Mr Brown Baby

Mr. Brown Baby
By Valerie Odom

Mr. Brown Baby
You either knows too little or too much
The white man still gonna beat you on the daily

While you're still accused of raping that young lady
Everywhere you goes their purses they try to clutch
Mr. Brown Baby

They call you dumb because you was born at Grady
They call you dumb because you was miseducated and such
The white man still gonna beat you on the daily

It was a sad time for the 80’s
Everywhere the blackman went he was beat but the whiteman was untouched
Mr. Brown Baby

Can’t even go and drive a mercedes
Without you being reported and put in jail and such
The white man still gonna beat him on the daily

Why do they hate you Mr. Brown Baby?
He’s the blackest of the bunch
Mr. Brown Baby
The white man still gonna beat him on the daily

Mary Grady

The graveyard still stood in the glade by the woods,
casting shadows against the tall pines.
Last words on a stone, standing off all alone,
in a tangle of branches and vines.

“Here lies Mary Grady, not much of a lady,
cut down in her bed as she dreamed.
By a lover who scorned her, when once he adored her,
from a knife to her throat did she bleed.”

Through dark woods he walked, a young woman he stalked,
as she strolled midst the graves unaware.
His heart cruel and depraved for the murder he craved,
he smiled as she knelt down in prayer.

On the grave set apart, hand over her heart,
she wailed in lament on the stone.
At this moment the man, with a knife in his hand,
took control while she knelt all alone.

Her heart leapt in her chest as his knife slashed her breast,
her blood seeping deep ‘neath the stone.
Deep into the space Mary Grady was placed,
and she died with a sigh and a moan.

Deep within, under her, Mary did stir,
to an innocent’s blood, she did rise.
She sought to avenge, crying out for revenge,
and the murderer shrieked his surprise.

Opalescent and dark, she approached the black heart,
her eyes brimming bright with disdain.
Then she chuckled with glee as the man tried to flee,
thinking that he’d gone mad or insane.

As her spirit came near, his heart pounding with fear,
she grabbed him, her ghostly rage fierce.
“Now it’s YOUR turn.” she said, ripping hair from his head,
and his heart, with her hand, she did pierce.

Mary looked down at the man on the ground,
satisfaction at what she had done.
Now her spirit could rest, his heart ripped from his chest,
conquering evil, she’d won.

Premium Member Without Your Love

Without Your Love

Without your love, my life
I feign would ebb away.
Without you love, that
kindled flame of passion’s fire,
would turn to ashes cold and gray.

Without your love, my heart
grows cold, my feelings dead.
Without your love, those moments
when we chance to meet,
would change from happiness to dread.

Without your love
these eyes these lips so lonely pout.
Without your love to free my
lonely spirit from it’s hideaway.
To ride kindred spirit, seeking it’s way out.

Patrick Ferguson and the battle of Kings Mountain

He rode up to the mountain in great haste
planning vile acts, and much wonton waste.
Hiding, the whigs taunting, scattered about.
They were in waiting, the mountain through out.

Brave volunteers were on the docket.
John, the father of Davey Crocket
Ready to give his life, so long ago
just as his son Davy at the Alamo.

Ferguson sat on his steed, the pampas ass.
That’s about the worst thing I can say’
without being completely crass.
Little did he know this was his last day.

A small conference upon their steeds underway.
While shots periodically rang among the fray.
Then Ferguson’s second Lieut. spying a whig
trained his pistol...following that dirty “pig”

But God took a stand on the mountain that day
He ended the conflict in his own absolute way.
The lieut’s hand and his gun with certain disdain,
trailing the whig, fired into the general’s brain.

Premium Member Grady Lost His Lady

There's an Irish lad named Grady
Who confessed love for his lady
Sadly, she blew him off
With a snub and a scoff
For thinking his motives shady

Grady's heart was torn asunder
She stole it like thieves steal plunder
He threw a gauntlet glove
Waging war against love
Claiming romance was his blunder

He changed his mind when he met Vie
So he gave love another try
But she ran off with Stan
Then left that man for Dan
Grady had been just one more guy

Months later, Grady was smitten
When he fell in love with Kitten
All he could do was stare
At her blue eyes, so fair
By that feline he'd been bitten

Pictures In My Mind

Pictures in My MInd
My granddaughter sits tall in the saddle
on a white horse she calls Shadow
My grandson struggles to ride his bike
the first time with out trainers
Three year old James flies by on his skooter
saying watch maw maw what I can do
These are pictures in my mind.
Their mom watches proudly as her children grow
Blonde haired just like his mom Grady James
looks just like she did at age two
Now she is all a glow pregnant with her second
My hubby and I sit in our rockers on the deck
watching the grandchildren play
One chasing a paper airplane, one catching a
ball the other dancing with a hoola hoop.
More beautiful pictures in my mind.
A redbird sits on a fence post a worm dangling
from his beak
I see a yellow and black butterfly trying to
land on a bush in the wind
These pictures i hold dear in my mind for you
see blindness has taken my eyes
These are the picutures only in my mind. As they
grow through the years they will always look this
way to me happy and carefree and proud in my mind.

Premium Member Fighting Chilblains

Come now, you days so dreary,
with thoughts mundane and weary.
Both windy rain and bitter cold,
find comfort in blains and days of old.

To sit and sigh and wonder why
this if and when the eyes are dry
and the coals no longer lit are pale
in the wake of stormy frozen gale.

Until the frost is no longer on the glass
neither inside, outside in stormy blast.
And the Spring thaw comes in strident strain
to greet us with warmth and smiles again.

It lays a comfort blanket on us in haste as
we smile inside ourselves...what a waste!!!
While sitting we muse upon our fate....
Glad it rests not in the hands of a potentate

The Cause

The cause is come...
To live or die
not for those who
sit and wonder why

It’s one for all, and
all for some, or none
for those who sit and cry.

Hang tough!
get off that lazy duff.
It takes more
than off the cuff.

They say,” put your
money with your mouth.”
It matters not if born
in the North or South

It’s one for all, and none
for some, who sit and cry.
Don’t even sit and wonder why.
Just, get off that lazy duff.

Get real, no one wants
anything off the cuff.

That steady grind
doing those things left behind.
To keep from being called
a useless, moronic blunder bus.

The Doldrums of 2020

Hullabaloo, nothing to do.
the doldrums latch on to you.
Rickity dink, slippery slimy slue.

We scheme, we plot, we fold and cry a lot ! ! ! !
We fan, we plan, exhausted, but not an also ran,
We heap accolades upon tarnished shards of hope.
Yet find our very best advice lies in
a good hot bath and plenty of soap.

And when night is nearly nigh,
He, gathers you and I Into a Paradise
where none will ever die. To sing the songs
of Isaac and of Abraham ! ! ! !
To polish halo’s all day long, because we can.

Trying to achieve the heart of a simple man
Failing to fall short the simple gist of it to
reward ourselves with a marmalade biscuit.
And in the end we sit and pray.....And though
no one can directly look Him in the eye,
We adulate the King, the He, the most high !

Thank you again God to give me just one
more rhyme before I die. I’m not worthy I know
But at least I take the time to honestly try.
Charles Grady Henderson, On the rampage again after a short Sabbatical cutting my crop of Florida betony, and repotting my Japanese Maples for the first time in over ten years. Along with a whole slew of Iris and day lilies which have multiplicity syndrome. I have run out of dirt, so now have a fair sized hole in my back yard to fill in, along with that horrible wet spot oozing up from the septic tank drain. Man my life has got to get better. And it will “The Lord willing and the creek don’t rise” ! !
