Best Humidity Poems
HOWLING OF HUMIDITY
No wind blows.
The sweat of a dandelion,
No seeds sold
To the gardener there.
No planting of pretty peacocks.
Umbrella wide above the sun,
Puddles gather but don’t sink
To the humid earth,
Dusty red and brown.
Flooded with handheld fans,
Flowers alive on origami paper,
Promises of windswept dreams
Of a lazy Southern sea and ice tea.

outside, it was raining
as it was inside
drinks spilling onto the floor
from incessantly topped-up glasses held by
forgetting, gesticulating hands
spittle flying from mouths attached to people
in love with their own voices
their little huddled audiences salivating
over every word or the prospect
of taking their turn as court-holder
the room drooling with
go-to anecdotes and jokes
rehearsed at a hundred parties like this one
disgorged from speech bubbles like fat storm clouds
filling dead air with stories on life support
sudden thunderclaps of laughter
precipitating further precipitation
the floor must have been wet but thankfully
not gleaming like the pavement twelve floors down
the rain let up outside
I slipped out onto the balcony
and between sips of my stale beer
gulped the laundered air

“All dressed to kill; please don’t let it rain!”
Hours spent with flat iron
Straightening out the curls
Here comes sneaky humidity to undo this “do”

Breathing thick heat in,
watching the fan spin above--
hating humidity.

Humidity’s validity
Is limited to plants
‘Cause people would avoid it
If they only had the chance.
For mugginess, like bugginess,
Does nothing but annoy.
It’s not the type of weather
That I ever could enjoy.
The ickiness of stickiness
Just brings me to my knees.
I’m sure I’m not the only one
Who’d much prefer to freeze!

Magical, musical raindrops skydive through the atmosphere.
The clouds may growl and grumble, but you just keep dancing.
Earth’s flowers drink you, with a passionate thirst;
You bring sweet life.

louisiana humidity chokes you. it takes a hold
of your lungs and squeezes tight. my parents
didn’t consider this when they moved into our
home of Bones and Skin. I dread the moments of my red
flushed face and beating heart from a moment outside.
the south has not been kind to those of us who
don’t evolve to Breathe around the Heat. it walks over
us, beats us. kills us. and then declares our broken and
butchered lungs a Testimony to its Strength. i
wonder if it is actually revealing its Cowardice.
louisiana humidity does not get lighter with the
winter months. there is no reprieve from the overbearing
moisture. it seeps into my pores at night, even as our ac
bill robs us dry. my mouth is Open. Open. please, God,
it is open. words pour out of which i don’t recognize.
uniformity is valued here. where boys wear collared
shirts, and men wear Pointed Hoods. girls sew their skirts
and women sew their sins. there has never been,
and there will never be, overlap. the humidity will take
care of that if the burning crosses haven’t already.
i try not to Love things here. they Melt. my affections are
too warm, and the heat grows jealous. ripping smooth
skin and pink lips out of my Fingertips. instead, i watch
the wax figurines from a distance as they fight against
their dripping bodies. i try not to miss them.
louisiana humidity grows on a person. i no longer
fear the Noon Sun. my toes gladly curl in the green grass.
the south has the most gorgeous grass. i fear those who watch
from shadowed windows, their cold eyes grazing my skin. my
face flushes red again, but now accompanied with boiling blood.
enjoy the heat. enjoy God’s sun. why will they not
come outside. the humidity Comforts, what is to fear?

HUMIDITY DROPS
sunshine-rain and chivalrous clouds
a summer of droughtless drops
i’m chilly under the humidless fan
a season of happy thoughts

Verse
Foreigners in our humid country pray*
To smite heat with triumphant icy tray
Savoring popsicle sticks
Midst constant cold water-licks
As they are fired-up by bright Summer ray.
*Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

The beauty of the rain when those crystal drops fall on us, is what this poem is all about.
The droplets fall on me now,
As pure as a plain crystal- Even I do not know how,
They fall on my body,
I wish I was called worthy of it-By somebody.
I feel glad and blessed,
When those crystals on my body-Gets pressed,
I feel relived and chaste,
Forgetting my gender, religion and caste.
They fall on me one after the other,
And are waiting to fall on me,
When they clash across each other,
I could feel from this worldly stress- Fully Free!
