Best Jars Poems
JarsWe took mason jars
and poked small holes in their lids;
then went out into
those long hot summer nights as
childhood flickered around us.
We couldn’t hold youth
any more than we could keep
caught fireflies alive,
and our once bright lights are now
dimming in the jar of life.

The Giant's Dream JarsIn the centre of the silence, a giant fills the space
He carries but a trumpet and a battered old suitcase
I watched with baited breath, the street was dimly lit
He puts the case upon the ground but holds on to his trumpet
His monumental hands unscrew a...

Jars Filled With BrainsThe cryogenic lab held many a jar
And Walt Disney’s brain I could see from afar
Perpetually frozen to see a new age
With some I tried conversation to engage
But the brains had no mouths with which to speak
No ears either to hear me give a shriek
The site...

Flawed Jars of Claya double tetractys and couplets
When treasure is found in jars of clay
it's proof that worth
comes from God,
not from
us.
My
noble
acts are mere
crushing defeats
when I forget God commands light to shine.
Recalling a time I took a tumble
trying to create my boardwalk divine.
Forfeiting fam'ly, blazing my own way,
I...

Glass JarsThe last
taste of summer
was
tucked
in
my pockets
empty
mason jars
with
the
scent
of butterflies
had
lids
with
lingering
raspberry
labels
spelling
will-not-go-down-sun
ran
with
sandals
and
band-aids
to
the
end
of
a childhood.

Treasures In Jars of Clay - 2 Corinthians 4: 9-11God’s children live within the brink
where death can be so very near
it’s a tightrope flickering on life’s edge
but constantly lifted up by God so dear
For we indeed in Christ crucified
standing within His body of death
so His life is manifested in our own
living or dying even...

Fireflies In Glass JarsRemember going to grandpa and grandma's house by the lake
All the fond memories there we did make
And I think the fondest by far
Was catching fireflies in a jar
We would chase their light in the tall grass
Trying to catch them in...

You Trap Us Inside Your JarsAfter several weeks of caresses
You seduce me to lock my soul inside a jar
I’m glad and sad I’m not the only one
Glad that I’m not the only stupid
Sad that women make mistakes repeated
You classify us by our characteristics
Treat us emotionally sadistic
You make us feel pathetic
You...

Glass JarsHave you ever seen your organs on display?
it's quite... mesmerizing
a.... disturbed euphoria if you will
The first item that I gazed upon
was my heart, it's beat
ever flowing in a rapid succession
of strings and multiple palpitations
I smashed the displayed counter
and with my left hand...

Empty JarsEmpty things-
Empty rooms-filled with things-
Empty vases-empty jars
Empty seats-
Cupboards that are bare-
Corridors-in my mind-
Long and narrow-alone I stare-
Vacant land -
You once – were there!

Twenty Pints of SunshineTwenty Pints of Sunshine
David J Walker
It seemed to be the only thing
In abundance on the farm
The light and heat
The shine so bright
Long days
short nights
And work doled out in the mornings
Today we will bottle in bell jars
20 pints of sunshine
And call it canning
A...

Time Stands Still
The Faded Garden Swing
If the flaked paint on the old swing
could speak, it would tell stories of
days long ago,
Of children's laughter and their bare,
muddy feet,
Of fireflies caught and imprisoned in
empty jam jars,
Like the fireflies, my memory flickers,
trying to...

The Best IntentionsSnapping beans, the summer pastime
Filling Mason jars
With cornfield or half runners
Filling a crock with layers
Of beans and corn, canning salt
For pickled beans and corn
That would make my mouth water
Peeling ripe red tomatoes
That I called maters
Cutting them in wedges
Placing them in Mason jars
Adding a touch of...
