Best Ivers Poems
Freedom of thought and expression could lead one astray.
Always there exists the temptation to tread on dangerous ground.
Ingrained ideas and habits become lax.
Therefore, ever careful one must be.
Happiness cannot be found only in material things.
Interpretation of facts has to be honest.
Sincerity must guide every step made in life.
Away from temptation the path should lead.
Prophets of deceit abound and doubt is sown.
Only those who possess strength of spirit will survive.
Watchful eyes will avert dangers, snares and pitfalls.
Easy it is to fall prey to false beauty and bright allure.
Rivers attract, but the currents can be strong, overpowering.
Fulfilment depends on knowledge.
Ultimately, it is trust and confidence that lead to spiritual growth.
Love of the Almighty provides enlightenment.
That is why a strong will and courage are needed.
He who perseveres builds a personal understanding with God.
It is through grace and obedience that faith flourishes.
Never is faith a step in the dark for it leads to the light.
God is forever available to all those who believe.

1. "I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it..." E.E. Cummings
You gave to me your heart when we were young.
On stars we danced, and on the moon we swung.
Unfailingly your heart beat just for me.
Rhapsody’s composers of romance were we.
Honey of your sweet lips. . . I taste it still.
Eventide consumes me with thoughts of you.
As shadows slink in and sun slides behind the hill,
Rivers of memories flood me through and through.
Tears fall. I have loved your heart, and I always will.

Ardently, she sweeps away weary winter,
Preening her plumage, the year's infant peacock;
Rivers swell and rise, heavy life breasts.
Incandescent, she fires earth's darkness, sparking spring's fuse,
Liberating ice-encapsulated souls, warmth starved.

Oak trees, dark or sunny sky,
Neighbors waving, passing by,
Music of the buzzing bees,
Young ones playing as they please,
Varied colors seasons bring,
Ecstasy of birds that sing,
Roaming strays, both dogs and cats,
Active squirrels, dancing gnats,
Nature’s grand, diverse array,
Divers sights and sounds each day--
All God’s glory on display!

Flowing from sad eyes, weeping while mourning
Rivers of tears caused by words of lewd scorning
Angry insults inflict wounds too painful to abide
Garnering grief that no gentle person could hide
Imagine the suffering vile contentions can start
Lamentable lacerations that pierce a fragile heart
Emotional bruises often tear relationships apart
How can sensitive people protect themselves?
Encourage them to look within, where valor delves
Allow no bitter words to be the cause of misgiving
Restraint of an evil tongue would need no forgiving
Take these admonishing phrases into consideration
Safeguard fragile hearts with benevolent veneration

Painting by the Florida Highwaymen
Take me home to where joy resides. I am most thankfuL
Here. My gifts bestowed by God are strewn like confettI
Around me! The salty breeze is like a warm blankeT
Nurturing my soul as silver stars are draped each NighT.
Kaleidoscopes of color reflected on each sea swelL
Shimmer and splash as a summer moon pulls the tidE.
Feathers of burrowing owls quietly grace my sighT
On my walks as a Royal Poinciana blooms regally near my patH.
Rivers flow like freedom to the sea and tall grass sways. I
Take a moment to watch my children play, and I soar IN
Highest praise to the Creator. He has given me an awakeninG
Enveloped in life, love and His glorious grace for all my dayS.

Winter’s snow softly falls, flurries
invite me to a magic kingdom -
naïve of bitterness. Cold and warmth
tethered together - in lover’s arms, in hats and coats,
ethereal frozen hands over a chestnut fire.
Rivers made with planks of ice - bridges to a
macrocosm ecstasy of skating, sledding and more - all
against a backdrop of ancient oaks, maples and pines -
glazed with vanilla icing. Gilded Rooftops trill peppermint*
icicles. We snap them off and lick, like lollipops. Rosy-cheeked
children melt, in this serendipitous, wonderland of snow.

Languishing within seed was a gigantic tree,
interned through genetic code by the almighty,
furtive, stay buried, to withstand time’s vagary,
ever can human tasks equal this mystery?
streams of ants, leaf flags, will not pause till job done!
Moon shines bright and white, travels over dark night sky,
year recounts seasons, as earth spins around the Sun,
streaks of lights like meteors, stop! admire! firefly!
tiny pollens make fruits, invite bees with nectar!
eggs with flimsy shells! but withstand a heavy storm!
rivers hold million lives, flowing miles, mountains far,
innumerable are these wonders out us to charm!
each of us like specks of dust in this universe,
souls unseen tied to God, creation so diverse!

Feeble souls can make poor decisions without thinking
Regretting life altering choices without even blinking
About the time winter came she grew delicate and frail
Growing farther away and ending up in internal jail
Insubstantial hearts can break with such strong ease
Love couldn’t save her then she died out in the freeze
Even the decrepit are blind to life’s gentle fragility
Her thinking she was careful with her morbidity
Ethereal love for herself broke her linked chains
And even in the end my constant self-pity remains
Rivers of vulnerability flows deep within my soul
Tenderly and quietly she died with an endless hole
Suicide is for the fragile hearts that have taken a toll

Girl with those melancholy eyes
Captive now a hundred years or more
Glancing, challenging we who pass by
Gentle child, artless of a nations war
Moments of calm in your Sabbath clothes
yet no smile from a child of our land
Against your will an image chose
composed then by photographers hand
Mary Ivers a woman standing so still
Just a child under the gaze of all
Not yet revealing the face of steadfasts will
But awaiting battle scream and call
Then to shiver on Mountjoys floor
And from her cell, that wretched place
Her crimes of passion already sworn
She will not cower or hide her face
