Best Jarvis Poems
I walked into Dad's study and looked around
A wooden bull with ivory tusks stood its ground
a German Bayonet lay before lines of books, and
On the wall was an olde map of the holy land
Behind a schooner with three proud masts,
Lay volumes of worlds, of futures and pasts—
Palestine before the Hebrews, a Rhodesia Guide
Three Deserts, by Jarvis, hard to lift, I tried.
The Golden Bough and The Struggle for Greece
The Revolt of the Masses, The Golden Fleece
The Lost Possessions of England, Leviathan
The Firmament of Time, and Darwin's Descent of Man
Stonehenge, The Heathens, The 30 years war
Each topic a window, each book a door
An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, then On Tyranny
The Wealth of Nations, Jewish Confederates, A Goodly Tree,
The Medieval Village, Capitalism and the Jews
Fred Bastiat, Thomas Sowell, Dad had free market views
Texts of Geography, that was his trade
Shelf by shelf, in a proud parade.
I can't put my finger on why, I feel a sad chord
For knowledge should be its own reward
On much of this knowledge the world turned the page—
His room remains—his shrine, his stage.
Coercive Persuasion, On Aggression — much more to the list,
And framed on the wall, the lives that persist:
There's how Mom used to be, full of interests, just like him
I step into those hard streets; the world starts to spin.
Prayer
Like hands that open the curtains apart
May your hands do the same with my heart
And allow light from you to fully flood in
That daytime may rule where night-time had been
I wish nothing to be hidden from your loving concern
There's no bad way in me you cannot discern
So, search through me oh God and cleanse me of sin
That your spirit may find a home deep within.
Let the thoughts of my mind be a pleasure to you
That in all of my ways I'll do as you do
And never more to let go of your hand
So that you can lead me to the promised land

Me Myself and Iphone
How’s the line can you hear me now
I’m getting bad reception
They say these gadgets make life easier
But maybe that’s self deception
I saw seven girls walking by the other day
You’d think out to enjoy the sun and the view
Six on their phones, one with nothing to say
Or perhaps just no one to say it to
No one was listening to the ones around them
The ones who were all within reach
What’s wrong with the world is they’re all too scared
To look up, to listen, to teach
You want to say, take a look where you’re going
Give them some friendly advice
But they’re all so engaged in their digital haze
They’re obsessed with their hand held device
You see them drive by with one hand on the wheel
They’re not even watching the road
Now the only acknowledgement they give to others
Is something they call ‘manner mode’
The phone was supposed to improve communication
To get friends and family reconnected
But now they’re all in self imposed isolation
Cut off by electronic walls they’ve erected
Each generation find’s it harder to cope
Less able to use what they’ve already got
The more man relies on his electronic tools
The machine in their heads is almost forgot
Camera, recorder, computer cell phone
These things are no match for your brain
Too much devotion to such circuit works
Would drive any person insane
It’s a superficial world that you just think is real
While the real one lies under you’re feet
It’s time to remember how to look, hear and feel
Before someone somewhere hits delete
Just try and recall how you first saw it all
Reach out to somebody nearby
They’ll never wake up until they get reconnected
To the great outlet who lives up on high

Road Rage
The sign on the road said stop and turn back
But the driver is listening to his own soundtrack
The noise in his head is messing up his thinking
As he looks at the truck ahead whose lights are blinking
He yells out the window ‘’Are you stupid or what’’
‘’Watch what you’re doing you ignorant clot’’
When he looks back at the road it’s already too late
With his foot to the floor, he meets his fate
I know for I was there on that same road
I was driving a truck with a heavy load
The truck in his way was driven by me
I kept hitting the breaks in the hope he would see
The bridge up ahead had collapsed you see
I did what I could as he sailed by me
He saw my warnings as a hindrance to ignore
Some people are like that when you knock on their door
Don’t worry how they drive, but how you do instead
Watch for the warning lights up ahead
For some roads go nowhere and you need to resist
Because those that seek to travel them will cease to exist

The 80's electronic band
The Human League
Came from Sheffield England
My home town
Phil Oakey
The lead singer
Had his hair short on one side
The over long hanging down.
He met the two girl singers
Who were dancing
In the crazy Daisy pub
He liked what he saw
and singed them up
To go on tour.
Such hits as 'Being boiled'
'Mirror man'
'Don't you want me''
And''The sound of the crowd'
Were played in many clubs and bars
Often loud.
He is one of the reasons I play synthesizers
Myself today
Now bald as a badger
His famous long locks gone
But he still writes
And can still sing a song.
Other local bands, Def leopard, Heaven 17, ABC ,Pulp, Artric monkeys,

Who’s To Blame?
Did you ever get the blame,
For a crime you didn’t commit?
Did you rant and rave,
Scream for justice
Or quietly submit?
Are you more a man than Adam
Who when found taking from the tree..
Acted like the little boy
Who shrieks ‘It wasn’t me!’
Knowing he was guilty,
He tried to shift the blame,
Forgetting his responsibility
In an effort to hide his shame.
Much like Saul who did the same
To his own men at Amalek
Not wanting accountability
He sought only to save his own neck.
Or are you more like Joseph
Who when falsely accused of rape
Waited silently in a prison cell
For Jehovah to provide escape
Do you resemble David,
Who when hounded by the King
Never sought to retaliate
But entrusted his God with everything.
Is your love enough that you
Can take the blame for others?
If not, then how is it you say
‘I’d give my life for my brothers!’
There was once a man
Who lived a life
Without a single error.
Such a man could acquire
For himself much power
And rule with a hand of terror.
But rather he chose
To serve the weak
Forsaking this world’s pleasure
Giving up that perfect life for us
With a love that knows no measure.
And when they nailed him
High upon the stake
It was no cause for sorrow
For he took the blame
From Adam’s sin
To the ones we’ll make tomorrow.
And as he died in agony
Did he shift the blame upon you?
No, but he said, “Father forgive them
For they don’t know what they do”

Growing Pains
The fearful child inside of you
Says that’s who you still are.
The wounds inflicted when we’re young
Can leave behind a scar.
You’ll never amount to anything,
You’re not worthy to be here
And so he puts his doubts in me
His anxiety, his fear
A self-fulfilling prophecy
That’s impossible to bear
And so some go along life’s road
Completely unaware
Others are told you can do as you will
Never mind what others feel
Just enjoy your life and take what you want
You can lie and cheat and steal
But you never seem to feel satisfied,
You know deep down it’s not true
It’s just because they didn’t sacrifice
And spend more time with you
So you spend your life trying to fill the gap
With never ending stuff
This vicious cycle of events
That’s never quite enough.
But when will you both
Get it in your head
Love others as yourself
The wise man said

Nothing New Under the Sun.(Satan’s little helpers)
There’s nothing new under the sun,
first came the sword then came the gun.
Gonna make me a spear, gonna build me a rocket,
every bullet they fire is money in my pocket.
I’ve had you fighting your neighbour, had you fighting your brother.
Had you fighting for ‘peace’ then fighting each other.
Communist, Terrorist, Pacifist and Liberalist
On the right on the left, whatever the label.
I’ve got all my horses rounded up in one stable.
The soldiers of Rome impaled their future king.
The soldiers of Hitler did much the same thing.
Oil is the earth’s blood, the prize they all seek,
But I trade it for your blood every day of the week.
It gives me a thrill to see that blood spill,
They’re Satan’s little helpers and they’re there for the kill.
You wanted it all, you reached for the moon.
But you want things in my world, you gotta dance to my tune.
I have to admit, it sends shivers down my spine,
When you salute that flag and I know that you’re mine.
There’s nothing new under the sun,
Been tellin the same lies since the earth first begun.
I’ll fill you full of facts, just one of my tricks,
You wouldn’t know the truth if it hit you like bricks.
When those witnesses come calling, trying to talk you some sense,
You’ll pay them no heed at your own expense.
I’m the winner now whether you live or die, as long as I have you believing the lie.
You can’t see the picture, and that’s how I like it.
By the time you learn history, you’re already part of it.
There’s nothing new under the sun, first came the sword then came the gun….

"Tanka you contest on summer nights"
Thank you mother,
you birthed me,
you nursed me,
you fed and clothed me.
You loved me,
when seems, the word had loathed me.
I'd not want that love in vain.
However this is not your day.
Thank you mother,
for your support,
and your optimistic sheen,
it's inspiring
and always has shaped the person whom I am.
But this is not your day.
It belongs to the greeting card companies.
Who've robbed another holiday.
Robbed it of all meaning,
all substance and heart.
Robbed it of it's very soul.
Deformed it,
corrupted it,
chewed it up and spat it,
till it's obscure meanings long forgot;
faded into history, a mother's not.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Dedicated to my mother, whom I love.
Also dedicated to Julia Ward Howe who invented a holiday meant to end war and poverty. And to
celebrate all families. Who died before her dream could ever be realized.
And...to Anne Jarvis who forced through the holiday, hoping to continue Howe's work and end war
and poverty and create a better world for all, only to see that dream shattered as Greeting Card
companies and greedy conglomerates perverted it's ideals to nothing more then lip service
dedicated to selling cards and candy.
To celebrate some mother's publicly, while other's have their health care raised and their social
security stolen. While single mothers have to risk their health and their lives to barely feed their
children.
This holiday is an abomination. It doesn't celebrate motherhood, it degrades it. Women don't need
to be celebrated nearly as much as they need a good world in which they can better raise their
children. A world in which they can feed their children. This holiday is a Mother's Not and so is this
world.
There was a time in my life
when I was lonely and broken
I would sing many a song
but It was His words unspoken.
One glance.
A meeting of Chance.
The wounds were all healed.
but scars still reviled .
Was it an inchanted spell
love was not just a fairy tale,
But it is more precious than Gold.
A precious treasure to behold.
I began to view the world as a new born child
seeing things through eyes of love so mild
Compassion for my fellow man
became important once again.
Both He and I were alone
and thought that all love had gone.
but God smiled on us and allowed us to reach that everlasting love that we'd dreamed about.
just in time..
The right time contest
By Treasa Jarvis
dedicated to Joel Jarvis my Love..
When I was born I was given four grandparents but there is another kind,
There are people that God brings into our life that are unique and rare:
I know you had seven children but you make many feel like number eight in mind,
For your warmth to all is shown by the many acts of goodness that you share.
I think of the ways in which you came to salvation in Jesus who is best,
The years that you gave to freedom for our country as a medic in the war:
Our Lord revealing His Word (1Tim.2:5) to you and the priest you did test,
The long isle you walked at Jarvis Street (Baptist Church) which many are
thankful for.
In this life you have had many struggles but have always “bounced” back,
From strokes to folks and many other “outer and inner” pain:
During all these ultimately spiritual challenges Jehovah-Jireh has been there in
the attack,
Waiting to shove it all in the devil’s face that no matter what he did there was no
gain.
At this time Grampa I say unto you Shalom (peace) be still,
Many are praying for you and in this you have been an example to us all:
For we know all things work together for “good” according to His will,
And with much intercessory through Holy Spirit power you cannot fall!!!
Grampa we are lookin’ for the Blessed Hope and the soon coming Rapture,
Souls are in danger and many still need to know that there is a hell to be shun:
Cause bondage runs deep and many are under satan’s power and capture,
For no man knows the day nor the hour in which He will come.
To Grampa with love from one of your many proud “grand-children”
Remember these words for with them have you comforted us all!!! (Mat.11:25-30)

Living Here in the Country
is a laid back kind of way
I like to sit under the old oak tree
and write my cares away
I listen to the cheerful sounds
that nature offers here
I am reminded of simpler times
when I didn't have a fear
Summer breezes blowing
inspires me to write a song
ignites a fire inside of me
gives me strength to carry on.
When I am feeling overwhelmed
dont have to look for me
just across the meadow
I'll be sitting at the old oak tree.
I fell in love with a boy named John
He broke the branches of my heart
It was that painful, but life must go on
I dust myself and head for a fresh start
I fell in love with a boy named Jarvis
He broke the branches of my heart
Mama told me there would be days like this
So I dust myself and head for a fresh start
I again fell in love with a boy named Frank
Hmm! I parted with a broken heart
He left the pages of my life blank
And said, “Young lady you can now depart”
I'm thinking of taking my final bow
I want to move on and take a big stride
Yet, am feeling very depressed now
This depression has eaten all of my pride
Every day, I hear people talk about love
I see people in love and wonder “why can’t I?”
I see people like me express their love
And I wonder and ask “why can’t I?”
Friends mock and laugh at me
So I put myself in a very little box
Where I can be alone and be free
To me this is a yoke, because I feel like a fox
I'm thinking of someone who has my best interest in mind
His unswerving love echoes through my heart
His love is kind not selfish, greedy and blind
Thank you Jesus for repairing the broken branches of my heart
