.
Yalianza kama chemichemi, sasa yafurika kama bahari,
Ilikuwa ni bahati, kufurika kwake hivi,
MUNGU AKITUJALIA, Hii ya kesho tatimia,
NASEMA HIVI, NITAOLEWA KESHO

See you are an artistic Picasso in a life form
Art with beauty sharper than lightning in a storm
A voice that resembles a classic love song
Composed from guitar strings and piano keys
Thoughts of you….. Long breath…..heart skipped a beat
My tongue praising the truth of your beauty
An African Queen blazing fire indeed
Pink blushes from your yellow bone skin
Picture our lips lock like a daylight dream
Framed in gold, I’m wishing for a never ending stream
As my ink dries on paper, words fade like vapor
May the darkness shiver as light shines upon you
May the rivers forever take refuge in your beautiful smile
May the winds find peace in your shining eyes
Now and forever till the end of time….

Swahili to English verse
May your day be clad in bright chitenge (colorful flowing garments)
and your ears filled with the music of falling waters!
Lwa mitonda , kaizeli! (We miss you, sister!)
See us run with arms outstretched
like the wings of an airplane
because, if we could, we would fly to you;
see our encircling, turning legs
like those of sprinting cyclists
because, if we could, we would pedal to you;
see us hop, in a sitting posture
like that of a crazy taxi driver
because, if we could, we would race to you.
But we would rather have you here with us
Africa ya kutonda, kaizeli! ( Africa misses you, sister!)
Ku tezi batu - we are waiting for you ( We watch the horizon)
Utwa, ba andamisa - come dance with us. (And the drums are beating)
While distance separates you from us
we talk about you, smile, and say:
Mutu yo munde ki ya na ni sikoka kwa batu; (she will make many friends)
and we want you to remember always:
Ku sebeleza Mulimu, ki makalelo a butali. (it is more blessed to give than to receive)
Be blessed, dear sister!
We wish you peace, we wish you joy
and above all, we wish you love.
Juzi juzi tulikuwa tunakutana
Kwenye mishwari tulipitana
Hili na lile tuliambiana
Menzangu ukaenda majuu
Kufika kule ukajiona wewe mungu
Uliotuacha huku nyuma ukatufananisha na vyungu
Haya yote yalinifanya nihisi uchungu
Lakini usijali siku hadi siku Nitarudisha zangu nguvu.
Umerudi jana, kimya kimya unaogopa kurogwa
Waache kurogwa wenye mahela Urogwe wewe hombolela
Kwa maalim ulifika
Dua na ubani ukaoshwa
Macho ya watu yasije kukudhuru Maana wewe ni kama nuru Kilaupitapo mwanga unazidi kuwaka
Shoga hatukuwezi
Huko majuu itabidi tufike
Hata kama kukifika kama wezi.
Leo tumegongana
Excuse me ukanitamkia
Kiswahili umesahau
Barabara zina vumbi sana
Watu huwawezi
Uswazi umewazidi
Sana wamekuwa wakaaidi
Maneno wanayo ongea unaona kwako si sahihi Sana sana unawalinganisha na watu wa chini
?Kila ukimaliza kuamkia
Mkono wako unaosha na sabuni
Maradhi ya uswazi unayaogopa
Usije ukarudi ‘kwenu’ na magonjwa ya kuporomoka
Kwa majembe na mashoka
Unagamba kama mungu kakupa vyema ya kuokoka
Shoga umetisha
Huko majuu mwenzagu hatusemi
Leo kunisalimia unaona tabu
Mila za kwetu kwako unaona kavu
Kila usimamapo unahesabu hadi tatu
Asije mshenzi kukupora ukahisi moyo umekuwa mchafu Maana huku kwetu wezi kweli ni tabu
Shoga tangu umerudi kutoka ulaya, hatukuwezi
Nakupa miaka kama kumi
Umalize katabia kauhuni
Umalize ulaya kuwachuna
Uje huku tukucheke
Maendeleo uliokuwa unayataka yamekupiga teke Aibu unawakataza kwenu wasipayuke Kwakeli wewe mtoto wa kike
Kubali yakubalike
Nafsi yako ifanye impumzike
SPASIBA
Spasiba,
spasiba.
Kwa mwenyezi,
bila kipimo nakuenzi.
Spasiba,
spasiba.
Kwa mama ulileta duniani,
na kunilea.
Spasiba,
spasiba.
Kwa marafiki wa kikweli,
sio wahuni.
Spasiba,
spasiba.
Kwa wahusika wote wenye nia njema,
sio wenye sumu kwenye sindano.
Spasiba,
spasiba.
Kwa maadui washirikina na wenye fitina,
wasio na utu ila tu unafiki.
Garagazano hili,
hamwezi.
Spasiba,
spasiba.

"Niaje".
Masmile za confusion,
Fusion ya lust na trust,
Compilation ngori ju huoni mahali mnafikishana
Mbio za ujana huishia kitandani,
Au kwa cell ndani.
Makosa ni kukosa kuona future
Kwa mkono nikatattoo hour glass,
So that every morning nikiamka kwa bed yake najua ni turn ya another lass.
Same script,same characters.
Vijana ni wale wale.
Pangoni ni pale pale.
Set huchange na weatherman.
Ndio hata socks huwa ni question ya aftermath.
Virusi ama shopping list ya mapampers
But
Bands still made her dance.
She discovered the secret to it all nikunyamaza and smile like Mona Lisa,
Kutumbukiza vidole kwa maji ya uhai
Ndio ata kesho ukimwai, asubuhi bado dignity na ngwai ziko mkononi mwake.
Sala na ibada ikawa ni lazima
Ju hujui next time inakupatia wapi...kwa mama Bima ama kwa kina nonini.
Ndio Nani...saa ngapi...
Masharti tuliwachia kina baba na mama,
Tukipatana just make sure tunaheshimiana
Maneno ya fanya hivi,usifanye...ni hadithi ya wahenga.
Hakuna love.
Love nikujilove.
Love nikuamini ukipata ball na Jina yako si MRS
We ni single mother.
Kuishi na yeye ni kalongo ya baba na mama,
Lazima brikicho itachezwa usiku.
Machozi ni ile ile, barabara iko vile vile umeitengeneza ju ulikubali kuketi kwa meza na kunegotiate love.
Hakuna tafauti na geneza,6 feet under
Mchanga ikiongezwa.
Usiulize kwa nini mashonga ni wengi
Na kila Dame ni lesbian,
Wamatha na vitambi wanateka maboy,
Masponsor ndio lingo ya wababa
Harusi na watoto kageuka biashara.
Ntaplay along
Na delusion ya Prince charming na white horse.
Lakini deep down,
Hakuna love.

I was asleep
And in my dreams were visions
Visions of beauty grandeur
For there were
Angels
Interacting moving so invasively
Such wonders
A delight beautiful as prisms and lights and they were. . .
They was wonderful
They was wonderful
They were wonderful to behold
My God I sure enjoyed
They were marvelous to my eyes;
I can hardly wait to fly
And be forever with the Lord and God in eternity
God is marvelous to my eyes
Jesus is wonderful to behold
They was wonderful
They was wonderful
They are, the angels are . . .
They are wonderful
Abba Father, wonderful
Wonderful
Praise God
Amen
