We In Deep Trouble
I think we are in trouble
they are all in good spirits
something smells fishy to me

They smile and they tell you
they "will", fix it this time
give them your vote, and you'll see

Each one is claiming
they are without question
so far above all reproach

They wave their credentials
and...

EARLY MORNING IN THE COUNTRY

The smell of fresh brewed coffee
The sound of bacon slowly sizzling in the pan
And the heady aroma it creates
			Homemade biscuits in the oven
Sending the scent of their baking
Into the far corners of every room in the house
			A bottle of cane syrup...

Rooks At Dusk
In brooding dusk they gather from the East
Arrive in twos and threes upon the trees.
Autumn beeches, now devoid of leaves,
Begin to darken as the branches heave
And teem with animated rooks.

And jackdaws too, all jockeying for space,
Amid this vibrant, raucous, corvid mass,
Jostling, shifting, squabbling for pride...

Circadian
Blaring klaxons rouse the weary
Fumble for steaming mug of pain
Stiletto sunrise, eyes bleary
Sandman’s Valium starts to drain

Resplendent youth line up for inculcation
Foreheads kissed, lunchboxes brimming
Then practiced subroutines of remuneration
Contentious jockeying, sinking/swimming

A million convocations for stricken minds
Urgent catharsis, and perhaps, listening
Long awaited liaisons, pairs entwined
Pheromonal interweaving,...

BLACK AND BLUE FRIDAY

First – the carbo-loading
monster meal to sustain
the beast that drives
the cornerstone of greed
in mindless hunt for “bargains”.

Next – jockeying for position
awaiting the starter’s pistol
explosion of coupon bearers
storming the gates of ….greed
pursuing an empty, endless, need.

Feint right, fake left, bob and weave
position, position,...

Early Morning

I wish to capture in some way,
With words, the ineffable
Images, and sounds of quiet,
In a time without man sounds.

Early morning awakened by
The first glimmer of orange red
As it begins to rise phoenix like
Across the lake.

Incongruous images blended together,
deck railing covered with
 beach towels, swim...

Vying for order
This square
That corner
One's center

These squared-off life experiences
Know well jockeying for position
Is fraught with chance
Disappointment
Acceptance

The waking state knows

Nothing resolves naturally
No stitch in one's original design
Arrives at needle's focus point
Matching perfectly the original intent
Red threads
Clash with its attracted yellow
Black outs white

One's colors
Opting to make...

On Beginning To Compose a New Poem
On beginning to compose a new poem...

Assaying thoughts gambol,
scuffling as in an affray
née crushing, jockeying, stampeding...
demanding equal airplay
gushing as metaphorical think
spigot turned on full force airway
thru totally tubular cerebral

microcosmic aisleway
vesicular conduit fifty
plus shades of gray
exhaling sigh of relief, cuz
transcending writer's block
innovative talent with words
did once...

Premium Member Who Is Right
Everybody has a point of view to express…that’s one of the joys of being free.
But what happens in a country when two sides completely disagree?

We end up fighting a war of words with both sides jockeying for position.
We end up far from a united country...

What We Do To Win, Part I
I long have been a trail-runner,
and my name is Art Constantine,
sprinting peaks is a thigh-burner,
just as tiring as it seems,
I started this at seventeen.

Most people thought that I was nuts,
I suppose I can’t say they’re wrong,
but I am drawn by what is tough,
by challenges stressful...

Jockeying

Defining power.
